Sergei Polunin is a Ukrainian-born ballet dancer. Famous for his "once every hundred years" talent, he has incredulous elevation and impeccable technique. From an early age, he displayed glorious dramatic range. Home videos of him as a tiny boy improvising to Pavarotti are very foretelling. At age 19, he became the Royal Ballet's youngest ever male principal dancer.
Ballet gained an unprecedented new awareness when he danced in Hozier's viral video "Take Me To Church." People who would never
have paid any attention to ballet began to watch the tattooed phenom. He is generally attributed with bringing ballet to the modern common man. Classical, yet cutting edge, Sergei starred in Diesel's "Make Love Not Walls" campaign and has put his mark on many other promotions.
Sergei is a much sought after model and actor. Fashion designers love his breathtaking physique and brooding good looks. He has garnered only positive reviews for his acting. His appearances include Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of the Orient Express, the biographical documentary Dancer, The White Crow, and Red Sparrow.

Sergei was and still is an inspiration to thousands around the world. Such brilliance cannot be contained within a ballet company.Such an artistic soul cannot be restricted to instruction. As we write he is dancing and thrilling his audiences in far flung theatre halls with his dynamic presence,impeccable technique,and emotional expression. How lucky are those who can see this dancer on stage. Thank you for this video!

I really love the videos that show Sergei in rehearsal and backstage. His movement onstage is so fluid, elegant and mesmerizing that I for one tend to take for granted the hours and hours AND HOURS of work and pain each jump has required to bring it to such perfection. Consider the Herculean effort required to fling your body high up in the air, execute some fancy step while appearing to float, and descend back to Earth, landing with a soft plié precisely in fifth position. Truly poetry in motion. His partnering is exquisitely elegant and courtly, always taking gentle but solid care of his ballerina. Thank you for posting this, and of course merci mille fois, dear Sergei.
precisely!! you hit the nail on the head. ballet dancers are told over and over and over if the audience can see the effort onstage, y ou need to work harder in class lol

None of my business, of course, but I am just hoping that Sergei and Elena stay together and give their kiddos the solid foundation in life that Sergei never had.

Actually, I was moved by the video, Pam, I even took a couple of tears while watching. It is beautiful for me to see all that work, that display of body and soul that is necessary for that fire to occur on stage, I consider it so valuable, that if they gave me a legir, I would prefer to see them in all the trials , although I was deprived of seeing them afterwards on stage. The rehearsals are the alchemical laboratory for me. Congratulations Pam, may God bless you for all your wonderful work

Yes, and it must be so exhausting to take time almost every time to cover it all... (hands, shulders, torso, stomach ... ). Strange thing to do it in such a classical job. I love bodies without tattoos more as well.

i agree! I was so excited to be able to show just what goes into the final presentation. Nothing just happens... each step, each split second is rehearsed and rehearsed until muscle memory begins to play a part. Only then is the mind and heart free to add the emotional nuances that transform a piece from something pretty to look at into a full blown experience.

An absolutely beautiful person and outstanding ballet artist. Just curious what prompted or led him into getting a number of tattoos. Was this as a means of providing or enhancing his art expression or to satisfy a personal desire? He is such a physically beautiful person without them. This is not a criticism, just something that would be interesting to learn.

You are quite welcome, glad you like my video! And no worries for asking... this was in 2012. He had recently left the Royal Ballet and was in Russia trying to make a name for himself. Needless to say, he did! He won the entire competition.
