Let me tell you a little story: On December 2011, I was on my honey moon, an in the hotel we were staying, there was a beautiful song playing everywhere we go, in our room, on the restaurant, at the bar, etc, etc. By the end of the week, I was also singing it from the back of my head, and I liked it so much that I have to google it, without knowing too much about it. That is how I found Kina Grannis singing Valentine and immediately I became a big fan of you, and the music you make. Now, you sang Iris better than ever.... Well, that was enough for me! I went on a mission to find out whose voice I'd heard, and thanks to the internet sleuths before me, it was simple to find, and I'm so grateful! This cover hits so differently than the original, which isn't necessarily so easy to come by, especially with such a well known and popular favorite. Kina took my soul on an entirely different journey than I expected. As a rule, I don't listen to covers of my favorite songs/artists, assuming no one can do them justice. This cover is a MAJOR exception. Not that's it's "better," per se. But Kina made it her own to the extent that it seems like it's almost not even the same song. Plus, this version seems so versatile. Within this comment section alone, I've seen folks talk about using it in weddings, while others say it made them feel something when they were too numb/depressed to feel anything at all. I've found folks who have been touched by this and felt less alone at their rock bottom of life. Others have played this version at funerals or to help with their grief of a loss. I bet you heard the one I heard, the Kroger holiday commercial? They actually used Colbie Caillat's version that just released a few weeks ago, which suspiciously sounds JUST like this version. I far prefer this one, wished they used Kina's instead, but I'd like to think without this cover, Colbie wouldn't have made her take on it that Kroger ended up using. If you were "little" three years ago, my Mom instincts tell me you're still likely pretty darn young. Absolutely no hate whatsoever is meant by that! I would give anything to be a kid again. Now, especially having four kids, the most important advice I could EVER give to a child or teenager is to PLEASE do all that you can to enjoy your youth, and do ANYTHING you can not to rush into adulthood. There are perks to being an adult, but I promise you, the stress and responsibilities strongly outweigh the perks. Not to say adulthood sucks, but I'm willing if you took a survey, most adults would want to be kids again if given the chance. Enjoy childhood before it slips away! ✌🏻💚🕯️

I don't know you, your age, your life, your circumstances... I'm just a stranger on the internet. But if nothing else, I'm honest and open. I've made enough mistakes and dealt with enough bullshit that I hope that maybe my rambling might help at least just one person. When I've been numb, and suddenly actually feel something real, it usually equates to me being a sobbing hot mess, whether it's happiness, sadness, anger... It's a breakthrough for me that reminds me, "HOLY SHIT! I actually AM still alive. I'm not a soulless nothing." And that alone usually gives me enough hope to seek something else to make me feel alive. I could be completely wrong. But try it out and reassure yourself it's healthy to feel. Allow it and seek it. When my dad died twenty years ago I was holding his hand. It was peaceful and sad, I was at a hospital in downtown Dallas with my mom, wife, my brothers and sisters. When I got to my truck to leave the song on the radio was Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. It will always mean something to me. I heard this version on America's Got Talent last night and it was amazing! I absolutely love this!

But watching recaps and clips on UA-cam is a recent past time the last 4-6 months. I saw Angie Green's golden buzzer audition, and after hearing the first line of this cover, I was immediately searching. Found this cover and this talented young lady literally TODAY. I bet you heard the one I heard, the Kroger holiday commercial? They actually used Colbie Caillat's version that just released a few weeks ago, which suspiciously sounds JUST like this version. I far prefer this one, wished they used Kina's instead, but I'd like to think without this cover, Colbie wouldn't have made her take on it that Kroger ended up using. That's me trying to find the silver lining lol.

I remember when I was little, my family and I would always go to NYC, and when we would drive back home to Long Island, late at night, my parents would play this song on the car while my sister and I would be half asleep. This song brings me back to so many good memories 😂
If you were "little" three years ago, my Mom instincts tell me you're still likely pretty darn young. Absolutely no hate whatsoever is meant by that! I would give anything to be a kid again. Now, especially having four kids, the most important advice I could EVER give to a child or teenager is to PLEASE do all that you can to enjoy your youth, and do ANYTHING you can not to rush into adulthood. There are perks to being an adult, but I promise you, the stress and responsibilities strongly outweigh the perks. Not to say adulthood sucks, but I'm willing if you took a survey, most adults would want to be kids again if given the chance. Enjoy childhood before it slips away! ✌🏻💚🕯️

Can I just say that I appreciate the existence of this cover so much. This is literally the best song I’ve ever heard and for some reason this sonh/cover makes me so emotional every time I hear it. I’ve never had that before. I always thought I didn’t have any feelings until I found this song/cover. I just don’t get it. Why am I so emotional rn. Nothing bad happened. Wow. It’s just amazing.
I know I'm responding wayyy after the fact, but I've been in places like you were. For me, I fall into depressions (or when I was in active addiction or other mental health/medical circumstances, etc) sometimes that are so low that I don't even feel sad. In those times, I don't feel ANYTHING. Numbness. And to quote another song by Three Days Grace, "I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all."
I don't know you, your age, your life, your circumstances... I'm just a stranger on the internet. But if nothing else, I'm honest and open. I've made enough mistakes and dealt with enough bullshit that I hope that maybe my rambling might help at least just one person. When I've been numb, and suddenly actually feel something real, it usually equates to me being a sobbing hot mess, whether it's happiness, sadness, anger... It's a breakthrough for me that reminds me, "HOLY SHIT! I actually AM still alive. I'm not a soulless nothing." And that alone usually gives me enough hope to seek something else to make me feel alive. I could be completely wrong. But try it out and reassure yourself it's healthy to feel. Allow it and seek it. Hoping things have and/or will improve for you.
