@yumpladukfoo Well in my 30+ years being around the breed i have noticed that they will stand facing up wind with their head titled up the air and their nostrils flaring to pick up a scent. While walking them they would stand still looking at a cat or a wild rabbit ready to sprint after it when i had them in a leash. Once they’re past the puppy stage, it shouldn’t be a problem staying alone for eight hours, but be prepared for a few hours of active playtime after you get home. The black and white look very much like my dog. Only the tail is different. He’s definitely not a basenji, he’s a rescue from Spain. And he barks, although not much, he prefers to whimper and squeak. But he can’t sing.
@@BasenjiAdventures no from Amersfoort. Chosen to be the European City of the Year, just last month. But it’s not that far from Amsterdam, 50 minutes by train. And when you loved Amsterdam, you also would love Amersfoort. It’s more medieval and very romantic.
@@jannetteberends8730 I see. I think I meant to say the Netherlands instead of Amsterdam. That would be like someone assuming I am from say, Iowa specifically instead of the more general United States. 🤭 That does sound like an amazing place to visit. We were in Amsterdam because we had a cruise that left from there so we weren't able to explore very far, but if we ever make it back to the area we definitely want to try to get out from that area a little bit more and see other cities in the area.
No barking at all! They are really barkless! I love dogs but living in an apartment, cant afford a barking dog. They are very beautiful and smart too. I need a puppy now!
True that they don’t bark. However they can make some noise. Check out this video to hear what they can sound like. 🤗 Let me know what you think. ua-cam.com/video/b0vyqjUCJ6s/v-deo.html
Just so you know, ours only did that when we encouraged them to, with the exception of when we first got them and left them alone. They had a bit of separation anxiety for a while, but once they got used to being alone they were fine. 😊
And even though they are fairly perfect for an apartment, they aren't couch potatoes and require loads of exercise and are the second hardest dog to train, so they're pretty much like cats in their difficultly to teach.
Before you get a Basenji please read the book “So you think you want a Basenji “. This booklet will open your eyes! Even though my husband is a dog trainer and had researched the breed for over a year we got the book. Also, you need to find a reputable breeder. A good breeder will interview you about your home and your lifestyle because a good breeder won’t sell a Basenji to an unknown buyer.
@@BasenjiAdventures Even the ones who go into the water are very wary of it. Probably because it's in their DNA to fear it due to water being a place that many species, including those unseen, congregate. They don't want to be eaten by a croc or other species. They're just very cautious in water environments. They don't have the same ability in water environments.

a quiet place :D
A fun place! 😁🐕🐕🐾🐾
The black and white look very much like my dog. Only the tail is different. He’s definitely not a basenji, he’s a rescue from Spain. And he barks, although not much, he prefers to whimper and squeak. But he can’t sing.
Very cool! What's his name? 😊
@@BasenjiAdventures Santo. But he also listens to konijntje. That’s Dutch for little rabbit.
Nice! Are you from Amsterdam? My wife and I visited there a few years ago and we loved it!
@@BasenjiAdventures haha, great! I guess I am back to the idea of adopting a cat instead :)
Самая моя любимая порода собак. ♥️
наш любимый тоже!
I'm afraid to let my dogs near the water living in FL.
Understandable. That lake was safe though. People go in it too. It's far enough from the Everglades to be free from gators. 🐊 😁
My two Basenji HATE water XD
christian karlsson Some do. 🤗
I never thought of it that way... sounds reasonable though. 😊
They are going to sleep good tonight..
I love how they play chase but they aren't chasing anything. Zipping around like a lion is chasing them. Pssst. there is no lion guys.
They’re chasing each other. 😊
@@BasenjiAdventures Not really. When they catch up and surpass each other it's hilarious. When you are chasing something and you catch up--there is catching. Basenjis just like the running part. It is funny.
That’s true -they just like to run!
South Florida......hope someone is making sure there aren’t any ‘gators in that water!
Don’t worry. It’s an inland man-made lake that isn’t near any natural bodies of water for gators to get into it. 😊
@@BasenjiAdventures.....thanks for the reply. I had my precious Benji the Basenji for over 15 years and never let him anywhere near the water’s edge here in Florida.
That’s usually wise. 😊
i have never seen a fat basenji until this video 1:16 (red basenji)
We once met one that was 35 lbs!
My basenji kofi is My best friend
My Basenji hates water...
They are very cat-like. 🤗
hunting game lol
Oh yeah. They had a blast!
Aww that one fat one... Hope they got him to a healthy weight after seeing all the other fit dogs.
Alligators ugh
I don’t believe they’ve ever had a problem there with gators.
Eles não gostam de água 💦 Kkkkkkkk!
Verdade!🤣
