  • The GMB bullying and harassment scandal involving General Secretary Gary Smith has reached new depths with the emergence of new audio recordings, made public in this video.
The recording of a telephone call makes clear that, on top of bullying and harassing a woman to drop her complaint over serious sexual harassment and abuse by a fellow GMB member, the General Secretary got a GMB official to ring the woman, effectively asking her to name her price for a settlement to leave the union.
And now, in response to the woman bravely speaking out about her treatment, the GMB leadership's response is to try to discredit the woman and accuse her of lying - exactly the treatment Claire Laycock received when she spoke out about abuse in the TSSA, and sadly the treatment of so many women who have tried to do something about the toxic culture in too many of our trade unions.
The people responsible for all this are a disgrace to our movement - and need to be held to account before they do any more damage.

Not shocked by this at all.
