Thank you for the splendid video! It was highly informative. Could you please let me know where I can find the diagrams from Autodata you showed in the video?
Hi, thank you, garage where im working have subscription to autodata, beside this I really dont know where to get diagrams and manuals online, other option you can try to find Haynes manuals for your car.
@ Thank you for your answer, I really appreciate it. Was there any noise? I'm just asking because my wife's car has 122,000 km and there is no noise, it's completely quiet.
Hi mate, this is a great & helpful video. So if the timing tool is not sitting flash with the camshafts, how do you adjust or move the cams to sit flash with the tool? I have the same engine & i think the engine's valve timing is a bit off...Please explain how to do it (setting the timing right)..Thank you in advance Watching from South Africa ...
Hi, so to adjust you need to loosen both camshaft sprockets at the front where the chain sits and using spanner you can turn camshafts either way to get alighment tool to sit correctly, once tool is fitter correctly you proceed to to tighten back camshaft sprocket. All this you do after crankshaft/flywheel is locked in place, best of luck!
Sorry to hear that, sometimes you can take small test drive and fault might appear and other way is try disconnecting one by one coil packs to see which cylinder is misfirenand then go from there, best of luck!
Hi, to me its bit excessive, but it also depends where they get parts from, what is included in job, I think BMW price going to be over £1k, but private garage shouldnt more than £700 including parts.
i changed my timing change following your instruction ! i checked the timing after replacing timing chain all was okay now i have Drivetrain error , and it shoes 2 codes from the dme 130f20 - exhaust camshaft angle offset with respect to crankshaft outside tolerance 120408 - charging pressure control switch off as consequence
Sorry to hear this, but I think you have same issue as car i worked on, as customer supplied parts him self, he did not buy camshaft adjuster sprockets and I also had same fault codes after repairs, week later he bring new camshaft sprockets, I did job again exactly same way and had fault codes dissapear, or other option camshaft sprockets were not aligned correctly. PS I mentioned this at the end my video, where I am replacing only camshaft sprockets.
@@omarsultan341 well there is no exact position ( as much as I am aware of) but IN and EX should be upwards or to my understanding around 12 o’clock, also if you had fault code that timing correleation was wrong you need new sprockets
It will depend on garage where you take it, but I think should not cost more than £1000 even if you take it to dealers, but then again they can charge what ever they want.
Just on the phone with bmw they said depending on the cars status (unsure what they meant by that ) but £1500-6500. BMW garages are a joke support from local garages are more honest and helpful
The crankshaft pulley position isn't important, the crank isn't timed with the pulley and a keyway like it used to be. Instead the crankshaft is rotated so that number 1 piston is at TDC and a timing pin is inserted into the back of the engine to lock it in place (@ 10:30 in the video), with the cams also positioned and locked into place with the cam timing tool the chain links them all together. The freewheeling crank sprocket is torqued tight by the pulley stub pinching it into place between the pulley stub and crankshaft, same deal with the cams and cam adjuster sprockets, locking the cams and crank into time. Yes, the cam and crank sprockets are held in place by friction alone! Don't skimp on the new bolts or torque values, they need to be mighty tight, and the bolts are stretch to fit, a one time only deal.
Best video I have seen for timing chain replacement, looking forward to many more - Thanks.
Awesome, thank you!
Excellent brother, thank you so much. I learned a lot from this video.
Thank you, happy to help.

Great video!
Is it known how many km was in when the timing chain replaced? Thank you in advace.
Hi, not many to our surprise somewhere around 61k miles, that is like close to 100 000km

@EverydayValuedMechanic thank you.
Great video, I'm a BMW fan, have had E30, £36, E46, and a couple of E91 automatics.
Cool, thanks! If I had choice I would work only work BMW, great cars to own!
had the same engine and had done chain timing replacement, but now the vehicle has a misfire but no code showing.

at how many km should you change the timing belt on a 116i?
They say 160.000 km. My N13 timing chain was changed last year.
Hi, timing chain dont have specific mileage or km, but 160000km would good time to change, or at least take it to garage for inspection.
Why are all garages charging £1,068 for this? I don't think it's hard if you do it every day.

Did you reuse the camshaft sprocket bolts as well as the crankshaft pulley bolt?
First time no, but second times I did install new bolts and and new sprockets, 44:06 you can see it here!
Excellent video. Thank you very much.
Glad you liked it!
Hi, can i bring a BMW 1 series to with same engine? How do i contact you? Thanks

Maybe reset the Vanos adaptations
