I am a Swansea taxi driver. One day I was carrying a family with young children. I was playing Kathleen Ferrier and I remember a young boy was spellbound by her singing.
Working in Toronto during summer 1975, I found and height tracks cassette of J.S.Bach favorites...And Kathleen was there with this imparable Agnus Dei !... Being "full deeply touched", I cried, but not without a strong desire to learn and sing it ...to be again deeply-divinly transported ! Kathleen amasing, softly trembling voice penetrates each word of this text ! Post-mortem THANKS to Kathleen and Johan-Sebastian!!
Actually, it was your comment on my channel wall requesting something by Kathleen Ferrier that led to my making this video. I've always been very fond of her singing, and I thought an "In Memoriam" video would be a nice addition to my channel. So thank you for giving me the idea.
Najlepsze wykonanie Agnus Dei Bacha jakie znam.
I have known about Ferrier since I was a teenager in the 60s. I still have I think it is Deutsche Gramaphon of her from my father's collection. (He had come to NZ from London before WWII.) I preferred Brahms as a teenager but have grown almost to default to Bach or contemporary music of various kinds. She is for this music. Her voice seems to has that extra depth. She was one of the great singers. Her husband encouraged her to sing.
I’m very fond of her singing. She was taken from us far too soon, but at least she left many wonderful recordings for us to enjoy and appreciate her artistry.
Reminds me of my dear Mum singing Blow the Wind Southerly over the kitchen sink while doing the dishes. She loved Kathleen Ferrier and wept when she died so young...
When I was 10 I was given a biography of Ferrier for young readers , a Sunday School prize ! and it fascinated me. I didn' t hear her voice until I was a young adult and it lived up to expectations... i am still amazed by how how beautiful it is from top to bottom of the range ..no booming or hooting. Its a pity her sister destroyed letters. Wonderful zany sense of humour
What a beaitiful timbre from the Kathleen Ferrier, she seems to match the sound of a Viola with her Contralto voice. What a voice and what a face to quote Marian Anderson the American Contralto.
@@JeffreyStivers E bem verdade, que Kathleen Ferrier (cantora que desconhecia) é uma excelente interprete... que soube honrar a partitura do grande génio JSBach! Muito agradecido pela partilha!

@@TheProms It's always nice to discover singers. Kathleen Ferrier died tragically young at the age of 41 from breast cancer. Fortunately, she left us many wonderful recordings.
Kathleen ferrier was a Christian, a Catholic . She took her faith very seriously , but she had a great sence of fun . Not a sour face . She is my my hero of classical singers because I am a Contralto singer.
@@JeffreyStivers i remember reading about the final Orfeo when I was 20, and was deeply moved. She was a woman of pure inspiration and compassion, all part of her flawless musicianship!
To think their was a time when all the people who lived in your nation knew much of the same music . Some consistency in the social fabric but the sad thing is this music doesn't stop human beings from treating each other beastly . My kind would not have been allowed in many a salon or lieder hall to hear this music . How Anderson did it Icant imagine . What has been lost now that radio music has taken its turn . I can find some news on the radio but no Bach . And Putin is killing journalists and Rump cant stand the sight ogf NorthAfricans in Paris .
Voice of the Firmament, Different time, different style, different approach to performing Bach. Both Scholl and Ferrier are to be treasured, it seems to me. Boult allows the music a spaciousness which it doesn't usually have in today's historically informed performances - a spaciousness which Ferrier is uniquely equipped to exploit . . .
The main difference between Ferrier and Scholl is simply explained. One sings with divine inspiration using a perfectly built instrument and complete vocal freedom whereas the other makes musical noise with a constricted squeak!
I dont agree. She sang a lot of oratorio and was never entirely at ease with opera with its histrionics . Her voice was extraordinary and in the 1940s and 50s singers were not inhibiting vibrato for barock works as is the custom today

Kathleen Ferrier was an amazing singer. I'm glad I was able to you introduce you to her exquisite singing. What a tragic loss that she died so young.
Really so sad ....
Thats true, it is indeed a great loss.Such a wonderful singer, a beautiful voice with so much "darkness"of tone …...

Kathleen Ferrier - quite the most wonderful woman ever created.

A mass is not an opera, her voice is too operatic, Andreas Scholl is the master, a male voice is better for this piece.
