The bars are 1/2" nickel silver. The older ones are the 33cm, the same as the Haff branded K&E Paragon beam compass. The three 33cm pieces are more practical for use. I'm not sure when the 50cm lengths became the standard, but the 50cm lengths are unwieldy for normal use. The feel of this compass is really great, the beams are so nice. Too bad Gunter couldn't find the end piece. Maybe one day you will find a random section of the K&E Paragon somewhere you could use. I have a Riefler version of this compass and it isn't not quite as nice as the Haff version. I love the ting sound when you pull the pieces apart.
The bars seem heavy for nickel silver, but you’re probably right, as usual. Now you’ve got me curious. Maybe I’ll polish a little section and see what is revealed!
@@jasonbrentpresley I'm pretty sure Gunter is the largest tool exporter out of Germany. Many Germans won't sell outside the country, from my experience. I checked the 71/72 haff catalog and at least at that time the bars were matt plated nickel silver.
Well, I did really like one of the 200E sets, but they were more expensive and I just really like the wooden case and the style of the attachments, etc.
Richard, will keep looking on Ebay thanks again.
The joinery of the case would be considered ‘box joints’
Thanks. In the moment I couldn’t think of the right terminology.
Where did you buy the beam was it on the internet or what I really need one?
Richard from Cibolo TX
Yes, I purchased this beam compass on eBay. These larger beam compasses come up for sale every so often. Keep your eyes peeled.

So you know about Gunter, eh? Why am I not surprised?

Damn man! You got one of the big guns! You didn't want to hold out for the 200E?

@@jasonbrentpresley The wooden case is very classy. It was a good choice.
