This is the best value for money camera out there at the moment. Even if there was an equivalent Sony at this price with better focusing, I would still go for this Nikon just for the colours.
Aside from the Lumix S5 which is also pretty cheap, it is one of the better options out there. The AF is fine with the updates much better (bar auto area which is weird at times). The single slot CF-E card is the most obvious mistake, it could put people off due to cost, even used. Nikon's files are nice to work with
@MrBazReviews I guess they were thinking if people are willing to pay $2,000 for a camera and god knows how much for lenses, a card at $60 will look like a bargain. But now sold generally as a second-hand camera, $60 is a significant spend and it's only at that price because Sony having the monopoly on them is milking it.
@@argentum3919 It all adds up to the end buyer, honestly the main issue is one card few would be happy with that. Most would want 2-3 cards add that cost up and probably a card reader too. It's rapidly adding hundreds to the cost of the purchase. I have a Z6 II and mostly use the SD card slot, only use the CF-E if I need redundancy. IMO it was a mistake to go with compact flash express.

Surprisingly, I really like the CFXB slot, and I like that there's only one of them. This completely removed the buffer concerns, as even if you have a full buffer with the camera slowing down, the CFXB card will clear the buffer in under 2 seconds which is pretty mighty impressive. And personally, I prefer having a single CFXB card benefitting from the full speed of such cards instead of having CFXD + SD where the SD slot would bottleneck the faster slot (as we can see in the buffer write speed performance of the nikon Z8 for example). It was indeed bold to go with that memory card configuration for their first mirrorless camera that was supposed to replace the D750, but nowadays XQD / CFXB cards are getting pretty affordable, and they are really a benefit for the Z6 in my opinion
There are two problems, one is redundancy for some that's a big one. All cards can fail and whilst CF Express is pretty reliable, it's not bulletproof and can fail. The other is cost, whilst you're right the cards are certainly lower cost now then when the first Z6/7 bodies were released, a lot of people have SD cards and they can't use them in this camera. Cost is still much less on UHS-I cards. Not everyone is burst shooting, landscapes/portraits won't need a super fast card. I see your point, but I have to call it out from Nikon as a mistake to have one card slot. Z6 II has a much larger buffer v the Z6, but you're right it clears fast. I remember testing the D780 and found even a UHS-I card, the buffer isn't bad at all really, and quite a bit more then the D750. They went dual SD UHS II on that model, perhaps they should have done that again for the Z6 series. The Z8 is obviously cut back a bit v the Z9, and one way is the plastic body, the other is a slower SD Card.
If DSLR's didn't exist, I'd probably own a Z6. For the mirrorless world it's pretty solid. Great review though man as usual. Wish there were more "detailed" reviews like this on YT forgoing all the music and "filler".
Takes too long to make, so most don't bother with it easier to do the talking head stuff and bang it out. It's an alright camera for what it is weaker ergos v the DSLR's. D800 stays put that's for certain!
Thanks. I don't see anything mirrorless with Z mount that is comparable to the D500 overall. Z50 II is just out, same/similar sensor, single card slot mostly plastic body. You could try it, to me it's not a D500 offering though ie higher end crop body.
Ordered one for 540 euros. It's the cheapest option to mount the 25-120mm f4. Also bought a used 256gb nvme plus a nvme to cfexpress type b adapter for 40 euros. I guess I'll retire my trusty D610 when it arrives
Depends what you do, this is a bargain but the EVF has some drawbacks too (in particular for moving subjects), if you do video it's a great choice on a budget. I still use my D800 as my main camera for photography. It's more fun/engaging to use.
It's more of a cost issue I think, most people would want a few cards 2 or 3, and that adds hundreds to the bill if you don't have them already (if you do then obviously it's a non issue). It's a pretty good value camera, though the Z6 II has more differences then the reviews would indicate.
