Christmas Tree Fire Turns Devastating and Deadly Within Seconds

  • A live Christmas tree burn shows just how quickly a dried-out Christmas tree burns, with flashover occurring in less than one minute, as compared to a well-watered tree, which burns at a much slower rate. Take care to water your tree, so that it doesn’t become a fire hazard.
    This live burn was conducted by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

      I dunno, I'd sorta imagine that an organisation called the "National Fire Protection Association" knows how to protect themselves from fire and has things prepared to either protect themselves or escape from it, should the worst happen, but I guess that's just ludicrous to imagine, huh?

      My mate (a fire fighter) and his colleagues sit in an old shipping container with a branch ready and primed, and watch as the flames go above their heads, apparently it's mesmerising to see. It's part of their training, they do a lot of drills to keep them refreshed on different scenarios, that still is one of his favourites to do, as well as smoke room training.

    • @CATSWITHKYLA
      @CATSWITHKYLA 3 роки тому +6

      @Gabby Rae this was not a real house and was a video to show the public how fast a dried out Christmas tree can catch on fire within seconds and destroy everything... so nobody was in danger here

    Wow, that is genuinely terrifying... less than 50 seconds and it's completely out of control. I'd say just 10 seconds that it was out of control. Back when we used real Christmas trees, we always used this basin contraption. Four screws on each side of the entrance, and a reservoir for water. I don't think we watered it daily, but I don't recall the reservoir ever being empty when it came time to take the tree out. I think we shut off the lights on the tree every night as well, as an added safety precaution. Also grew up in a house primarily heated by firewood, so when we were done with the tree, it'd have the branches cut/broken off outside, then cut into junks with a chainsaw. I think we had one electric heater though, and for some reason, it was in my room, but we never really used it.
    Old man would get up every morning and get the fireplace going, it'd stay burning all day, and of course at night would burn itself out, so the mornings were pretty damn frigged until the fire got going. I must say though, the warmth from a wood stove feels SO much better than artificial electric warmth, as weird (and possibly hipster) as that sounds. Somehow it just feels different; more cozy, more comfortable, and more relaxing. Got a wood stove in the shed, haven't used it in over a year, probably won't use it over the Winter, but the natural warmth of a real fire is just so nice... provided it's contained in a safe fireplace and not raging wildly in the livingroom... that would put a bit of a damper on the cozy and relaxing feeling of being warmed by a fire...

    The difference between a dry and watered tree in terms of flammability, is quite significant. Lol my 97 yr old grandfather was born on the family farm in a then rual area in 1924, recalls his parents placing real candles on the tree, as i began to laugh at him as a young boy that knew the dangers, he recalls the family would choose and cut the tree the day before xmax eve, and they removed the tree from the house the day after Christmas, ensuring it never had a chance to dry out, and they only lit the candles long enough for the children to open gifts, even then his father had a large tub of water at hand. As they did not have electricity till the late 1930s or early 1940s when he was in high school. Grandfather would never advise anyone use candles on a tree today, but despite the dangers the family never had a Christmas tree fire

      It’s all a big lie. This only happens when people Avery careless. I mean there is a hot lamp right next to it. Who does that??? Very careless people that’s who.

    I remember back in communist Eastern Europe, we would actually place a dozen of small wax candles on the tree using small clips, and light them up at Christmas. Also, there was no stand holding water available, only normal stands. Everyone was doing the same in the block apartment. Fires were rare, but I guess when it happened it was ugly. In the video, you can be sure that by 0:20, anyone in the room would have been toasted from extreme radiant heat, even if lying on the floor. This fire is merciless, the second it starts, RUN, it's already too late to do anything. It's actually the radiant heat that ignites instantly the furniture.

    My sister lost 4 children in a house fire. A tree was the cause. Her husband tried to save them but it was too late.
