There's a button near the top of the nav screen that lets you toggle the visibility of the "No Wake Zones" too - helpful to see when you can begin to use thrust / plot a long distance course and execute it. I absolutely got intercepted by the po-po when I just barely opened the aperture of my fusion thruster within the wake zone. no touchy until out of no wakey. Can definitely start up the reactor tho. "Thrust Cycle" enables the long range planner to deactivate or activate torch drive thrust in the vicinity of more populated areas. (Chad, thanks so much for this series... my tips are not aimed at you as much as they are things I didn't notice when I tried this on my own.)

I've been waiting for this! Thank you for this enlightening series.
I also have rotational issue (not being able to stabilise it very easily at all) - I thought it was just me being a noob.

When you're trying to cancel your rotation, are you holding the 'r' (stabilize) key till you rotation is stopped? Just tapping the key won't apply a long enough counter thrust to set you to 0. I ask just cause ive never had unwanted rotation, unless I accidentally tap the 'q' or 'e' key.

I am, but perhaps it holding it for long enough.

@@mallikanth1689 I've had similar issues, but in all cases where I checked, I've noticed that my fingers aren't where I expect them to be, so I've made a habit of checking that before I get more confused. I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that my fingers aren't 19, or even 39, any more. ^,^
There certainly might still be some issues with this alpha though, but I haven't noticed anything weird from the R key except at times when I need to change battery on my keyboard.

I think what I'm experiencing is related to lateral movement, as when I cancel that out, the R key behaves as I'd expect.

Been waiting for this one, almost done salvaging all the pieces needed to build my own, and your navigation guide is going to come in VERY handy. Thanks again for these very compact and helpful guides MO Chad!

I noticed you left Core Purge on, you need to turn it of to get the reactor to run at full power, currently it's running rough. Also to recharge your batteries you need set Power Bus to Charge.

Yep. Read the manual and use the reactor startup/shutdown guide. Shutting it down properly (safing it) also keeps some wear down.

... also, the reactor is very efficient at powering the electrical grid on the ship for extended periods of time, even without relying on it for thrust.... I tried taking a good size ship to Venus tonight. With one tank each of coolant/Deuterium/Helium it was going to take 9 days. Ugh. 😅 I'm going to figure how many tanks / cost would make it more viable, because the super fast time thing wasn't working either.

Thanks for that catch! I like to make my videos in a "sweet spot," where I'm not an expert, but also I'm not falling into uncharted waters. I feel this allows some organic discovery without prescribing things for players. I don't always hit that mark. ;)
Apparently in my first (and only successful) trip to Venus, I'd done exactly that at some point--turned it off. I had intended this video to be a single run all the way to Venus, but 3 hours in, I was still running out of fuel (which didn't happen on the maiden voyage). This was indeed the problem. Next vid will start by calling that out.

I believe the O in the game title pronounced the same way you would say ostracized. That's what they are after all astronauts who have been ostracized from Earth.

    Press/hold "R" to stop rotation

  • @diazinth

4:50 'ish, you're talking about accelerating as your spin starts to accelerate. I believe it's reasonable to assume you either hit the wrong button, or your button doesn't do what you think it does. (Assuming default keyboard keybind: Either you hit E, or your D is somehow bound to clockwise rotation.)

    • @joshuacr

And perhaps (if default)holding down the r key not simply pressing it.

Question, how to increase the amount of reactant that you're using for these trips? Is it He-3 or both that and d20? or is it nitrogen?

    • @mochad
      @mochad  13 годин тому

For the torch drive, He-3 seems to be the one you go through fastest.
