Love this ..I'm 1 year and 11 months totally sober today....Being from New Orleans and being alcoholic myself, there was a point where i realized there is a huge difference between big drinkers and alcoholics...In my opinion Sam and Mark love their alcohol but are not total slaves to it and they can choose to not drink when they don't want to..this is the difference......I love what Steve-O said about becoming not only well in sobriety, but a much better version of yourself. This has been sooo true for me....Now that all the chaos and bad health and mental jailing is over i can say the harshness of my addiction has been a blessing in disguise ...Some people don't make it out to see the brighter side, I consider myself lucky. Great show thanks guys.

The best was when mark asked Steve what his service dog was for. LOL
53:20 Sam is right, the dog is wagging its tail because it has no worry in the World, but that's because the dog is being protected by a human who DOES know that the dog is eventually going to die. So the human makes the dogs life very enjoyable. So ignorance of death would be bliss if we could be taken care of by somebody who knew what death was, and we could just live life without worrying. And that's basically religion in a nutshell. "Put your fear of death in God's hands, he will protect you."
TL:DR Humans are God's to dogs.

I think Steve's view of sobriety is a little older of a view. I think addiction is a symptom of some unresolved pain usually. Repetitive habitual daily use of any substance is the problem. But to have a healthy relationship with all chemicals and foods and vices or whatever u wanna call it, is the ideal outcome 🤙imo at least
@@Noodlepoke that's fair. Nowadays it's a different story. Unfortunately heroin has been replaced by a much more dangerous substance, fentanyl. It's cheaper and much much stronger. It's a horrifying reality for many. That being said, opiates are not the only numbing agent available. I used to be a heroin addict myself. And since getting clean, I've had many new battles. Whether it's heroin, fentanyl, alcohol, habitual unhealthy sex, whatever the fuck it is. We gotta examine our relationship with ourselves before we demonize the substance or the act, that we use to numb ourselves with. It's like, there's no "evil" drug. Even amphetamines can be a strong tool when used appropriately. It's the pattern of use that is the demon.
I weirdly enjoyed Steve-o slowly vanishing like he was removed from the timeline
Man... the way Steve-O described levels of addiction and how being "kinda" addicted can be even tougher, that resonated heavily.

That's what I learned from the 100 court-ordered AA/NA meetings I was forced to go to because I was arrested with weed, don't do the big 3. No one in there describes having the most awesome time on mushrooms and then losing everything.
