Yeah the angle for the rear shocks didnt look functional even at the glimpse of it. I was wondering when you were gonna scrap the idea haha but i love channel subscribed right away. Thank you for awesome vids!
I'm glad you decided that. The geometry of the shock angle was too extreme to function in a useable manner. It's all a learning game . Power to you for playing and showing everyone anything goes when it comes to custom bikes.

I was so disappointed at the beginning bc I was hoping for a hardtail....and then... boom!!! Hardtail reveal at the end!! Super stoked to see that video!! 🤟🏻
Unfortunately I agree... the location of the shock is terrible... on the Indian Scout the shock is still mid way up the swing arm.. but the Scout is actually a terrible design too! Glad you went hardtail in the end. The shock setup you were planning would've behaved like a hardtail anyway
Your builds are top notch! I like how thorough and attention to detail all bikes you have built. All truly one of a kind. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge with us. Cheers brother
I like you videos and enjoy them. You explain the details precisely, so it helps to understand you ideas behind the actions. Very well done! Thank you!
Awesome watching a bike get cut apart and put back together great idea putting the bar stock inside the frame to strengthen it a lot of guys don’t do that
Hey man, I didn't think that would work. The shock angle was too drastic for the spring. You could keep the look and still have some bounce if you use a leaf spring from like a small boat trailer. Just saying I like the hard tail but I'm like over 50 now and built more for comfort. Thanks for all the videos.
It was a good concept though. I can see why you scrapped the softtail for the hardtail option. Nice job though, I was liking the original idea. I guess for it to be structurally sound you might have to build a full suspension from scratch. Hardtail is much more structurally sound and alot less work. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.
Actually alot of the classic "bobbers" used Harley Hardtail frames from old Knuckleheads and Panheads... so yeah... hardtailed frame is more bobber... chopper is more about the forks and neck of the bike
Tiny Table Wargames The frames were dead stock original, on Harleys as well as british bikes. Don't tell me what a bobber was cuz I was there then and I had one: a '52 Harley panhead with tank shifter, no front fender, solo seat, flat bars and open pipes; THAT was a bobber.
Very cool idea. It's hard to put in the time then have to abandon the idea. Safety first though. I watched the whole video and was getting very excited to see the result as I have a 82 magna torn down, deciding to keep the shocks or not. I am also trying to find a way to incorporate the springs whilst keeping the slope of the frame to go downward. My thought to fix the hard angle on the shock is to bring the bottom part the shock more forward on the swingarm making the shock more vertical.? Anyways this content is inspirational to me, thank you for sharing. Subscribed!
Yes Mark Blundell. I realized late into the chop that the factory Magna is a finely tuned machine. I can only repay the attributes of the stock Magna by fabbing a one of a kind bobber where the v65 4banger is the only recognizable piece on the canvas. MOTO PILOT has a similar project on his hands but lucky for me I discovered I can mount 2 shocks in the space between the motor and the front of the rear tire. There is enough vertical space but the work comes with fabbing new shock mounts. Mark Blundell, how can you relate to the Magna? MOTO PILOT, would be great to see a similar shock mount idea on the CB650.
Matt Mounting the shocks in the position you noted will increase compression dramatically. I suggest you look into obtaining a shock from a Hnda vlx 600 and mount it to one side of the swing arm. It's a short monoshock and will tuck in neatly also alowing you to angle it in a more extream manner. I've been building bikes for 42 years.
@@MOTOPILOT6 up to 6 weeks but could be next week. i ordered through lowbrow for the assembled one. pretty much could only tell me the longest it will take is 6
Just curious why the shocks wouldnt work? I love the concept of having the shocks in line with the frame. I was thinking of doing something similiar to this idea on my Vulcan build. As I have a bad back. Was it just to much angle on the shocks to work correctly?
Yeah, the angle of the arm was set to swing for the original suspension. Changing the shocks angle but not the length of the arm meant the suspension wouldnt have been compressing on itself, but to the side. It wouldn't have worked unless he changed everything in the suspension to keep the angle right under load.
The shock set is too decline 😂 it becomes bouncy when youn ride lol Declines shocks are design for bmw r90 .. applying that concept might cause you harder shocks to be installed..
From a subs perspective; I subbed to your channel a year ago because of your Aprilia (Sportbikes). Now you're doing bobbers. No offense to the bobber crowd, but any plans on doing a Sportbike build?
I get it Muscrat. I actually filmed an Aprilia vlog recently that I'm going to release this week. And yes, the next build will be more of a Street Fighter.
Your rear shock new angle is totally dysfunctional, not going to work.I hope the rest is better than that or you are in trouble.Sundquist Norton you tube.
Take a look at the Indian Scout Bobber shock angle. You may want to write the engineers of this bike that it's totally dysfunctional. Oops, too late. =-)
If no one had the second ammendment this country would've never became a super power and you would not have had the chance to live such a life you have, even on its worst days life would still be a thousand times better than a life in a country with no second ammendment. 80's Honda's rock! pentagram wheels inline 4 good bikes!
I was lookin forward to a nice chopped swing arm build. Id would have been different then every other bobber iv seen at sturgis.
The shocks physically will not work in this position so I'd say the hard tail is a must. Good luck with the build...
The Indian Scout says otherwise. But I did go the HardTail route for a cleaner lighter design.
By definition, if you modify the frame, you have a chopper, not a bobber. A bobber is bobbed, a chopper is chopped, simple no?
Actually alot of the classic "bobbers" used Harley Hardtail frames from old Knuckleheads and Panheads... so yeah... hardtailed frame is more bobber... chopper is more about the forks and neck of the bike
