Rusty Vintage Pepperbox - Restoration

- This is the restoration of a beautiful Pepperbox made by Stocking & Co. In 1840.
I've been incredibly lucky and I got it almost for free... it was in a bucket full of rusted tools and screws at a Community Garage Sale.
I was trying to keep its original look and finish where it was possible, this piece is almost 180 years old so don't expect any crazy shiny results. Have a look and let me know your thoughts!
A great job, absolutely 👍👍👍
I' m a military historian and interested in "ancient" firearms. You turned a "piece of junk" into a collectable beauty..... greetings from northern germany and thank you for sharing it with everyone who likes to see a piece of history being preserved.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I am always impressed with the work and sensibility that you restore perfectly without losing the original texture. I feel like I was saved when I see that the cat saved by you is totally reliant on you. May God bless you in your kindness. Thank you very much.
That's because you know nothing about restoration. But then, neither does he, or he wouldn't call his meatball surgery "restoration."
it was necessary to make a test shot from a pistol.
@@mzmadmike Where are your non "meatball surgery" restoration videos? Mike...
@@mzmadmike explain to me why it's a "meatball surgery"
Wonderful restoration. Even better sense of humor with QM and Sugar!
Thanks for preserving the original details. Most of the restoration videos, replace most of the original parts and polish, polish , polish and polish.... to make the artifacts shine and remove tones of metal.
Everytime when someone polishes my heart goes like .... NO PLEASE !!!!!
Thank you soo very much for your sensibility. You know how to restore and save the artifacts from old times.
I’m so glad you’re going into the firearm genre of restorations, no-one else does these vids like you do. Can’t wait to see what you’re going to do next!
Rust bluing was a good call. I would have looked for another cap/nipple guard rather than making one. It retains value that way better, but I get it if the parts are scarce
Excellent work; I admire a craftsman who knows the difference between gentle restoration and destructive refinishing.
Love it when animals are a part of one’s life and I enjoy your restoration skills. Very talented young man. Stay awesome.
What an incredible find. Once again, you did a great job restoring it. Cheers!
I’ve binged on your videos and think they are great, you are a true craftsman and wonderful person, good to see QM and Sugar doing so well 😊
I did get something out of that. Thanks. I've played around with double drop D before. And now I'm inspired.
I really appreciate the fact that you took care not to over-restore this. Some people want to turn every single piece into something that looks brand new, instead of leaving some pieces to look as if it's just a really old item in good condition. Nice work.
STUNNING restoration. You preserved all that could be preserved and transformed what looked like a piece of junk into a fine antique.
Just love when you upload a new video, such excellent work as usual.
Beautifully done, when I was 15 (1973) I found a gun like the one you restored in this video, I was up in the Sawtooth mountain range in south-central Idaho, I was hiking, and rock climbing in a place called City of Rocks. The Peppermill gun I found was at the base of granite rock that was 6 stories tall that the miners in the area called the "Tower" the gun I found was not in any way as good as shape as your find. Seeing this video brought back that memory of that day in that place, Thank you for putting up this vid.
I love this video . 40 bucks and you now have a museum quality piece easily worth a grand . Beautiful restoration on the pepperbox , pony and Alex !
Happy Fathers Day Andre and all the best .
I'm glad there are still lots of great restoration channels like this one. I despise some of the newer channels where they just bury a new toy car in a garden and pretend it's some antique masterpiece.
Nice sympathetic restoration, I felt. Nice that you went to the trouble of keeping as much of the original finish by converting the rust! Good work! Lovely to see Sugar and Alex looking so happy and relaxed :D
I love your videos I am weirdly fascinated with old guns I could watch your videos for days thank you
I really wish I could've gotten into something like this. Could use a good hobby or different profession. Love your work as always and I am glad to see the cat again. :)
Yes I was going say the same thing you can find some old and crusty and bring it back to life.
Just start out with a few tools and the collection will go from there I have a grinder with many attachments that's just one tool that has mutable purposes. Sand, grind, buff.
I thought it ran away after i saw the pony
I would love to do restore some pieces of my military collection, but I have a feeling I'll break something.
@@reecewood155 start with something you don't really care to much about and see how it comes out. You might surprise yourself.

An older gentleman once told me that denture cleaning tablets can remove rust from older firearms. Surprisingly enough, he was right!! Saved me loads of time on my 1851 revolver!!
That is interesting. Does it just remove rust or does it attack the finish as well and take it down to bare metal?
@@MikeM10293 It WILL remove the older types of bluing used on most reproductive firearms! How effective this is really depends on how many tablets you use initially.
@@mangamaniaciam well that definitely takes it out of the equation for mild rust removal on otherwise good guns. It does seem like a great way to remove very heavy rust where there is no finish left. I could have used your tip when restoring my .38 revolver that looked like it was buried in the ground for 100 years haha.
@@MikeM10293 Using denture tablets is one of the reasons why I have two re-bluing kits! I used them for my Army San Marcos 1851 revolver. Worked GREAT for the cylinder! Got the rusted in place nipples removed and replaced them with stainless steel ones.
My Man ..., you made that restoration look so easy , if I had to restore that gun , it would be crushed alone with the other cars at the junk yard , lol , excellent work .
there's a couple words I have to say either the gun was in perfect condition and he left in the rain for maybe a year to make this project or he actually found this.

Excellent video. You did very well resoration of it whithout loose its originality. Every parts you removed & throughly cleaned without looking manual. Then fit it back where it should be.
Really glad I found this channel. Always gives me a smile! Great job 👍
Don`t know if I`m more impressed by your restoration skills or that your cat drinks Tullamore Dew 🇮🇪 🤩
Awesome restoration and very entertaining video. After watching several of your restoration videos and giving them a thumbs up, I have now subscribed and hit the bell!!
It never ceases to amaze me how Andre has no problems in removing rusted screws!!!
Another magic restoration. Thanks for sharing Andre -- nice to know u have good supervision to back you up. Give a pet to QM and a lump for Sugar. Love yer vids. Rock on
Nice result and great junk box find. I’d love to see it fired, but obviously it’s not feasible given the age and condition. I love the way it’s restored just enough to keep its original look.
Beyond impressed, that is a beautiful piece of work.
This is one of the best restorations that I have seen. It came out surprisingly nice.
Absolutely love it !!!!! Awesome beautiful work !!!!!
I watched your video on restoring that colt rifle and has been mesmerized since...i love your animal friends too...theres something wonderful about a cat man!...You do great work with so much precision and detail!
You must have quite a collection, she's a beauty. As for QC hats off to them!
I agree with you on preserving originality as much as possible thats where its worth is at this point
This rust blueing is darn cool.
I have to keep that in mind :)
Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you for doing that right. I've seen "restoration" videos that would make you cringe. I mean high speed buffing wheels, grinders etc. You have done the most professional gun restoration on UA-cam I have ever seen. That pepper box came out beautiful!
I like that you are careful when restoring. Some UA-camrs just polish everything to a mirror finish. And happy to see QM doing well!
Stunning job on the pistol, and, Yay! Sugar the rescue pony finally made a cameo in a video! The video ending was a very clever surprise. I look forward to seeing the pistol being fired!
One demanding quality control team.
That is the quality job, wish you all the best. This thing turned out to be like new. I love your restoration!!
Love watching your videos... love your skill and attention to detail!!!
Stresses me when you take all the little screws and parts off, but I am amazed that you know where and how each little part and screw goes back to. Amazing restoration Andre; I so look forward to your videos. Thank you.
Lol that cat tho... Good job on fixing that resolver gun
He restored the cat as well
There's a video on his channel about him healing the cat
Wow I can't believe you got that for 40 bucks!!!! Awesome
The gun is from the armoury of Warwick Castle, and was once the property of The Earl Of Warwick, hence the tiny embossed familial crest.
I would imagine it could tell a number of interesting stories.
That is a great looking gun!!!!! Great restoration!!!
the horse looks fine and the kitty too 😎👍 a nice restoration, as usual
Kon kon sa parts lgaeo Bhai

I so enjoy your documentation of the restoration work you do..
thank you . You do such good work.
Wow! I'd say 40 bucks well spent, i need to find the garage sales you go too haha
I think the amazing part was that you remembered where all those parts went. Bravo sir.
I follow the cat! Vacation for EVERYONE!
The best video of restoration!!
Your Quality Control team is pretty strict! No wonder they have time off!! Lol!!
Nice piece! Good work! Yes, I would carry this in my frock coat pocket for sure. I await your demonstration video!!!
This video was awesome man I love it and I love the kitty cat too she is very beautiful the whole video which is wonderful to watch love your content keep coming your pal Ashley
While I'm watching the video I'm just questioning why I can't find cool stuff like this.
Really nice. Saved some history.
Excellent job as always! I really enjoy watching your videos.
LOVE ANYTHING cap and ball - it's like shooting sculpture
Nice find and excellent restoration, and just when I was getting use to the cat tax you had to up the ante and put in horse tax. Love them both, great helpers!
Geez, I'd like to go to yard sales that have vintage firearms. Beautiful restoration!
Very cool, keep up the good work.
Just amazing work
..WOW..GREAT RESTO..
Wow that really turned out very nice good job well done God bless you
Beautiful work as always,good job.
Not a cat person but I think I can put up with one who likes Irish Whiskey. :)
You do beautiful work. I envy your knowledge, the resources you have and your attention to detail. Keep up the good work.
Nice job restoring it. Have seen others almost as Good and a Few reproductions. They Kick like a Mule btw.

Great to see your rescue animals doing well Andre, you’re a good man.

Wow that's a great garage sale find for 40 bucks! Great restoration job.
Great job restoring stuff... you are so lucky to have found that at a garage sale... I'd love to get into stuff like this and gun smithing... but I'm not so lucky... awesome videos.
Such a good job! And I love the fact that you made the cat part of their restorations.

Beautiful weapon powder shot and rosin and Bawl with cotton and man what A-blast that can put Call and a target easy
Definitely a success this time. Your buddies are looking fine, too. Great job!
Great restore. You got something to be proud of. Take good care of it and pass it on to your kids or someone else who will appreciate it and the work you put into it. Take care.
I'd like to see you fire these rifles and gun's after or even just show the action and pul the trigger. Seeing you fire them would be great. I like watching you work your very skilled....
Who's the daddy .that is a real bit of history to fire it it must be proof tested at proof house in Birmingham or London proof house or gun blows up in ya hands or face 🔫😱🐾🐺👍

@@MrHoleemolee OK but I seen guns blown up because smokeless powder was used in black powder guns its not pretty results 😱🐺🐾🔫
@@anarchyfox325 yeah Brother you're right about that, Never used smokeless pistol powder in a Musket loader.....people have died when double loading with smokeless powder. This hand gun would be fine with the right powder tho.
Wow! great job. I am very impressed to see this video. Amazing!
Nice work my friend cute cat🤣
One of the most fascinating things on u-tube, I would loved to have seen it loaded and fired.
When it cut to the samba and QM chilling in a Frozen chair, I laughed out loud! (PS: sugar looks a completely different horse!)
Brilliant!. Lovely job.

I have always thought that the clue game piece revolver was just a goofy looking revolver game piece. Didn’t know it was an actual gun. Great restoration video. 👍👍
Very nice job!
Boiling rust of in distilled water was new to me, thanks for the trick.
How do they press the bullets in in such a barrel??
Amazing find! Great job bringing back.
Where's the kaboom? There's supposed to be an Earth-shattering kaboom!
If he posts him firing it the video gets demonitized and he won't get any add money to invest in new projects for the channel so he posts that as a separate video so he can still make money on the restoration video
Ah, now I see. Looking forward to it Andre!
@@MastersOfCraftOfficial yea. git some black powder and 30 cal balls and some caps and fire that old dog..lots of smoke, shoot that thing into a phone book, they will no doubt bounce off or never git past page 93.
