Hi doctor and everyone...
My brother (Age 23) has been suffering from SI Joint and Ankle joint pain and inflammation since August 2020. When we consulted orthopaedic he told us to take blood tests ESR, CRP, CBC, LFT, HLAB27 and ANA Profile.
On September We had taken these tests and Resulted ESR - 65, CRP - 29, WBC - 15k+, LFT- Normal, HLA B27 and ANA Profiles are Negative.
After results doctor said that it is Inflammatory arthritis and probably AS.
He has been taking medications since september and no better improvements. Now he is having pain in Neck, Shoulder back too. Last month we consulted Rheumatologist and doctor advised to take SAAZ 1gm twice a day, dolocam DT once a day, Sompraz once a day and Folitrax and Folvite weekly.
Are we in correct treatment? Pls help me

Just want to know how safe is Biologics for 65 years age person, whose neck is fused, As old people are more prone to infections.
Can take if required. As compared to young warriors they are more prone but that does not mean biologics cannot be taken.

Isme paralysis nahi hota hai. AS agar control me na rakha jaye to dard aur pith ka zukav, hips ka fusion ho sakta hai. Saaz se bhi kafi warriors acche hote hai. Rheumatologist ko barabar dikhate raho. Woh guide karenge.

I am taking Minocycline and Indomethacin how long can I stay on this? Please confirm
Minocycline does not have much evidence in AS & is not a part of any standard guidelines. I would opt in favour of Sulphasalazine

In AS, this would mean fusion. Fusion would mean advanced disease & can lead to forward bending. Do see a rheumatologist if you are not seeing one. Start with regular back exercises asap.

Lumbar spondylosis is unlikely to be the cause of SI joint marrow edema.

No. It does not cause impotency. It can reduce the sperm count. this is generally reversible & settles once the medicine is stopped.

fusion of spine can be fixed by surgery?
No. fusion cannot be reversed by surgery. Surgery is done if the fusion is compressing a nerve or the spinal cord.
