Remember the events that happened just prior to launch of Wrath? That's the implied consequence according to the game.
That was a badass event, the bitching of the midwits that wanted the game to act like nothing was happening notwithstanding, and it should be an occasional thing that happens without regularity and just comes and goes.

It's a "what sword?" Situation. Technically, the Scourge have been running rampant and out of control the entire time we were in the Shadowlands dealing with nipple daddy.
The armies of Azeroth have been in a constant struggle fighting the feral Scourge because there was nothing and no one controlling them anymore.

I feel like Blizzard isn't thinking about Dragon Riding as a long-term mechanic. They see it as a way to make some traversal puzzles on the Dragon isles and once your dragon is fully trained (in the finial patch) it'll work like any other mount.

You know why Blizzard's "innovations" fail? Because they put them up for one expansion, like Artifacts, or Azerite, or Covenants or whatever and then immediately abandon them.

Agreed! Another great example is the Pokemon series as a whole.
It started with Mega Evolution...then all of a sudden dropped it, brought it back after two generations...and still only applies to a select few.
Then there were Z-moves...that lasted one generation.

I mean the Azerite system is just the artifact system except given more freedom of options allowing "player choice". You would get gear and then have the freedom to choose different powers and make your own unique build.
The problem however is the meta nature of the game and the fact powers aren't equal means your specifically looking for a set of powers and getting a piece of gear with a worse power(or if your heart wasn't leveled enough to use the powers) may net you a downgrade despite game saying its a upgrade oh and the fact that power.
Oh and now the legendary crafting is a bit of both systems stuck together, but your still gonna meta game it so really the choice doesn't matter.
People are so far believing the covenant style factions are coming back again in Dragonflight so we'll see about that one.

While elements of them carry over, most infamously the horrible command tables from the Garrisons, the fact remains that these systems are implemented then abandoned and orphaned leaving progression a disjointed and pointless mess.
And the new systems are often far worse. Azerite had nowhere near the cool factor and immersion of Artifacts for instance. We go from wielding legendary lore weapons of ultimate power to a generic necklace, with no connection from one to the other gameplay wise.

My biggest concerns with the new dragon flying, is that it will be implemented poorly and as the only way of flying allowed in the new expansion it will burn through whatever good will they managed to get back. Also...even if it is successful and beloved...they'll just toss it in the trash for some new gimmick for the next expansion.
Blizzard's developed the habit of copying from other games without bothering to find out WHY it worked for them. The Guild Wars 2 flying works because before that, there WAS no mounts. You had to run everywhere. So this was an advancement.
WoW's had mounts since vanilla and flying since BC. And the flying mounts moved about freely. A lot of players may feel more restricted, as if it's a step back. Doubly so if dragon flying isn't perfectly done. They will rightfully say, "I gave up (insert cool old flying mount here) for THIS!?"
Will you be able to use your dragon outside of the new zone? You are after all making an investment in training a dragon. Is it going to be locked to the Dragon Isles?
And of course there's the Sword issue. What happens to dragon flying at the end of the expansion? Players spent months training their dragon. New expansion rolls around are they going to just throw it in the trash...like just about every other system? "What Dragon Flying? There's never been Dragon Flying. But hey! Look at this other new cool thing for the new expansion!"

You make great points watching alot of the interviews and by what and how dragon flying was discussed the dragon flight system sounds like to be a middle ground compromise between not having flying mounts at the start to allowing some flight for the first few patch cycles.
Ian did say that if their is enough negative feedback they will eventually let you use the older mounts. Like in other xpacs getting loremaster achements.
Now if the feedback is positive they may bring this mechanic or system to the older mounts or into future xpacs.

actually the thing about dragonriding is that u will be able to use it from minute 0, it's not the same as flying as we know it. it's a theme thing for the expansion, the bond with your dragon companion. you will be progressing ur skills through the expansion but it would make no sense to not be able to fly in a dragon expansion from the very beginning. with that said, later in the expansion, maybe one patch later as always, you will get to use ur normal fly, and all your beloved mounts. they repeatedly said that dragon riding is not the same as flying, so maybe for some things you will prefer to use your normal flight. And they didn't say they will put the dragon riding system in the trash can at the end of the expansion, the will hear feedback, and see how the comunity accepts this new thing, if people want it, the will keep it. and u will be able to use ur dragon companion with dragon riding all across azeroth, that's up to the comunity to make it happen.

What’s annoying to me it’s when it’s 1) isn’t fun (AP grind) or 2) linked to how you play your class (constantly losing player power and abilities). Dragon flying seems pretty fun and light hearted and doesn’t seems to have such a big impact and your character that you’re gonna loose.

Inertia mechanics can cause frustration, however they also make you feel really skilled when you are good at it. For instance in gw2 when you pull off the perfect drift/lap racing in the roller beetle races. Or when you use the right mount for the right situation. Limitations are needed to give challenge. God mode is boring.

    • @ShadowTasos
      @ShadowTasos 2 роки тому +6

I can understand that can be fun for some players but if we're being real, that's not true for the majority. You can take Asmongold's example, PUBG with its incredibly realistic movement mechanics, with realistic driving and fall damage etc, got replaced the moment Fortnite and Apex Legends came out, offering similar gameplay but with less frustrating controls and movement. Or how League of Legends has consistently been way more popular than Dota 2 because it cuts a lot of the tedium of micro-managing your character's movement, such as acceleration and turn rates. Inertia and realism can be fun to play with, but ultimately one of the main reasons why we play games is because we don't like being restricted by real life "mechanics" aka laws of physics, hence why you're flying in those games to begin with.

    • @HeroSevenRacing
      @HeroSevenRacing 2 роки тому +13

@@ShadowTasos I’d like to take a moment to explain some gw2 design principles. There are multiple mounts and you have to work to unlock each one which gives a rewarding feeling when you do achieve that. Unlocking them gives you access to new parts of the maps of makes movement more accessible. The reason I use the gryphon is to go starting from a high point like a cliff. But the catch is it can’t glide forever. The reason I use the raptor is for that fastest distance on flat land. The reason for the jackel is tightest turning circle or going up hill or to cheat falling damage. The skimmer for underwater or as other mounts dismount you over water. The reason for the roller beetle is fastest speed over flat ground for a long distance but the catch is it can’t slow down or turn easy. The springer purley for fastest vertical travel as long as it’s not too high. The sky scale for long distance by air and scaling a long distance vertically yet it’s slower then the gryphon and springer as those respective things.
Every mount has a weakness and this is due to the implementation through inertia mechanics. Without inertia mechanics mounts have no weakness and I’d just use the one best mount all the time rendering the others useless. It’s an important part of the gameplay to determine which is the best mount for the situation and multiple mounts are core to the reward both functionality wise and cosmetically. Removing inertia mechanics would for all respective purposes render the reward and unlock system meaningless.
I’m guess this might work in WoW as they will probably only implement a single ‘god-mode’ mount giving less to unlock and cosmetically achieve and less to think about when playing.

    • @HeroSevenRacing
      @HeroSevenRacing 2 роки тому +3

It’s like in shooters - you don’t run around with a sniper rifle all the time you chose the best weapon for the situation. Without mechanics there are no weakness without weakness there is no point to having multiple weapons, or for the context of the discussion - mounts.
Your not micro managing angle trajectory and velocity 24/7 in gw2 your just choosing the right mount for the situation.

Everything you have said makes perfect sense within GW2. I've put about 100 hours into the game since launch (GW1 was my first MMO) and I've tried so damn hard to *get* GW2. It just doesn't push the right buttons for me but I can understand the appeal.
That being said, GW2 and WoW are very different games. Everything about GW2 is movement. Fast and flowing, even the combat - in my experience, the majority of GW2 cast time abilities can be cast on the move while the majority of WoW cast time abilities can't. There's no dodging in WoW outside of basic WASD movement or class abilities while it's a fundamental mechanic in GW2.
I'm probably just boring, but the GW2 raptor (my only mount) pisses me off because of the inertia mechanics. I just want to talk to this dude, why do I need to practice dealing with inertia mechanics to stop in the right place (and then get dismounted anyway)? In WoW, my flying mount means I can jump on it, go up high and go in a straight line. It's downtime where I don't need to concentrate on playing the game. GW2 has made that fun for the people who enjoy it but I'm not playing a combat-oriented MMO so that every single journey is some glorified jumping puzzle.
I'm not trying to invalidate your opinion or your enjoyment from mastering a system. It's great that people love the system, but different people like different things and personally speaking, if I did like the system I'd probably have gotten on a lot better with GW2 (and wouldn't be actively put off by the dragonriding system)

Makes u feel cool. Enertia is there more for looks and awesome animations rather then being there for "raptor needs to feel real". The 1cm raptor mount needs to stop, you will never need to be that precise with it like in other games. You will never have to hit a 1x1m door on a mount in a tight curve. As long as they introduce a system and players are able to freely interact with the entirety of the system with no pushback there won't be any problems. To use covenants as an example I want to open world as a Venthyr, I want to dungeon as a Night Fae, I want to PVP as a Necrolord and I want to play my tank spec as a Kyrian. Early Shadowlands didn't let you do that and strangled you by preventing you from playing with the system ARBITRARILY, there was no reason to make the system as stiff as it was. In Legion, it sucked playing multiple specs because you couldn't level up your artifact weapon to fully interact with your class and before you had your desired pool of legendaries interacting with the legendary system sucked but once all your artifact weapons were high level and you had all the legendaries you wanted there was literally no problem with the Legion systems.
Players just want to play a good game and they don't want something they personally view as "stupid and pointless" or something that doesn't need to exist to stand in the way of them playing the video game.

The thing he's getting wrong is that people love Guild Wars for it's "mount mechanics" (the skill it takes as a player to use mounts)... But literally *NOBODY* plays WoW for it's mount mechanics. The context of the playerbase's priorities is totally different and that's what I think he's missing.
He's looking at an aspect that he loves of a game that he loves, seeing it bastardized in another game, and thinking; "Doing this would be a disaster _where it's from,_ so it will be a disaster here." But 'here' is relative, and in this case it's a totally different environment and a totally different community which means the mechanic has a totally different context for it's weight and impact to the game as a whole.
WoW players don't care about mount mechanics at all, it's not even on the list of things they care about because it practically doesn't exist in the game (flying in the game is just a dev tool with limitations). The rough order of what aspects of the game WoW players care about is: loot and cosmetics, raiding and story, visuals and combat, then crafting and character-building. Everything else is peripheral and changes from expansion to expansion, this expansion just happens to have mount mechanics.

    • @toaonua523

I think what it comes down to is that WoW players are left to care about the few crumbs they have left. Loot is not interesting if it's replaced in a week. Story is not meaningful if we don't feel either engaged or influential in it.
When it comes down to it, any game only amounts to how much meaningful gameplay it provides, and the WoW developers are stuck in the habit of constantly making more and more disposable content with carrots-on-a-stick.
The Timeless Isle and Legion Artifact Weapons were some of the things that Blizzard did amazingly only to shit them out of the door. Content that gave impactful rewards based on your time spent, and gameplay that directly affected your progression week to week.
Neither one of these things had 'amazing rewards loot or cosmetics' but small things to work up to as you enjoyed the systems for what they were.
You can't build a game off of cock-blocking players by giving them things like Tanaan Jungle or Azerite Necklaces. They will always remember how much time they spent on the other systems for naught.

Cinematics are that one thing you can count on Blizzard doing really, really well. The best ones have those moments that give me goosebumps, and react verbally even when I'm watching them alone.
Legacy of the Void, Heart of the Swarm, Wrath of the Lich King, Legion, Warlords of Draenor, Battle for Azeroth, Warcraft 3. All incredible, and all super rewatchable.
Even the ones I'd consider not as good as the ones above, are still pretty damn good.
Dragonflight is the first cinematic that I've seen from Blizzard that didn't make me want to play the game it came from. I don't think I'll ever replay it.
Compared to the 2 High Templar merging and taking down an Ultralisk with POWER OVERWHELMING, or Anduin throwing down Shalamayne and using the light to mass resurrect. I'm Horde for life, and I still feel that moment in my chest.

Ive never played Wow but I watched the cinematics at a mate's behest and the ones I watched actually slapped. I had no context for any of them besides kinda recognising some of the characters, but the way they were made with the music swell and the grandness of them still managed to give me goosebumps. I think I watched BFA and WOTLK, as well as one where Sylvanas comes looming out of some fog on a flying airship (idk which one it was) but all of them looked awesome.
Same with the Starcraft 2 cinematics that I watched for the first time very recently. I've never touched SC but watching the Queen of the Swarm or whatever, and that one that I think youre mentioning in your comments about the high templars. The robot one where they merge and grapple with the ultralisk before teleporting people in to fight the swarm? Every single one I watched was phenomenal and so when watching the new reveal with the aforementioned mate, we both expected at least the cinematic to be epic and exciting.
We were both fundamentally disappointed with it, and I dont even play the game. My mate said it was the first time he was ever let down with a Blizzard cinematic and it was definitely a far cry from the ones I watched. The dragons appearing to catch the stone guy was the most predictable thing ive ever seen, not to mention that it looked like a shot straight out of How to Train your Dragon. The colour schemes and the overall design of the dragons looked pretty disney-esque and when I look back on the WOTLK and the dragon that appears out of that it seems that the art design of the game has changed drastically and I must say the old definitely appeals more to me than the new.

What I personally find concerning is how frequently they've been imitating visual aspects from other games within just the last few months and how they directly insert these into the game without really putting much effort to at least add their own flair or improvements. I just hope it doesn't keep happening because at the moment all it's telling me is that they're stumped on fresh ideas. As far as I've seen Warcraft has a unique visual design that doesn't copy and in reality is copied by very many games (mobile ones especially). At the very least they are the best early version of this style back when Warcraft 3 originally released. Maybe there is a little known game they stole that visual design from but, when I have watched documentaries about Blizzard it seems that their original art team (mainly Samwise Didier and Chris Metzen) came up with the particular aesthetic that Warcraft utilizes, although it is obviously heavily influenced by earlier visual depictions of high fantasy (such as D&D).

The scene played out almost exactly like the Heavensward scene in FFXIV with the whole "two characters placing hand on shoulders to lend power to assist someone who is struggling against corruption from evil". If you put the scenes side by side it's just too close. Some other examples are the denizens of Xerath Mortis who create the concept of life and make metallic/ethereal sounds when they speak, just like the ancients from FFXIV in Shadowbringers a few years ago. There's many many more just within the last few months, I could list them but I don't want to make this comment longer than it already is. What I mean by that is that it can be fun or it sucks, but it will still fulfill the purpose of going from A to B faster. It’s the same with Warfronts from BFA, it’s an expansion feature and if it fails it won’t really hit the core of the game, which is m+, raiding and arena/rbg.
The copium nerd is just hating on Blizzard for taking the best feature from his favorite game. And if it’s better than normal flying then it’ll feel worse in 3-4 years when Blizz throws it in the bin like all other expansion systems. I want them to honestly succeed, I want to see them do better, I want the company's name to clean their slate, change their toxic ethos and do better. the expansion hasn't come out yet, and though I am lowering expectations on this one, I am cautiously hopeful. Blizzard has everything to prove here. Asmon is right though, these are the people you need to win over because this sentiment is shared widely. The may not be content creators or as negative as him, but there is an asterisk in their minds about whatever they do. Many observations are just speculation, like how the assets are reused...but the belief that they are lazy is real and that matters. This is unfair only if you expect a genre defining title to be free of criticism and to ignore what happened. WoW is still influential enough that what decisions they make will be followed by others...be it perpetuating the microtransactions or lack of innovativeness. There needs to be competition and WoW being good makes other MMOS better, as said by many other peers in the industry.

It would be refreshing to see them create a focus on MMO aspects. Focus an expansion on guilds, whether that be through rewards for guilds completing achievements/content, or a renounce system that rewards guild cohesion. The game seems to be idling towards a single player (non-mmo) experience. Guilds and partnering content is what made the game such a resounding success. Nothing succeeds like success, so build upon what has been proven to work. I would love content that absolutely drives the MMO concept, and not small group content, like M+ and small raid groups.

WoW (and FF14) are some of the last MMOs that don't have that pay2win or pay to not grind massively. You are on an even playing field if you are an average player (top mythic raiders do spend a lot on WoW tokens for gold I think) and since gold doesn't progress you much (if at all) as far as power progression goes the only other items in the shop are visual. It sure as hell beats the gambling end game power progression of Lost Ark. WoW also could be considered the best in very many ways, Mounts, Transmog, Raiding, Dungeons, Achievements, Gameplay (if you want typical MMO gameplay) are all examples of the major areas I think it beats every other game. It's not a perfect game but I think it's the best MMO still at this point for someone like me at least. I was very upset with the way the lore and story played out in Shadowlands (leveling experience is great IMO though), but a recent theory has me reconsidering (that the Primus is actually "behind it all" lol). At the very least Zoval being depicted as a literal puppet at least explained to me why he came off so hollow. I just hope, as listen through the audiobook of Sylvanas, that there is at least a somewhat well reasoned explanation for why she joined with the Jailer and everything up to what happened last patch.

At the same time, they run the risk of not giving the game enough time to cook, especially with the various revamps and new features. The last one i actually failed was in WOTLK, and you know what? I remember it. Borrowed Power has been a problem since Mists. The amazing items and legendaries that were straight-up ripped from players gives Blizzard the most disgusting boner. Unless Dragonflying is implemented in every zone and you can keep the mounts after the expansion is over, this will INEVITABILITY piss EVERYONE off. But Blizzard won't do this.
Mists: Crystal of Insanity - a hidden item with a long cooldown that helped players that didn't have enough gold for elixirs yet. Ignored in WoD, should have been buffed with a % stat boost
WoD: Garrisons - forced players to spend time and gold in their isolated player-housing, then nerfed them so players can't make gold from them in Legion (even if you were leveling alts)
Legion: Amazing Artifact Weapons that became intrinsic to gameplay and rotations. Thrown away at lvl 115 with the most unsatisfying nerf, with a shitty necklace replacing it
Blizzard can't be scared of what has been added to the game. Be proud of what it already is, and make every item valuable. I would straight up resub if I can use my Thunderfury in Mythic+ progression and pop my Aqua Jewel off of cd to be a badass for a swimming section that pisses everyone off without one.
MAKE Aviana's Feather USEABLE outside of Draenor. Fuck the Kyrian Wings knockoff proves they have no problem with this mechanic.
NERF all flying mounts so Dragonflying can shine. No need to afk with 310% or whatever it is now if a better alternative is provided.
Give all players their Artifact weapon abilities back in the new talent tree.

I haven’t played WoW since Lich King, so looking at the speculation from the outside in, I think Pessimism is gonna beat Optimism again. The reason I feel the pessimistic outlook seems more likely is I’m pretty sure Blizzard is burned out, they keep churning out these half-finished expansions at a regular pace, and they’re reduced to copying trending meaning there’s no reason to expect innovation. All the wishful thinking in the world can’t keep Blizzard Magic going, same way it couldn’t save BioWare Magic, they’re creatively bankrupt, emotionally exhausted, and force to keep pushing out factory-mandated derivative churn to meet arbitrary financial milestones.
I would further double down that unfounded optimism from a community is a “bad friend” relationship, the enabler. The misguided cheerleading is doing more damage to company you say you love by happy talking your way past criticisms like AG consistently does here “oh we don’t have enough information” is NFT bro level cult behavior, it’s not just FUD, there are reasonable good faith arguments for the pessimism, and your unwavering support (which you probably feel good about) is just enabling bad behavior.

I've been an avid Warcraft player since year 2. For the past 15 years or so the demise of Warcraft has been greatly exaggerated. That said, I do think Warcraft has lost its way. With each expansion it seems to drift farther ands farther from what it once was.
Some of the things that come to mind is the lack of tech support from game masters. It use to be if you had problems they would log into the game and not only help you, but stay and chat a moment.
Another big bugaboo is scaling. It use to be we looked forward to leveling up and moving on to new areas. Not anymore. From Elwynn Forest to Kul Tiras it is now all the same. The only exception is the professions, a level 10 can make all sorts of things that are of no use to them till the make level 30.
Another thing I despise is pathfinder. I'd rather just pay my money and fly like when I made level 30, I hate "to do" bucket lists just to fly. The same for new characters. I use to look forward to expansions with new characters, but not anymore. First the new characters lost their homes and so there was no going back for them and no capital city. Then there came "to do" bucket lists to access new characters. Also the new characters have lost their originality. A dwarf is a dwarf, an elf is an elf, a Tauren is still a Tauren and so on no matter what they call them or what color they make them. And the poor mechagnome look like quadriplegics.
Starting with the Broken Isles Blizzard came up with the brilliant idea to make the game more fun and challenging by simply making it more difficult to get around.
My last complaint is the game has become so convoluted and non-user friendly. In the beginning it was quite simple. Once you got the hang of game play it generally was quite simple to figure out what to do next. Now I find myself spending more time on Wowhead and less time playing. However much of Wowhead has become little more than meaningless prattle about storyline and speculation about where some name in the game came from.

I still experimented with builds where none of the specs were complete, and it was fun! One example on my mage was that I put part of my talents on Arcane, Fire, and Frost instead of completing just one talent tree. There was room to do whatever I wanted

It is not possible to just replace an engine. It is realistically 3-5 years project for majority of the team. A realistic timeline for this would look something like this:
    - Team 2 works on engine overhaul for 3 years.
    - Team 1 pumps out content on old engine version in the meantime.
    - After 2-2.5 years the content stops, and you have 1.5-2 years content draught, because Bliz needs to convert old data to new engine and create some new content.
So, if they opt for it, it's going to be worse than WoD/MoP level of content draught.
A more feasible option is what they are doing now - replacing bits and pieces of engine. It seems that the next thing due is their development and build pipeline, which seems to be the bottleneck for iteration and content production.

The thing that worries me about the talent tree is we are just making the same decisions as the previous talent tree but in a way where you can non-thematically hybridize your character into performing worse than the basic kits allowed anyways, it feels illusory. It feels like we have the illusion of interesting choices and we'll notice the negative nuances quickly later on.

Dont hope for the success of the game, ignore it, and play it when it is actually good... A game should not get you money unless that game is proven to be good. If a game is good it will continue to grow, WoW is not good, it does not grow. If a subscriber base declines that means word of mouth brought new people, and nothing in that game appealed to them, they left, and in so doing didnt continue that word of mouth to bring in other new players. That means it is a bad game, more specifically a bad MMO.

    • @crashzone6600
      @crashzone6600 2 роки тому

@Keshuel in order for a garbage game to make alot of money it has to bring either many players that spend money on it, in which case it isn't a garbage game, it is just a game you hate. Or it has to have a mechanic that is addictive, that will get a small group of players to spend alot of money on it. Gamers aren't stupid, they are just human, and being human, the same psychological tricks that will get people to gamble away their life savings in a casino will work in a virtual world as well. That's not a good game that is a predatory game. That is an entirely different discussion.
However I didn't make an argument based on money. I did it purely based on the population of a game, in this case an MMO, where the number of players that play it, says more about the game, than the number of people that consistently play a single player game. An MMO is different than a single player game, because it is a continuous experience, while a single player games success is strictly dictated by a very short period from where it initially goes up for sale. It is like the difference between a channel like asmongold who has a consistent high number of average views, versus a single video that goes extremely viral. The success is measured in different ways.
The success of an MMO is that the higher its average player count, the better that MMO is. You can try to deny this, but that is simply how it is, not everyone's preference match yours, nor should they. If the MMO starts to consistently lose its player base, that means they are making bad decisions that are driving away the player base. Now the only time this isnt the case, is in the case of the ebb and flow of the content, where players will get bored of the content, leave for a period and then come back when there is new content.
WoW is a bad MMO, because it's average player count continue to trends downward, even though they release new content. That means new content can't even bring people back to play the game. It is even worse, still because there are more gamers today then there were yesterday, a game should not be seeing a decline at all, but a steady increase. I would even say that a certain level of increase means that the game is doing poorly because your increase should be somewhat proportional to the number of gamers there are. If there is an increase of new gamers there should be an increase in the number of new players that subscribe to WoW.

The growth of a product is a direct reflection on its quality, people will not use a product if it's bad, nor will they recommend to other people, for the most part. Yes, BfA and Shadowlands were horrible expansions there's no debate on that. But from the interviews I've seen they're fixing the gripes I have with the game. That being flying not being locked behind Pathfinder, account wide progression, no AP system of any way, crafting being meaningful again, and the return of the old talent system but modernized. The whole "do graphics matter in video games" debate is far from settled, I do think graphical fidelity can be a major factor, but I don't think it's the most important or enough to carry a poorly-made game. Looking at remakes of older games, for examples Crash Bandicoot Trilogy and MediEvil, both got a graphical upgrade but Crash tweaked the controls while MediEvil kept the original control scheme, and the public reception seemed to say that MediEvil remake suffered because it didn't improve on the control. Then you have GTA Trilogy and all the ways that went awry, a general graphic overhaul actually made the game worse by all accounts, though GTA like most games with active modding communities made HD visual packs for the older games. It's silly to say graphics don't matter, but it's equally ridiculous to say they're the most important thing.

Dragonflight will be more of what we come to expect. Probably a good launch but mediocre moving forward and more arbitrary systems to extend play time that can't be justified with patches well designed features. But, it will never eclipse the MMO market.
Also, the whole "trying to re-capture the original audience" thing is probably a bad business model. Most of the "OG audience" are in their 30s-40s and have moved on or they simply aren't marketable anymore. Doing that historically hasn't maintained an audience for long.
