  • Finally got round to converting my Buffalo. This is just a video showing how I by-passed the thermal cut out which now allows the boiler to achieve a rolling boil for brewing beer, rather than cutting out at 99 degrees.

    Great How To mate, Good work. I wish this had been around around 3 years ago Jason, I had a 30 ltr tea urn boiler and I took my eye off it for a minute only to come back outside to see 25 ltrs of wort all over the patio and boiler on floor bent, Probably lowest point in my brewing history I was ready to give up, but the misses said try to fix it, I did something similar and drilled a hole in bottom and passed the thermometer out. That's why on my early vids you'll see it hanging over the top handle.

    So the urn just stays on at full blast? How does the water not boil away? Is the thermostat built into the switch? Why'd you move the temp sensor?

    I have just ordered my boiler but i was thinking why don't i just fix a switch next to the the temp control and wire it up to the thermometer wire so when its switched on i can control the temp and when its switched off it wont read a temp so u can boil. Can anyone tell me if im wrong or it won't work?

    Nice one Jake, is the boiler still going strong? I've seen a 40 litre model on Amazon for £90.00.
    Cheers mate and all the best.

    I have a buffalo boiler. I brew great quality beer without bypassing the cut out. Tend to have a decent rolling boil unless I have grime on the bottom of the boiler. But like the idea of what you have done here. Quick question: why not just put the temp probe on the outside like you did at the end and leave all the other wires alone? It should mean the measured temp never gets high enough to cause the cut off. Would this also work do you think?

    I know this might be a dumb question...why do you pass the thermometer through and tape it outside? What is the downside to not doing this? Sorry for the silly question

    Great Video. I would have done the same. The only bad thing is you just voided the warranty. Again..... I would have taken the risk just like you are doing. It's good to go now. =)

    • @JakesCraftBrewing
      @JakesCraftBrewing  7 років тому

      thanks buddy. yeh warranty no good now lol, but then again the boiler is no good for brewing without the bypass, due to it cutting off at 99 degrees. just the new tap to fit, and new mash tun is here, so im ready to go big batch at last . cheers matey :)

    Will the heat adjustment on the side still work after this mod?

      Did you find the answer to this?

    • @jamesb3092
      @jamesb3092 3 роки тому

      No. He moved the thermometer for some reason? If you leave the thermometer mounted where it is factory then it will work. If you remove it you may as well just bypass the adjustment knob as well.
