My N-scale layout

- The idea of my layout is to represent the New York Central Water Level Route and the Pennsylvania Railroad Elmira Branch in Newark, Lyons and Sodus Point in the mid 1960’s. The benchwork is made of two by four-foot modules. The PRR Elmira Branch moved coal from Williamsport, PA to its terminus at Sodus Point. It crossed over the NYC in Newark and there was a small interchange. Using prototypes as inspiration for the layout, most of the structures are facsimiles, built from commercially available kits. Some are kitbashed to more closely resemble the original. A few are scratch built. At times structures were built to fit the track plan and are not prototypical.
The benchwork is adapted from the N-Trak concept of two by four-foot modules. The New York Central main line in this area had four tracks in the past and currently, as the CSX, has two. The three-track design of a N-Trak module is a reasonable fit. The NYC in this area more or less parallels the Barge Canal and, on occasion, crosses it. Just west of Lyons the main line runs close to NY RT 31 and Barge Canal Lock 28A. The PRR would pick up cars at the Lyons yard to go to the interchange with the Elmira Branch just north of Newark.
Love all of your ‘inspired’ buildings. Recreating the ‘real’ always adds so much more to a layout! Very nice! Thanks for sharing it with us!!
Very interesting layout with beyond WOW detail.
Lovely railroad Bob.. and inspiration
The layout made me smile, cool.
Really great layout. It's an area I've thought about modelling a few times
This is outstanding!
Great looking layout! Nice detail creation of the real scenery and structures
Glad you like it!
Looks great!
Thanks!
Hey Bob, Excellent modeling and recreating history! Great track work! Mike
Glad you like it!
Nice layout but the music made it hard to watch.
Thanks for the comment and I tend to agree about the music. The video editior I used doesn't have many audio options.
