    I love when Gary talks about living in a house full of chopped up dead people.

    Gary is spot on with this information. The reason nurseries and their wholesale suppliers use garbage "soil" (and sell bagged garbage "soil") is purely economics. The primary ingredient in these junk "soil" (which they conveniently market as "potting mix" or "planting mix") is forest industry waste - which is purchased for pennies on the dollar as it's essentially a waste product of the timber industry. They then add some perlite and peat. It's super light weight which is cheaper to handle and ship. If your "soil" floats, it not soil.

    Life changing info Gary! I’ve been watching all your soil and avocado videos and by following your rules I have a thriving avocado orchard - after many many false starts and many unhealthy and dying trees

    Really good info. Only thing I'll call him out on is the Osmocote comment, saying synthetics are the same chemicals as organics may be technically true but is ignorant of the way in which plants team up with microlife who in turn unlock nutrients at a rate the plant is asking for, which is completely different from the way that synthetics are instantly available, and hence can burn the shit out of your plants, and also kill the very microlife that break down organic nutrients into plant-available form.

    Where can I buy this soil by the 1.5 - 2.0 cubic ft? I'm dying to try this against another top soil brand of potting soil. (b.a.s. 3.0 recipe) against this top soil mix. Can anyone please help? 🙏

    Anyone know what size perlite and Pumice is used in the top pot?
    Also what type of sand is used?

    • @TheRealHonestInquiry
      @TheRealHonestInquiry 4 місяці тому

      It's probably NOT #3 or larger perlite so I would go with #2, if I didn't hate perlite that is. Rice hulls as he mentioned are better IMO and cheaper. The pumice, same thing, it's not going to be huge chunks in a potting mix, probably close to 1/4". Sand, I really don't think it matters, just get whatever is cheap, such as playground sand from home improvement stores or buy it at a landscape supply.

    Hey Gary, Is kaolin clay a good amendment for moisture retention? For example 90% sand and 10-15% kaolin clay?

    • @TheRealHonestInquiry
      @TheRealHonestInquiry 4 місяці тому

      He mentioned clay at more than 10% would stop drainage so I wouldn't exceed a 1:9 ratio unless you are carefully testing it with side-by-sides and the 15%+ clay has lots of aeration as in minimum 50% like in his Top Pot mix or probably more.

    Can crushed granite can be used as a substitute for pumice?

    How can we get your soil bags in Houston Tx??

      I would do like he said in the video and go to your garden center and request it, otherwise all the ingredients are available, easy to mix and he gave you the exact ratios to use.
