    I agree with all your tips except for the one on lighting. I live in a townhouse and don't have many widows. I have been using daylight bulbs because I feel it makes it feel like the sunlight is getting in better. Luckily we have a skylight as well which helps. I just feel that daylight bulbs help make the space feel more open and bright.

    I also find keeping my kitchen and bathroom surfaces clean and as free from clutter as possible also helps with depression. I do not have bottles of shampoo or conditioner, or toothbrushes or toothpaste or used facecloths hanging around.

    So true about plants. Had cats for over 40 years. When the last one passed at age 21, I decided I was too old and poor for a new one. Started getting plants and started feeling better. Gives me living things to nurture. Have trouble staying on top of clutter, even though it triggers my anxiety. Then I finally get fed up with all the clutter and start clean and tidying.

    Years ago, we had the main living areas painted stark white. I suffered from depression. I read white could be a depressing color and realized it was for me. I use warm colors now. I've decided to paint my north-facing kitchen white, but it's a very warm ivory. I'm thinking only the stark white is depressing, at least for me.

    Dark, dull colors are really depressing. When interior and/or clothes are just black-grey-brown with some white here &there, it makes human brain depressed. Ancient humans lived in forests with bright-green tree leaves, light-green grass, in which there were small red-yellow-violet-pink-white flowers here & there, orange-red-pink-green fruits & berries, - and above all that - lovely blue sky. In the south the only time, when everything was turning dark, was night, - the dangerous time, when predators were hunting, and people felt unsafe. In the north the dark time, when forests used to turn black, grey, brown & white, was winter, - for ancient people the time of not only cold, but also hunger & deprivation, when it was difficult to find the food. That was going on for ages, compare to the short time of civilization. Modern designers may think, that dark colors in the interiors are "trendy", but the brain of the person, who lives in those interiors, will be influenced by this scary environment, and subconsciously get depressed.
    The best for the interior are pastel colors, which are not depressing, like dark ones, but not over-stimulating, like too bright color: red or yellow - in very big quantities.

    Nope! Definitely not!.. making the bed is such an American thing!
    In Europe we "unmake our bed" in the morning... we pull back the sheets, shake out the duvet, fluff the pillows and leave it open with daylight coming in and the window open to air for 20 mins+. This reduces the bed mites.. they don't like light, cold, dry air. (If you make your bed, you keep in the moisture and heat, your body lost in the night, in the bed and it stays dark in your bed with the sheets pulled up..that is perfect for bed mites reproduction). I still tidy the duvet and straighten the mattress sheet when i "unmake my bed" which I find still looks tidy.
    Otherwise some great ideas.

    • @user-oj5bw7sl8p
      @user-oj5bw7sl8p 6 місяців тому +2

      That's truth, I do the same. It helps, if one has a proper bedroom, which one can leave "in intimate state" through the day. If somebody lives in a studio apartment or open-plan house with no proper intern walls, which would divide the rooms and hide the undone bed, then it's slightly more difficult.

    • @rebeccarendle3706
      @rebeccarendle3706 6 місяців тому +3

      @@user-oj5bw7sl8p True-ish. But all you tubers I have seen to date have separate bedroom's.
      However, even in a studio, you can unmake it while at work. Then make it when you come home from work.
      Also it can look nice and tidy "unmade."

      I wouldn't display anything I don't like. Doesn't matter if it was a gift. Family should not care, if they love you. I get rid of things I don't use or like.

    • @nonnieTerri
      @nonnieTerri 6 місяців тому +3

      Rotate decor. You can have a couple items that were gifts and then switch them out frequently.

    • @wakingtheworld
      @wakingtheworld 6 місяців тому +3

      Once an item passes into your hands, it's yours to do with as you wish - to display it, sell it, give it away, whatever. I don't have anything that doesn't resonate with me, fit my style or that would clash with my colour scheme so lilac, sky blue, pink for eg would not be welcome. One should only have things that 'spark joy'. Yes, it's tough on the relatives but their taste ain't yours necessarily. My kidz buy me 'experiences' or flowers! Much nicer.

    • @georgettea7836

      @@wakingtheworld Thanks for the advice! It can be hard with more conservative cultures like mine. Growing up in a migrant culture in Australia,I noticed the older people wanted to cling to the past. Objects mean a lot to them and the younger generation want to be modern. But you are right, it is your home and you have to be happy with how you live.
