I hope you all are having a great Sunday! Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoyed this one - I am big on off-season shopping are any of you? I would love to hear if you all would be interested in an outdoor series next year and if so what would be some of the topics you'd be most interested in - outdoor furniture restoration, deep dive into outdoor furniture materials, outdoor design/space planning, something else? Take care and I hope you are all enjoy the end of summer ♥
Melba, get to work and make some more videos 😂. You have such good taste and good advice! I like your eclectic style too. It’s elevated by not being straight out of an advertisement for Restoration Hardware.
That's amazing Melba! Such an inspiring oasis you have created. :) I've been watching every video you post on your channel & would enjoy seeing how you created your hardscape.
I think your outdoor area is lovely and I would not change a thing. I, too, love teak furniture and prefer the patina weathered look, so I am a bit biased and would say to keep as is. I thoroughly enjoy watching your postings; I have learned so much, so thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful Sunday!
Thank you Mary! I'm also really liking the patina weathered look, I'll be curious how one more season without doing anything will change the look! I'm glad that you have found the videos informative, thank you for sharing that feedback with me. Happy Sunday to you too 🤗
A neighbor put a large wrought iron table and two chairs out with the trash!!! I was walking and it was quite late. I raced home and got my Prius. I fit the two chairs in my car and put a heavy blanket on top of the car. I upended the table and drove home (six blocks) at midnight holding the table in place with one hand while driving with the other. Not smart, but I got it safely home. I sanded it all with an angle grinder, but now the set is gorgeous. I've also found three fire pits on "trash night" while out walking. I raced home and collected them one by one. Two went to friends, and I use one. They're great, and I'm so happy to keep them out of the landfill.
What a great finds, sounds like you did a great job restoring the wrought iron table! Your friends are very lucky - thank you for sharing these stories with us ❤
Melba, yes please make a video on how you did your patio cement. I am moving into a new home and want to create this! Beautiful and calming backyard!! Love it!
I'd love to see that too. I've rebuilt my brick stoop twice in 20 years, and it's a big job. I'd love to see and enjoy your economies of scale in doing a large job on a DIY basis.
Your silvery gray teak wood chairs and bench are perfect! They blend in so beautifully with the trees and nature. I'd say keep them just as they are. You find such amazing deals!!!!
Another great trash day find was a large stack of 2x4s. I knocked and asked the homeowner whether it was building material. The woman said "No, it's trash. Please take it away." I was walking so raced home for my Prius and loaded it with more than 40 boards. It was laboring under the heavy weight. I think the lumber had been in her basement for several years unused. I built six raised garden beds and still have a few boards left. Lucky find!!! I treat my Prius like a truck all the time.
Woohoo on your free 2x4s and amazing that you built six raised garden beds with them! Excellent find 👏 I bet you spent so much time and energy moving each of those 2x4s in and out of your Prius, I hope you are now enjoying the fruits of your labor ❤
Well done! Your background space looks so classy, elegant and well designed! So inspiring and encouraging as I shop secondhand for my own backyard. Thanks so much for sharing!
Yet another great episode. I have been keeping my eye out for teak as well. And I actually love it when it gets silver. When I look at all the Arhaus pix, their outdoor furniture is mostly silver - I really like the look. But whatever you choose to do will be beautiful. Seeing Suki and that adorable kitty was so cute as well. Especially at the end when kitty was sitting so cute on one of the benches. Your videos always make me happy!
What a compliment to hear that the videos make you feel happy! I’m glad that you enjoyed seeing Suki and Ollie (our energetic 1-year old cat) 💕🤗 what piece of teak furniture are you looking for? I hope you find the perfect piece(s)! ✨
@@MelbaMakes I really want some loungers and I confess to loving the idea of either Arhaus or Kingsley Bates. Those KB ones are SUPER expensive and amazingly, are manufactured in the town where I grew up going to school! I’m going to have to watch your video again because I missed the part where you mentioned the things you look out for in terms of craftsmanship. So, if I can’t find the KB or Arhaus ones, just looking out for quality construction is important.
I just took a look at Arhaus and am a fan of their style! Kingsley Bates looks very nice too and like they have a great reputation as a teak manufacturer - so special that you have a connection to where they are manufactured! I hope that you are able to find the pieces you are looking for! 🙏
@@MelbaMakes one last thing - I just want you to know that it is a lovely touch that you take the time to reply to comments here and there. You never disappoint! I love the surroundings of your patio! So green and private. I'm in love with your vintage rod iron outdoor dining set! Love that scrollwork! Anyway, love it all! So inspiring! Thanks!
Thank you so much for giving us tips on fabric and manufacturers. We benefit from your in-depth research. It's also really helpful that you tell us about hits and misses. Thank you!
I'm glad that it was helpful to hear about the fabric and manufacturers! I forgot to mention in the video that for the past couple of years Costco has had Sunbrella seat cushions at a great price and in a couple of different colors (the seat cushions I used in the video for both the iron dining area and the teak chairs are from Costco). I also saw that earlier this Spring Sam's Club had some larger Sunbrella sofa replacement seat cushions. Not sure if either of those options work for you but thought I'd share since I meant to in the video!
I love the look of your backyard! I love teak, too, especially the weathered patina. I think slingback chairs are the most comfortable. It would be very interesting to see how you developed the landscaping. Lighting makes such a difference. You're a great shopper and so patient. I'm too impatient to finish a project. "Good things comes to those who wait" is true. Our youngest grand is three, so it'll be a few more years before we can get rid of the swings, tire swing and jungle gym. That's okay. I'm enjoying every season of life. Take care, Linda 🦋
Hi Linda! 🤗 Its been so fun to hear what you all think about the teak and so far the weathered patina look seems to be the favorite! I agree with you, the slingback chairs are sooo comfy! Thanks for the input on the landscaping video idea and yes yes to your lighting comment! Those little solar spotlights on the fountain in my opinion really changed the vibe in the evenings. I can also be impatient and jump in and out of projects when I get frustrated! aww please enjoy watching your grandbaby have fun on the swings and jungle gym ❤ thank you for sharing with us Linda 🙂
What a beautiful patio and garden! When is the party? I'll bring the Prosecco. Fabulous finds. Your patience and persistence are your best thrifting skills!
Wow, so many amazing finds! I wonder if the teak sitting area would be more cohesive with the heirloom area if the coffee table were sprayed a similar color. Same with the other iron chairs, to pull the different “room” of the space together.
Melba! My Kingsley Bate dream has finally come true! I just bought 4 KB Amalfi Teak Club Chairs and an Amalfi 40” teak square coffee table for $1450 off Mktplc!! The chairs retail for $785 ea before taxes and shipping and the coffee table retails for $805. All this is due in large part to being inspired by you and your finds!!
Woohoo, I’m so excited for you Jana!! 👏🏽👏🏽 I remember I learned about the KB brand from you in this video almost a year ago! 🥹I looked up the style you found, it looks beautiful and what a great deal for the ENTIRE set!! Thank you for sharing with me and the community, it’s so fun to celebrate this awesome find you ❤️❤️I hope you have been enjoying getting it set up in your outdoor space, enjoy!! ☀️🪑🌻
Such a good job! Couple of questions please. 1. Do you have to cover the teak? 2. Do you get storms with wind, in other words how do you protect the brellas. Tia
Thank you! I am in California where winters aren’t too bad (no snow or extreme winds). I have never covered the teak, I have always left them outside in the rain! I do have umbrella covers that I use some winters (I need to be better about that!). For the cantilevered umbrellas I leave them outside with cover and for the middle umbrella used with the table I will probably put it inside the garage because last year it blew away (I should have a base but I don’t haha
