Angel: O rest in the Lord, wait patiently for Him, and He shall give thee thy heart's desires. Commit thy way unto Him, and trust in Him; and fret not thyself because of evil doers.
Such simplicity, nobility and profound emotion that is the artistry of the great Kathleen Ferrier. Thank you for posting these two great selections.
I am enraptured by the lyrical beauty of Kathleen Ferrier's rendition of these two Mendelssohn arias. Truly heart felt and very prayerful!
I have loved Kathleen Ferrier since the first time I heard her. Phenomenal!
The second aria here--O Rest in the Lord--is one I will never ever forget hearing Kathleen Ferrier sing in a recording played at my high school during the '50s in England. I was 14 or 15 at the time, but the music, her voice, the clarity of her diction and the wonderful text went straight to my soul, time and again. I had no idea at the time that she was already gone from the Earth, because the presence of that beauty was so overwhelming already. If I had known also about her early death, it would have been just too sad. A lovely person, an incredibly rich voice, and such lovely music--it's the most beautiful thing to hear this again, so many decades later. Thank you so much for making it available here.
I first heard the wonderful Kathleen Ferrier at school also (1950's) - we used to listen to a radio programme and Kathleen was singing Blow the Wind Southerly. When the programme was finished our teacher went through the songs we had heard and we all sang them together - but up after Blow the Wind Southerly he asked me to stand up and sing it. I have no idea why. However it is one of my favourite pieces by Kathleen. I wish I could have heard her at a concert.

I heard Kathleen Ferrier sing for the first time on a British 1950’s sitcom “Born and Bred.” It was “O Wait on the Lord.” It captivated me and I sought to find out about her. Not long after Knowledge Network in BC, Canada had a documentary about her. Heartbreaking and beautiful beyond words.
Almost tailor made for the lovely voice of the great Kathleen Ferrier, Magic stuff. Legend is a term used to describe some artists & that really are not. Now Kathleen really is a legend, she has a voice one would recognise & performed such lovely music. Sadly missed.
What comment would ever do justice to the beauty of Kathleen Ferrier's singing ?
This recording was made in 1946, the year of my birth...and I remember being around 12 y.o. when I first heard Kathleen Ferrier...and since then I cannot listen to this voice, of heavenly greatness and beauty, without all my emotins are showing!
I am Danish - and Kathleen Ferrier sang Benjamin Britten´s "Rape of Lucritia" with the Danish tenor Aksel Schiøtts - and she is to this day, frekvently played by the Danish National Radio!

No-one can match Kathleen Ferrier, her renditions are perfect. Why does anyone else bother uploading their version when all of them pale into insignificance alongside Ferrier's.
Le chant de Ferrier a toujours cette grande simplicité et noblesse bien propre à elle outre ce timbre chaud même s'il est peut-être un peu inégal sur toute la voix....mais qu'importe elle offre toujours une profonde joie lorsqu'elle chante....je me sens toujours apaisée enn l'écoutant...
singing never bettered - exactly as the composer wrote it with none of the current fad for artists to "embellish".
