      I prefer all three methods you've done. Only if you're the one doing it. Real professional. Much more difficult than you make it look. 👍👍👍

    I love to use shears if time allows. You did a good job with all. Sometimes it's nice not having the smoke and noise. What do you prefer?

    • @RJLgardens
      @RJLgardens  3 роки тому +2

      Agree with you there pal, def something enjoyable and rewarding about using hand shears when the job allows. Most of the time though for practicality it has to be the hedge trimmer. A small decent battery 1 would be ideal 👍

      Yeh its not bad mate, only really good for very light trimming though. Not tough enough for anything meaty but does an ok job, this was about as much as it could handle. Prob my least fav of the 3. 👍

    I suppose for the environment the hand shears should win...
    Must admit I quite like the idea of going back to hand tools for smal bushes and I'm plucking up courage to buy myself some Niwaki shears....so expensive though.

    I just use the good old fashion hand pruning shears. Nothing more therapeutic then chopping away at the branches. Great job shaping them. I always cut too narrow at the base the. Desired. I’ll be more careful this time around.

    Can you cut them any time of the year and weather conditions

    • @RJLgardens

      these are generally cut between spring and late summer depending on the type of cut required, stay away from frosts or heatwaves though ideally.

    Which brand and type is the hand shears you are using?

  • @howlis
    @howlis Рік тому

    I think it depends on how many you have to do and how big they are, I use hand shears and finish with the sheep shears and find it quite therapeutic on a nice day but also use powered shears on my larger Topiaries.

    This is not a "How To" - it is a demonstration of an artist forming perfect spheres. I have tried many times, using many different tools, to achieve this affect but alas, cannot do it. It's not the tool, it's the skill of the operator. How do you hold the tool, do you lean into it or sideways, do you do this or that? I'm still clueless, lol!

    • @RJLgardens
      @RJLgardens  2 роки тому +1

      Maybe they are, but the purpose of the exercise was surely to show that a good job can be done whatever tools are used. Actually I don’t think many people could use shears and do such a good job.
