    NOTE 1: Although this diesel heater seemed to run fine with the exhaust tube bent at a 90 degree angle, I have seen some comments on UA-cam that diesel heaters may throw an error code if the exhaust tube is blocked or bent - so my recommendation would be to keep it completely straight (no bends) if possible.
    NOTE 2: Based on the comments below I believe the issue for the start-up issues related to amperage comes down to the diesel heaters themselves, and not the external batteries. Some diesel heaters just draw a few more amps at start-up and that may require an additional AC to DC converter.

      I have used my Jackery 300 (one of the smallest ones they make, only 1 smaller size available) on a 5KW and had no issues from start up to operating the whole night.

      @@steelontarget Thanks for the comment. Another Jackery user in the comments below did have an issue with start-up, which leads me to think Note 2 above is valid. It is good to hear what all external battery users are experiencing. I thought I was the only one with a problem!!!

      You can also upgrade to a 12awg power cord and shorten it. Helps spread the amperage. Mine started right up after that mod. I shortened it to 5.5 ft

    Hi Mike, to power a diesel heater you can use a Goal Zero Yeti 1000 (and above), Oupes Mega 2, Etaker M2000, or Hardened Power Systems JuiceBox G3 or G2. The Goal zero comes with an Anderson DC out port which is rated to 20 amps. I don’t recommend the Goal Zero because it utilizes old lithium technology. The Oupes Mega 2 also has an Anderson DC out port rated to a whopping 30 amps. The Etaker doesn’t have an Anderson DC out port but it has higher rated DC car port out rated at 12v - 12amps. Higher quality diesel heaters require around 11-12 amps to start up. Typical Diesel heaters only need 10 amps (diesel heaters range from needing 9-12 amps to start then drop down after initial start up to as low as .5 amps depending on fan speed setting). The issue here is when you buy a cheap 5KW Chinese diesel heater that can be powered by a 12v - 10amp DC car outlet, that’s because those are actually a 4KW diesel heater and not a true 5KW heater even though they advertise as being a 5KW heater. The higher quality diesel heaters are truly 5KW heaters and usually require more than 10amps (usually 11 or 12 amps). Even some Chinese heater require 11amps. I also don’t recommend the JuiceBox G3 or G2 because the customer service and warranty is non existent. Once they get your money they won’t return emails or phone calls ever. So a bit of a risk. As for the Oupes Mega 2 and the Etaker, in my opinion, they are at the top of tech the game for power stations. For those power stations where you can utilize the Anderson DC out ports, you will need to buy on Amazon an Anderson to 12v fridge plug cord or just splice in the Anderson plug into the diesel heaters’ provided power cord. Hope this helps your subscribers.

    Also if you are in touch with Cube power station folks I would recommend for their next gen models to include 1 DC Car socket (possibly 2) and DEFINITELY 2 Anderson DC out ports. It’s way more efficient to use DC than the inverter to save battery. It sucks to have to use the DC to DC inverter because it ramps up to 110v only to run nothing less than a .5 amp diesel heater. Using the Anderson DC out, your not wasting all those amps and volts draining your battery quickly.

    Awesome vid! I just picked up the same exact diesel heater from intoxventures last Fri 12/9. I've been testing it out and had the same issue with my Jackery 1K, had to purchase the same converter to make it work. Since that mod so far so good. Next is a trip!

    Nice video and it looks like a nice unit! You may have made some improvements already, but besides putting a hard 2mm I’d fuel line off the discharge of pump, I noted on mine that bulkhead fitting for the exhaust was starting to deform my case on settings above 3 for long period due to the heat transfer. The gasket that is on the fitting is not enough and I recommend a fireproof felt which will give you much more protection. Also my Bluetti EB55 will not run it but my EB70s will. They are both suppose to have the same regulated plug, but apparently not. Good luck with your adventures. One last thing, I bought a Webasto muffler and it cuts the noise by at least a half. They are not cheap but it the noise is a concern I highly recommend it. I was so impressed with my heater, I bought 3 more👍

      How did the felt work out? Did it stop the warping problem? Did you replace the gaskets inside and out, or layer it with the provided gaskets?

    One trick is to leave your rig running until the unit completes priming and heating up that glow plug. After that, turn off the rig and you’re set for the night. This way there’s less draw on your battery when the heater is using the most amps.

    How long will it run at level 5 on a full tank of fuel?

    • @flyfisher530
      @flyfisher530  8 місяців тому

      No idea. Having used it for over a year now I can say it will run at least 12 hours on level one and still have fuel left in the diesel tank but if we assume level five is five times more fuel usage, which I’m not sure is true then you might only get a few hours, but that’s a total guess but I can tell you on level one it keeps the rooftop tent warm all night long in below freezing weather.
