Unforgiving-
The sea is called unforgiving as it stormed tossed and full of danger.
Darkening sea-
Portrays the unwelcoming nature of the waters which through several hurdles for the third ship to surmount. It may also referred to the unknown and unexplored water traversed by the ship.
