I went out of my way to figure out what brand this exactly was, and it's Mogu Mogu for anyone curious! The chunks are bits of coco de nato, which is essentially fermented coconut milk that forms a jelly, which is what a lot of countries flavor like lychee and eat as lychee jelly. The drinks are actually pretty good if you can get used to the novelty of jelly cubes in your drink. EDIT: it's also not *_as_* chewy as Tom claims it is. If you've ever had the jelly cubes in a boba drink in place of the boba, it's the same EXACT thing. Like little soft gummy bear cubes lol
These things are really tasty! The solid bits are Nata de Coco which is just jellified coconut water that's essentially just flavored like the drink, super satisfying to chew on and super good! They're really popular in Korea and the SEA regions
@@J3wuigi Yeah it's fermented! Which makes it sound gross, but with coconut water the fermentation produces cellulose, which is what gives it the chewy texture, and it doesn't give it a ferment-y flavour so it still just tastes like coconut
This reminds me of something I had in Japan. It was an udon noodle topping that had the consistency as if someone had spit on your noodles. I had a visceral reflex of not wanting to consume it every time I took a bite… but the taste was absolutely _incredible._ To this day it is still the most mixed food experience I have ever had. Could be natto, or fermented soybeans. Stuff looks like alien slime from a movie but apparently people absolutely love the taste. Some people at least.
@@pwningtoenail Coconut Jelly is what I was thinking of. It has a bit too much bite, to me. Almost like the outside is a skin and the inside is more gelatinous
From the appearance of the label and bottle, I'm guessing that's the drink called "Mogu Mogu". Those cubed shape chewy bits are called "Nata de Coco" or coconut gel. It's just coconut water that has been fermented. There's also a pineapple version. (And it is Mogu Mogu. I just saw the "ogu" part of it when Tom hold it up for the camera)

It's Mogu Mogu. They're made with Coconut Jelly. Coconut Water produces cellulose and turns in to a jelly-like substance when you ferment it. You can do the same thing with pineapple juice.
He literally said its name Nata de Coco its fantastic. Its like a hard jelly that has a slightly more solid consistency and it hardens when bitten. I say hard jelly but for most people in the West I understand that sounds strange. Over here where Nata de Coco comes from we use a kind of seaweed agar to make jelly, not gelatin, so our jelly is more crunchy and doesn't wobble as much.
But Nata de Coco isn’t made with agar (or gelatin). When coconut water is fermented, bacteria cultures produce cellulose. That’s what gives it its jelly-like texture. The same thing happens with fermented pineapple juice.
It's funny what he says about making him of a drink that was left out an had mold grow in it because it fermented coconut water, so he isn't too far off.
The funny thing is that it is basically floaty mold, it's made with nata de coco which is fermented coconut water. Not bad by any means though, I have it every once in a while.
You can get them from Wai Yee Hong in Eastville - they've got a massive range of Chinese drinks and some of the most obscure food & drink you could find.
It's just coconut chunks, they don't taste or have the consistency of coconuts as they have absorbed the juice. I personally love these drinks. Very common in asia.
That weird chewy stuff is aloe vera. I personally love that stuff, but not very often because it is _horrendously_ sweet. I get that it looks somewhat reminiscent of Rizzo's Spectrum Brown though.
I saw some in a shop today got excited to finally try this chewy water, and then had to explain to my friend what it was and why i wanted to try chewy water 😆
That's definitely mogu mogu, by "chewy bits" it has cubes of chewy coconut jelly in it. If you perceive it as the same thing as boba pearls then it isn't gross at all.
On one hand, now I want to try it. On the other hand, I have drank way too much bad milk, and almost drank naturally occurring chewy water before, so solid maybe.
