I LOVE DBH translation as a tool to assist my own patristics studies. As I read father John Behr’s translations of Irenaeus, Origen, and Gregory of Nyssa I find DBH New Testament to correlate far better with these very early Cristian leaders beliefs than our English translations. In fact I doubt most early Christians would have any idea what the NIV or NASB etc are even talking about with regard to “eternity” as opposed to “unto the age” aiones. I have no doubt that with the exception of Tertullian (who left the church because they were too forgiving for his tastes) the early church fathers would say Hart is right and “NT Wright is wrong” as DBH humorously says in his response to NT Wright which you did not link but is worth a read. In any case great show and thank you for your fun and insightful review I especially like your comically hoisting DBH on his own often times overly verbose petard!
Something positive to come out of David Hart's work is his rebuke on our use (or misuse) of the Greek Historical Present (HP). The HP used in the Greek New Testament (mostly Gospels) regularly gets moved to the past tense. For example: He *_sees_* - to - he *_saw_* Or - Peter *_runs_* to the tomb - to - Peter *_ran_* to the tomb. The purpose of the Greek Historical Present was to enliven the event, to put the reader in the scene. I reference David Hart and speak about this in my preface to the New Testament.
This sounds like an exercise in self-indulgence. Using obtuse words shows that DBH is more concerned about peacocking to the academy than to share his translation to the common man (or common pastor). Plus, I do not care for his criticisms against translation-by-committee. Committees ensure that personal idiosyncrasies (like DBH's use of obscure words) are kept out and more understandable prose be used instead. Sometimes it is better to be prudent than avant garde. BTW, might I suggest a one-man translation from far out of left field? Robert M. Price is a former Christian NT scholar turned atheist and Jesus Mythicist. Now while I thoroughly disagree with him on many of his beliefs, I do remember him translating the New Testament from Greek. It is available used on Amazon.

It certainly sounds like a translation he made only for himself. I will think about the Price version. Thanks for your comments and listening!
