I saw this movie years ago, thinking that they had hired an actor with cerebral palsy. Years later, I find out that Michael Sheen was the actor. His performance in this film is awe-inspiring.
I work with special needs so this movie really hits home with me. Very happy that Colorado does better than most states with its services but we can still do a lot better as well. Praise be to GOD for all involved in bringing Music Within to life! No one is better than anyone else. My families have helped me grow so much and I am very grateful!
This was one of the most enjoyable movies to act in, as a background extra actor here in Portland Oregon, my hometown for over 20 years within this working environment; and several scenes that spanned over 30 years. I brought my own wardrobe as I still have clothing going back into the mid 1970s. As one of the scenes, a mock Jefferson airplane concert; it was created in a downtown Portland bar one night during freezing temperatures in January 2005, I believe when this was being filmed. [We had to stand outside the Music Hall doors in the freezing temperatures, as many of the women in the miniskirts were uncomfortably cold. So us guys all took off our sport jackets and placed them over the cold women. We eventually went inside for the the mocked concert of the Jefferson Airplane's performance. All the women were wearing mini skirts, as unlock group lip-synced to the Jefferson airplane's music Somebody to Love. We had to stand out on the music floor, slightly swaying to the music, while apparently holding burning sage weed rolls with the smoke wafting in the dark concert lighting, mocked as marijuana, and holding empty historic Rainier beer cans from the actual era. Sorrowfully as I eventually watched the whole movie, online some years ago, I think much of this concert scene was actually edited out, as there were apparently only small little snippets as quick edit clips remaining after editing. In another scene I played the part of the hospital administrator, where the lead actor, Ron Livingston's, mother was appearing to be debilitating in health, as acted by Rebecca de Mornay. The overall message for those disabled with cerebral palsy I thought was very well-acted by Michael Sheen.
Guys we are so lucky that we are able to watch this. I'd love to watch this with my clients in daycare centre for disabled adults (most of them have CP), but we're not from english speaking country, there's no dubbed version and the clients don't understand english. Such a pity! We'd have to dub it ourselves with colleagues or idk, haha.
I have a beef here - the movie is about a man that is hard of hearing/deaf. I can't believe this trailer is not closed captioned. I am deaf - ticks me off I don't know is said here.
watched this in my ethnic studies class cause we got on the subject of people with disabilities being discriminated against and I loved it, its an amazing movie and I love the fact that Michael Sheen accurately portrays someone with CP, like I actually believed he really did, he gives the character justice as well being that they're based on a real person whose personailty in the movie is exactly how he is in real life, overall, great film, love the humour, and I am happier than ever to be an Oregonian :)
it's not that accurate, Rory O'shea Was Here, is far more accurate because the real guy the movie above is based off of couldn't be understood by anyone but his friend but the audience can understand him just fine.

Pity that so far has not found it in italian. But, from the trailer, it seems to me that Michael Sheen's interprrtation is great.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if they had hired an actor with CP instead of hiring an actor to act disabled?
Fantastic movie....up there with a Forest Gump......
