7 years but less of 400 views for this excellent work of art... one of the best videos I've seen since youtube exists... and you are wonderful!!! Cursed human species!!!
Thank you so much for watching and that's an amazing compliment to receive. Thank you very much! The film did get a wider audience through some festivals and other screenings and on my Vimeo account. I didn't use this youtube channel much until recently so it doesn't get pushed out into any UA-cam algorithms much then. I'm trying to upload some more things on here this year. :)
One minute I'm watching Nick Drake covers and the next I stumble upon stuff like this... Really makes you ponder about all the small obscure gems of artistry out there in the cyberspace world, hidden away in ones and zeros on some harddrive in a serverroom somewhere. Anyway, really cool short film!
Ahw thank you, that's very nice to hear that my little cover brought you to find my film and that you enjoyed it. I've not done much with my UA-cam channel for many years. This was my graduation film and I've since mostly focused on my animation work but in the online world it mostly exists on my website, and some on Vimeo and Instagram (I was still used to UA-cam's compression not always being the best place to host visual works, but hey times have changed a bit) Music has mostly existed in my bedroom lately, trying to make more time to get back to it and may try to post some more on here too. Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you so much for your kind feedback and for stopping by to watch this older short film. Glad you liked it! My animation work is online in more places but has been mostly commissioned work. I'm trying to bring more of my own art and music to this channel this year.
Thank you very much. This was my graduation film from 9 years ago, I have been working in animation since, and now trying to make some more time and space for music again as well..
I loved the Nick Drake cover and your original song. This short film is charming too. You are extremely talented. I look forward to seeing more of your work. It brightens what is, at the moment, a rather dark world.
Thank you so much for your kind and positive feedback, that means a lot. The world can seem rather dark indeed. Life's been pretty dark at my end too lately. But the darkest night skies also reveal the most and brightest of stars... It means a lot to know these little works of art and music could bring some brightness. You also just brought some brightness into my world, thank you!
@@roosmattaar4667 I am sorry to hear that things have been a little dark for you recently. I hope that proves a temporary phase. I have been reflecting upon creatures that live in the greatest depths of the ocean, where they cope with immense pressure and perpetual darkness. In response they have developed a miraculous adaptation: they generate their own light. In these dark times we must all learn to do the same. You already are. Your art is a source of light, illuminating the lives of others. Long may that continue.
@@paulwilson4565 Thank you, I don't know what to say, but this is beautiful to hear. And I agree, it is important to learn to generate it from within, and spread and share that light, whilst not allowing it to get completely swallowed by someone else's darkness, and sometimes spend the time facing the darkness in order to generate new light.. Bioluminescense is fascinating I agree! Nature really is incredible. It's always the biggest source of inspiration. I tried to create a luminous jellyfish puppet once... (finding a way to control all its tentacles was quite challenging though) There's a music video I co-directed about finding the light from within, that I don't have on my channel here but it's on the band's channel if you look for 'DNA/The keys - Walk The Moon' here on youtube.
Nice Project ! Is amazing how you implemented Chroma key with Stop Motion Animation, really love the bird´s armature setting! I´d love to learn how to make it
Sorry I clearly wasn't checking my UA-cam channel much over the last few years, so a very delayed thank you, and I hope you've had a chance to learn and try more things yourself in the meantime as well.
@@roosmattaar4667Hey there! Well, my career took a different path, but did a pre-production on stop motion. But my love for this artistry will never die!
if it wasn't for your cover of a Nick drake song i would have missed this gem! It is poetic and well done! since i am a curious man i was wondering if there is any real "stop motion" recording in this or if it is just computer graphic that is mimicking the stop motion
Hello, thanks so much for stopping by and for your kind words! All of the animation is completely handmade stop motion animation. This was my graduation film from about 9 years ago. I had created the metal armature from scratch building all the parts and it was animated frame by frame for the film. The set is a miniature built from wood and various other bits. The only computer part is where I combined all the different elements into one, compositing the live action part of myself acting into the backdrop photography of the miniature set and matching it with the scale and animation of the animated bird. The only computer element would be the cloud bits in the sequence outside and some digital lighting effects to enhance and better blend together the real world elements. There is some further behind the scenes of the making of the puppet, set and the filming process on my website: www.roosmattaar.com (I should probably add this to and update the description of the video from 7 years ago!)
@@roosmattaar4667 my hat's off to you! Some "limitations" in the video are visible but as a whole stop motion work it is wonderful! Greater then many other "graduation" works! I am not an expert but i love stop motion filming and i have seen a bunch, through my life, and this is pretty good! Thanks a lot for sharing!!! I'll check your site for sure! 😉
@@yccmzimmy Thank you! Haha, oh yes I am very aware of each and every 'limitation' every time I watch it back now ;) but doing everything myself with limited experience I did the best I could at the time. I'm glad you liked it and I hope you can enjoy further works on my website, and can appreciate some improvements over the years ;) and where and when I was able to hire much more talented and skilled people to deal with the parts where my skills and experience are lacking. Most other work are commissioned works, I'm trying to work towards the opportunity of creating another film of my own hopefully later this year, but we will see... Hence turning back to music in the meantime, which is less time, money and resource demanding to continue expressing in other ways..
@@roosmattaar4667 I am sure you improved along time, I will watch but the starting point already shows a lot of capabilities limited just by budget or experience: but the real deal was already there! Keep going!
