      You must be unaware that Martin Brundle (an institution of F1, I should say), Jenson Button, Nico Rosberg, Karun Chandhok and Anthony Davidson all have real knowledge and racing background. Ted Kravitz isn't a racer but nearly 30 years of F1 journalism at the track brings you a lot.
      But, of course, the other commentators/pundits don't have that and the rosters vary a lot from week to week, certainly the "average real knowledge" is lower than just having EJ/DC, obviously.
      I'd say your problem with Sky F1 is that the type of communication is just different, more rounded, more politically correct (except for Rosberg maybe), it's much more directed to a broader audience, i.e., the overall Sky costumer and not for fierce F1 fans that would listen to this amazing podcast!

      Then Lando has to go them. He stuck with a crap mclaren car with the promise they back him and help deliver him a world championship in the future. If they're taking part of their backing and sharing it equally with his team mate then this just harms his world championship chances. Having 2 number 1 drivers ONLY works if your team is totally dominant with no other team on your heals. This is not how it currently is, so back Lando now while you have the chance. They could be 3rd or 4th best team next year. If so Landos gone I'm afraid.

      It's simple:
      1. If you have competition from any other team, you back your leading driver.
      2. If you are dominant above all other teams and nobody can touch you then let the teammates race.
      The reality is we are in a number 1 situation currently.
      Does this not make sense to anybody. It just seems so obvious.
      The way mclaren are acting now may sound all fair and moral but to me this is simply actively working against your own chances to win a drivers title. Its madness. Utter madness you have an f1 team almost annoyed one of their drivers may win a championship. Like keeping harmony between driver managers is more important. Bizarre. There was once a time an f1 team would do ANYTHING for a championship.

The telemetry shows Lando was by far the fastest driver over the entire race, all stints. Yes he pitted first so a few seconds advantage, but he pulled away from Oscar on track by more than that anyway...far more...miles ahead! Lando should not have let him by. Using your logic if Oscar is a world championship driver he should have caught up with him team mate and passed on track. The most dodgy win...pathetic. Lando was on pole, fastest driver, on track to be world championship winner, but the team and Oscar threw points away simply because of a poor Pitstop call from Oscars side, which has nothing to do with Lando.

      @@exert2020 seems like you haven't used critical analysis much yourself. The reason I made my comment is that Lando has had opportunities throughout the years where he could've gotten a win. But he didn't. Simply because of the mistakes HE made. Not because of the car or the strategy. Oscar is far more level headed than Lando and by next year he will either be on par or surpass Lando in terms of racecraft too. But imo, he already has.

    • @exert2020
      @exert2020 9 днів тому +2

      @@flamingburritto But Lando has raced many more races, in a car which hasn't ever been dominant until mid way through last season. So of course he's made mistakes in 5 or so years in the sport. I must add, hardly any, if any massive or embarrassing mistakes. He's had a slight poor start here, a little rear slide there. Mostly it has actually been strategy that's cost him good results or a car which doesn't perform. They had issues with extreme tyre wear for a while so he had things like that to battle with.
      Can't remember the channel but someone did a video in last few days analysing all races since Miami to see what opportunities were truly lost by Lando vs the Team. It found most were caused by the team or the car simply wasn't as dominant as people imagined.
      You have to be honest, it was only in the last race where we saw Oscar genuinely drive on par in terms of overall pace as Lando. That's great. I'm not hating on Oscar at all. I think he's doing great. But you lot always treat these things like console wars or MC vs DC. 'You have to pick only one!!'. Fact is they're both doing well in a fairly fast, easy to drive car. That's it. You act like Oscar is some super hero for keeping up with Lando and that Landos totally failing unless he's able to push the car far beyond what it can do. End of the day both drivers are doing great. They're not in an absolutely dominant car yet so 1-2s can't be taken for granted.
      As for Oscar being better than Lando in the future...maybe? Who knows. You seem to be basing this on flimsy stuff. Like Oscar didn't have a bad start 2 races ago. Forgetting he had horrible tyre management until recently. He made mistakes all over the place, dipping into the gravel a few times. Then got handed a win when the telemetry tells us Lando was by far the fastest car over the entire race...absolutely dominated him...and he wasnt that far ahead simply from pitting first btw.
      I can analyse fine. You seem to want to be a fortune teller for some reason. Notice I don't do that.

    With McLaren allowing their drivers to race and battle each other, my mind goes straight back to the 2007 Driver's World Championship.
    The driver who stands to gain the most from McLaren letting their drivers fight each other is Max Verstappen!
    Piastri's overtake into the 2nd chicane was greatly added by Norris slamming on his brakes, rather than slamming into the side of Piastri's car - And because Norris had to slam his brakes on, he also lost out to eventual race winner Charles Leclerc.
    Would David Coulthard be raving about Piastri's overtake on Norris if the two teammates had collided and damaged their car? - Of course not, he'd be declaring it to be a stupid overtake that cost the team dearly.
    Piastri's overtake on his teammate possibly played a big part in McLaren losing the race!
    Had he not overtaken Norris, allowing Leclerc to pass Norris as well, but instead, sat behind Norris holding up the pack on lap 1, giving Norris a chance to pull away, chances are McLaren would have won the Italian Grand Prix (and possibly got a 1~2 for the team)
    As I said at the start of this post, for McLaren it's 2007 all over again.
    Max Verstappen must be looking forward to winning the WDC again this year - Just as Kimi Raikkonen enjoyed it in 2007! 😄

    Lando has, after six years, hit his talent ceiling. Yes, he’s fast, but Oscar is where the future of McLaren is. He is clearly improving all the time and his tyre management in the last couple of races wasn’t an issue and arguably better than Lando (despite what the British fans and commentators say). McLaren need to do what Red Bull did with DannyRic - who was beating Max when they were together - but they banked on the future WDC in the team. It may sound unfair, but if they had brains that’s what they’d do. To be arguably barely ahead of a driver with 1.5 years of experience says it all.
    Oscar’s overtake was the second best this season - only topped but Albon’s double.

    Oscar’s overtake was great but was made ‘easy’ because Lando didn’t expect it from a teammate. He typically should have rolled the car a bit more under braking as he saw Oscar’s car nose passing to the right. I’m pretty sure he would have done that had the car behind him been from any other team.

    The whole "team" orders debate. 1. Can it be more "fun" to watch without team orders? Yes. 2. This is also a "TEAM" sport, with the constructors championship at risk with peoples real financial investments AND all of the other team members on the teams. People tend to forget about the "team" and only focus on the drivers. But, this is a team sport. And, if the drivers throw a race because they wreck their teammate, then the TEAM loses. This team get bonuses and make greater earnings when the team wins. I get it, when you are watching you don't care about anything except the drivers fighting for the spectacle and competitive fight by teammates. I have usually been on this side of the debate, let them race. Lastly, when teammates crash, it's a VERY expensive cost that really damages the TEAMS financials. This impacts all the individuals on the team. Sometimes, basically taking money right out of their pockets whether directly or indirectly. CONCLUSION. You still have to consider all the risks and what's at stake for the whole team. You have to remember, sometimes when team orders aren't given or are ignored, the team will lose. Use your critical thinking skills here and just make sure you consider all the risks and impacts before coming to your conclusion. Personally, I think there is a bit of middle ground based on impact risk for the team.

    I don't think it's complicated. It should be Lando 1 Oscar 2. Until they have won the constructors & possibly the drivers championship. It makes it worse for us viewers but surely better for Mclaren. Next year let them race Until one of the drivers is in a strong position to take drivers championship, then you bring in the team orders.

    • @mutleyeng
      @mutleyeng 11 днів тому +6

      If it was better for Mclaren, they would do it. They really care about the constructors - they care about the drivers but not at the expense of letting their drivers race. You do not hire someone like Piastri and tell him he has to play wingman to his teammate - maybe at the last one or two races, you could have a conversation with him, but not where we are now.

    how funny would it be that Lando gets mad, is tired of being "out-foxed" and just goes full cut-throat on Pieastri? He eventually gets to a point where he just decides "you are not passing or we are crashing out" they both crash out and RB win the drivers and Ferrari the constructors. That is like... the funniest outcome to this whole thing.

    21:00 it’s not a matter of ‘this year is your turn next year is his turn’ - they should be free to race _but_ It’s it comes point in the year where they have to prioritize one driver or neither driver will win the title (like happened in 2007), they need to prioritize their leading driver. This year that’s Lando. And Oscar has got to have the confidence to be comfortable with that precedent being set, knowing that he’ll be the one benefitting from it in the future.
