Went 2-1 with heavy quaquaval and rabsca gaming. Lost because gouging fire incinerated my poor bugs :(( but as always prereleases are super fun and I managed to get some friends who dont play ptcg to come along with me and participate. This vid definitely helped letting me know what to expect!! Greatly appreciated you uploading this, its the best prerelease coverage on youtube imo.

I just managed to win mine with quaquaval rabsca. Rabsca is really powerful and allows checkmate situations because you can get to the end of your deck real quick with quaquaval, research and explorers guidance. Great vid!
Thats awesome, congrats! The rabsca kit looked pretty strong! Having one shot potential for one energy is CRAZY! The other kits needing multiple turns to charge up attackers it's a tough kit to keep up with in the prize race 😅
I came third with the same deck. The biggest issue with the deck is it requires you to run your deck down. If your opponent has a good start then they will take all their prizes before you’re even able to get your deck down enough.
@@sambrown770 the game I lost, my opponent had already taken 3 prize cards before my deck was small enough. By that time they already had enough to finish the game regardless. My bulky snorlax’s were useless because of koraidon, Quaquavel didn’t hit enough to take any of the strong single prize basic attackers they had.
Definetly makes it tricky if your opponent gets that well set up before you. What big basics were they using quaqaval struggled with? I can get koraidon dealing with snorlax after they using a gouging fire, but that's only one big attack and then it goes back to doing its base damage. Did you not get the chance to hit their gouging fires?
I had the magneton promo with wo-chien at my pre-release and had duskball instead of night stretcher. Really love this video wish I had it before my pre-release :D
Got my pre release yet today so excited for it my first ever event I only got back into Pokemon recently I hope I get the gouging fire deck but anythings great

This is crazy, I recently started getting some interest in the game, I’m nervous to go but might see if I go with some friends to try this out, I don’t expect to win but it’ll be fun to start collecting them . I will say I’m scared I’ll either be too old (28) or too slow since I might take a while to understand some cards
Idk about your store, but my last prerelease had people in their 30s and 40s. Parents would often sign up with their children, it was pretty cool. If youre worried about playing too slow, try to familiarize yourself with the cards in advance so you already know what they do when you are at the event.
I'm 32 and play, don't stress about your age being a factor. If it's something you think you'll enjoy give it a go! 😀 You can also always just get a few kits for you and your friends and do a mini tournament as a games night though as an alternative. My partner and I would do that during Covid, it'spretty fun! . . . Plus you can have silly sodas while you play that way too 🤫🍻 Also don't stress about wins, just focus on having fun it's a very casual format with nothing on the line 😀
@@TripleBtcg alright so, headed out to the prerelease nearby today! It was so much fun, it’s my first time collecting cards irl and the community there was super welcoming and patient haha. I went 2-2 with the unfortunate pull of the INDEEDEE promo lol It was a fun time and definitely would do it again! I’ll probably start a master collection of this set as it’s the first one I’m collecting from but thanks again to you and others for the words of encouragement and the video itself to understand how the cards kinda work!
Flygon Ex was a match winner to include if you pull it. One energy, 130 damage hitting fighting type, tanky 310HP and free retreat after the attack to avoid giving up 2 prizes. Epic
@@TripleBtcg stage 2 so was tough to get going, but comes out as a surprise later in the match when you get the right pieces together for the win. Its a super interesting card that people might take forward as fighting is hitting plenty for weakness, one energy and you get the free retreat before the next attack. Can create some super sneaky moves!
@TripleBtcg I really did. I did top cut but I know I'd have gone further with the Magneton group. Managed to take out the one guy running Black Kyurem ex 😂
Hey thanks for the super helpful Video! :) Im windering if Pikachu ex is that good in the Prerelease since the ability will rarely come up with few pokemon in the format being able to one shot it at all. And then the attack is kind if costy and hitting for a number which is more then overkill for most targets so i dont see how ur getting good value from that card in a Prerelease Don't you think?😊
Youre welcome! 😀 The pikachu is pretty situational for pre-release. It's a great closer or to use into other decks running exs as a way to take a one shot. Into a single prize match up, it's not really worth it.
That's awesome, I hope you have a great time and that this video has taken off some of the pressure of the deck building process! 😀 Would love to hear how it goes for you ❤️
Ya this is just a rough guide of what's in them as stated in the video, this is based off a small sample size of kits and the trainer cards seem to be slightly random from a small pool of cards: ultraball, nest ball, lucky helmet, switch, drayton, proffessors research, lacey, artazon all seemed to be cards that can be interchangeable in the groups. Surfer, mela, rare candy, buddy poffin, and the special energies seem to be staric cards in the respective groups though
I won my prerelease yesterday, not many players this time, but we take these, its my first win lol. Gouging Fire/quaquaval carried hard. If you get more surfers and lisia's appeal from boosters, you dont even need an ex or ace spec, went toe to toe with someone who managed to play hydreigon with tatsugiri and still got the W
Ya the risk/reward of exs is pretty risky for pre-releases with how limited the energy acceleration is and some of the awkward attack costs they've got. Hydreigon is a scary one with the first attack only needing 2 energy, on shotting single prizers, and taking 3 hits from most pokemon in the kits while also milling you while charging up an attack to potential take 3 kos 😅 Glad to hear you were able to take them down! 🔥
I won my prerelease with the magnetom and gouging fire deck. I had a latias ex to loop the gouging fire and koraidon. It was too op and was able to take down everything. The only game I lost was when latias was prized
yesterday i played at a 16 people prerelease tournament and made the first place. My promo card was chien-pao (pretty useless in prerelease, you can cut that card out) paired with gouging fire. Never played against a magneton paired deck, but against the other decks in any pairs. That psychics promo is the worst and its pretty hard to handle for new player the win condition with wo-chien double knockout. Quaquaval > all in prerelease. honorable mention in my deck is klefki with the "stick'n'draw" attack which is pretty nice in that prerelease format. Most attacker need 3 energys and until that you can draw with it pretty well.
That's awesome congrats! Also ya agree with the call of cutting chien-pao I did the same, there's some stadiums in the set but realistically none are that impactful against you that you'd need to bump them outside of maybe gravity mountain effecting quaqaval 🤷♂️ Plus the attack cost is a bit awkward to get going. The indeedee kit cam definitely be tricky for new players to manage needing to effectively self mill yourself to 3 cards then close out the game before you deck yourself out. In the right hands though it's a really solid deck and if you get it with quaqvals I'd arguably say it's the best combination as rabsca can take OHKO's for one energy and if you keep a large handsize quaqval can keep you from decking out just putting a card back into your deck then not drawing if you have 5 or more in hand while also helping you thin your deck to get the additional damage with rabsca.
As in play at the event or played previously? A lot of people use pre-release as a way to get into the game, you don't need any previous experience playing. If you mean you just want to buy the kit for the cards technically yes you can go to a prerelease wait to get the kit then just leave. Just let staff know you want to drop from the event so they don't pair you against someone then that person doesn't have an opponent as most people do attend to play and it sucks having a round where you don't get to. You can also often buy the spare kits after the events started but that varies store to store on their policy
Realistically if you get the magneton deck, and manage to get enough things of a second type to make the energy worth, you can run it, but this mostly single prize format is rough for pikachu since it discards all energy attatched
With the pikachu you'd likely want 12-14 energy so your odds of finding them is higher and you shouldn't miss an attachment for turn ever letting you manually charge it up once and then using magneton to use it additional times. It's a bit of a risky one to focus on though as you need to discard all the energy and will likely have to attack 4 times into single prizers. So while it's a great card it's more of a closer for games or to take out other exs, shouldn't really lean into it as the main focus for a deck in pre-release due to the attack cost, discarding, and it's low hp making it easy to two hit. As an example gouging fire could use its first attack hitting you for 30 then the following turn if they can get 2 more energy with power glass after the attack and attaching the following turn use the second attack taking 2 prizes before you ever manually charge up. If you used magneton to charge it up you'd be giving them a prize then likely have to do that again giving up another prize so even though pikachu is alive you still end up down 2 prizes and likely only take 2 in the process so if your opponent can get a few hits in you'd end up losing. Sorry if this replies a bit long winded just waking up lol Doesn't mean it's not a great card! There's just the risk reward factor to be mindful of and proper prize mapping when using it. Having grass and lightning in the attack means it would pair amazingly with either the magneton or rabsca group to use them as your other attackers and likely run a 4-4-4 energy split if you want pikachu as the focus or if you're using the rabsca/magnetons having them for early game attackers makes it better to lean into their energy more so something like 6-8 of their energy then 2-3 of the other two would be better upping the odds of finding the right energy to attack earlier.
