@GarysBestGardening - Thanks a bunch, Gary! Just a few days ago, I started listening to your UA-cam videos after hearing Atom Bergstrom speak raves about your wisdom, insights, and skills. I have learned more on gardening from these, especially about the right soil composition, than whatever knowledge I've accumulated over the years.
There are the rare instances of Ph.Ds that have the deep knowledge, practical experience, and humility to evolve with ongoing developments - however I do agree that many of them are just too smart for their own good, and just continue to hold true that which isn't. Kudos on sticking with what actually works!

Thanks for this topic . I bought 15 gal low profile black tree containers and 12" galvanized metal water tubs with my stimulus check and this is my 4th year . Like you I learned by reading and experience . Grow what you like and is not a common inexpensive vegetable like Sicilian purple cauliflower or Japanese cucumbers to name a few . Even okra in the tubs is a great choice

Why has the cannabis industry not gobbled up this guy and made him rich, I mean my next grow will be his soil at home, inside and I am in a wheelchair, need a scissor lift but I believe I will benefit greatly.

Thanks much for this Container Culture topic. I recall you once talked about the difference between "raised" bed vs "elevated bed" with the concept of the "perched water table". My question: Can adding a wick to an "elevated" bed or pot/container to connect with the ground (or a sub-irrigation reservoir) eliminate the perched water table effect?

@GarysBestGardening do you have tips for overwintering in colder climates? Also, do you have comments on the air-pruning pot air-pot - it's a bit different than fabric pots?

Sir,, good morning. I pray someone answers. I have started moving small plants to your mixture that I had not try to create since I can't purchase. I am having a devil of a time find sand. Sand when wet turns to cement. Can I make the mix without sand? If not, what is the best kind of sand to purchase please.

Talking about pots and water saturation, you did not mention drainage holes in the bottom !!

I wonder what his opinion is of the Tip-Pot, every plant grows bigger than me and they are sticky so when I walk which I try to the plants can drag me down, don’t ask?

With using top pot soil in pots, since it has no nutrients in it on its own, do plants and fruit trees for example avocado tree survive long enough for the fertilizer to reach it? And with using your soil, is something like osmocote time release enough with a little compost and mulch on top?

It will live, but might be hungry if you feed organic Fertilizer. You could see some yellowing etc. When I Fertilize I put some homegrown worm castings on top, they are full Of aerobic biology and help break down dry amendments faster. You could also use a liquid fish emulsion or hydrolysate.

I've had teak and mahogany planks lying in the dirt that got soaking wet every time it rained and did not rot after more than 5 years, still solid wood, even nails had a hard time pumcturing mahogany, at least this species of mahogany, not kiln dried.

I have large trees in my backyard. When I did down I hit root after root after root. Any suggestions, or is pot farming the solution?
