    I have a legitimate question that I would be grateful if someone would respond to. What about rocks that are taken for scientific research, such as chemical composition and magnetic orientation?

      Good question. I don't know the answer to what happen to the one who took the rock. But you can go to Hawaii and take a rock and bring it home. It seems harmless right?

      2 years late, but i’ve heard that Hawaiians are allowed to take the rocks for research with permission from Pele, the goddess of fire. :)

      They have rituals performed when removing items for research. Tourists are very disrespectful and trample where they don't belong and steal items. Mail of shame to return something that doesn't belong to them.

      I think it has to do with intent. If it's stuck to your shoe, that doesn't mean you meant to steal it. But if you picked it up on purpose with sole intent on taking it back with you, that's when the bad luck happens.

    I think you have to intentionally take the rock. Like me....haaha It's real. If you ever go to Hawaii don't just visit the beach, but also the hiking trail up the mountain. It's quite a view. Then you might stumble on some stacking rocks, the big one at the bottom then the middle size, last he smallest one on top. they are all on a leave. That is also the sign of respect they pay for the Island gods. Do not disturb them.

    I think it all has to do with an exchange that goes on mentally in your awareness to the surrounding ether. If you pilfer it without attempting to ask humbly, barter, or leave an equivalent item of spiritual value, the environment interprets you as an invading theif, and your subconscious is then free to dynamically react so that situations seem like your receiving the misfortune that you started by not being mindful of those who were there first, and reside possibly there still just unseen who are upset by no longer being acknowledged. They should establish a natural item exchange tourist destination to show how super considerate Americans can be about the mystical when we want to.

    Even if you don’t believe in it, just don’t take anything even jokingly stated to be “cursed”...Because if something bad happens, your ‘souvenir’ will just serve as a depressing reminder. You won’t even feel good about throwing it away and will go through the trouble to send it back.

    • @MrFossil367ab45gfyth
      @MrFossil367ab45gfyth 3 роки тому

      I agree. Even if you don't believe in the curse, just don't take any rocks. It's common sense to respect the environment and a culture's beliefs. Also, if there is a curse, you wouldn't want to take a risk of taking a rock.
      I'm not that superstitious, but I acknowledge the existence of the supernatural including this curse. So I wouldn't take any rocks from there.

      You need to take the rock to find out the fact when you have a chance. I took that chance and I did found out. There are a 4.5 miles hiking trail up the mountain and you can see both east and west sides. Its beautiful. I even know the spot for swimming at night that is safe. Know the local people and their traditions. I am a Christian and these thing are superstition to me but the fact is undeniable, things of the spirit world. It doesn't mean I am abandon my faith. What happened to the one that took the rock? May be the one who took the rock is not who gave it to you.

    In the Orient, we believe spirits inhabit the living and non-organisms (mountains, trees, rocks, statues etc.,) that have witnessed the passage of time. People would murmur words like "sorry, for the inconvenience" before they peed in a forest. That is why Natives that live deep in the forest, or mountain practice animism, and some form of sacrificial to appease these spirits.

    At the end of the day tourists are too disrespectful. They come with the arrogance of superiority and with the intention of trampling where they don't belong...also to steal something they should not have or take items for the purpose of showing off to their friends and family back home. The native Hawaiians know to ask, pray and perform rituals for permission whilst tourists scoff at and do things for greed and validation. Mail of shame to return the rocks with no letters nor notes inside the box. You have been humbled.

    I've heard of this. Similar "sorry stones" have occurred also in Australia with Ayers Rock. This has even occurred in Gettysburg. Even though it will be tempting to bring something home, I wouldn't want to risk getting bad luck. I've heard that the curse was actually just made up by park rangers in the 1940s, but I wouldn't want to take anything. For there has to be something going on. Not all people can be lying, coincidence, suggestion, etc. People should just leave things alone...
