Lindsay I completely understand how you feel. I had stillborn twins at 7 months and this song so perfectly fits the day of their birth for me. I now play this for my 3 month old who always falls asleep to it. Things get better, stay strong and hold on to your hope.

Let me tell you a little story:
On December 2011, I was on my honey moon, an in the hotel we were staying, there was a beautiful song playing everywhere we go, in our room, on the restaurant, at the bar, etc, etc. By the end of the week, I was also singing it from the back of my head, and I liked it so much that I have to google it, without knowing too much about it. That is how I found Kina Grannis singing Valentine and immediately I became a big fan of you, and the music you make.
Now, you sang Iris better than ever....

I’ve watched so many Golden Buzzer moments to this song. Didn’t think to look it up until now. Glad I did.
I didn't realize that AGT had used it more than once! I don't have cable and don't follow the shows, but I watch plenty of clips and recaps. I stumbled upon Angie Green's audition from 2019 literally TODAY, and immediately after Heidi hit that golden buzzer, I heard this angelic voice sing a line from Iris by Goo Goo Dolls...
Well, that was enough for me! I went on a mission to find out whose voice I'd heard, and thanks to the internet sleuths before me, it was simple to find, and I'm so grateful! This cover hits so differently than the original, which isn't necessarily so easy to come by, especially with such a well known and popular favorite. Kina took my soul on an entirely different journey than I expected.
As a rule, I don't listen to covers of my favorite songs/artists, assuming no one can do them justice. This cover is a MAJOR exception. Not that's it's "better," per se. But Kina made it her own to the extent that it seems like it's almost not even the same song. Plus, this version seems so versatile. Within this comment section alone, I've seen folks talk about using it in weddings, while others say it made them feel something when they were too numb/depressed to feel anything at all. I've found folks who have been touched by this and felt less alone at their rock bottom of life. Others have played this version at funerals or to help with their grief of a loss.
I hope to see this beautiful young lady go far in life. Talent, passion, technique, control, work ethic... Can't wait to see what the future brings! (Meanwhile, I'll binge all her older videos. Subscribing, notifications on!)

I bet you heard the one I heard, the Kroger holiday commercial? They actually used Colbie Caillat's version that just released a few weeks ago, which suspiciously sounds JUST like this version. I far prefer this one, wished they used Kina's instead, but I'd like to think without this cover, Colbie wouldn't have made her take on it that Kroger ended up using.
