  • In this episode I'm un-wrapping and trying on some new chrome, and starting the lengthy process of stripping the car for dipping. Also discussing the final finish and look of the car.

Your videos will nicely tell the story of what this car has been through. Don't need to leave it un-restored for that. Put a great paint job on this Jag and you will not regret it. Keep going and good luck.

I just found your channel and in particular this vehicle restoration. I did a minor restoration on a Mk1 (2.4 litre) in the late 70's. It was a functioning car when I purchased it, but it had some issues with rust in the sills and door bottoms. Also had some problems with the steering. I was very naive and it took me ages. Fortunately there was a Jaguar dealership in Wellington NZ which was very helpful in renting out tools for the steering system wedges and other things. Swapped bad doors for good ones and eventually got it "fixed up" repaired metal work, undersealed and repainted from white (just looked like this one). Had to put new tyres on etc because it had sat on the old ones for too long and they had become "square".
Eventually got the exterior into condition for painting and decided on a blackbird blue, which was a mostly black colour with a slight iridescence of deep blue. The interior was all original red leather, and the wood work came up a treat.
What a lovely car to drive. I took it up to 130mph once only and it was like driving on silk. It was a manual with overdrive. I wish you all the best with your project and look forward to future episodes.
    Wish I'd kept it now!
    Cheers from New Zealand.

I'd have to say; go for the repaint. Would you want to keep the original colour or change it? And if so, what would you change it to?

Nice. Dip and paint! The rat look is a fashion that will look daft in 12 months.

Leave the rat look for the ratters! Jags should never be left in the rat look. Dip and full paint job for me........but what colour?

The trade don’t dip body shells it’s been said that the stuff that they use gets in to seams of the cars as that’s the way they where built back in the day and and don’t come out
And toys the car from inside out
