  • How To Deal With Fat Haters
One of the big reasons why some people are a little a little nervous about cycling out on the road is because they are worried about what other people may think of them, especially if they don't quite have the form of a chiselled Adonis.
They mistakenly think that people are judging them for not being super slim, partularly if they are wearing skin tight lycra cycling kit.
The good news is that most times 'other people' have better things to do than worry about seeing a less than slim cyclist whizz past them for about half a second.
However, not everyone has this attitide. There is a very small minority of people that might look down on us cyclists because we don't look like a skinny whippet. The truth about these people is that it doesn't really matter what you look like, they just want to make people feel bad and they will use anything at their disposal to do it. If they aren't making someone feel bad about their weight, they would be doing it about something else.
These fat haters are pretty sad people and us cyclists need to respond to them in a mature, classy way.

Mate I hold you in awe for trying to keep fit and making your videos whilst also struggling with weight. Some people are so pig ignorant. On my morning walks here in WA I see any different sizes and shapes of cyclists and walkers/runners and always feel more admiration for the ones who are more weight challenged. I got abused the other day by some lout in a car shouting out “get off the f.....g road”! And all I was doing was cycling with my son on a quiet side road leading down to our local estuary. So the pricks are everywhere Leonard!👍😎🇦🇺Still loving the channel.

Ride along and you will loose some weight and at some day you will be faster then the most bike riders. I lost around 50kg in two years. I rode around 15000km in this two years. Now i have 110kg and i‘m faster than 90% than the cyclists in my area. First the laughed at me at my first hillclimb, now i can overtake them easyly. On this Hillclimb is a garmin segment an i am on place 72 of nearly 1500. On flatter terrain i have 2 koms and i am mostly in the top 15.

  • @cyclingbrothers7362
    @cyclingbrothers7362 5 років тому +5

Yep, had the same thing. I was 110kg when I started cycling, now I'm 85/86... when I was heavy people laughed at me and making fun of me when I was climbing, I once heard during climbing: "Come on fatty..." Now I lost weight I'm not that slow anymore... not even uphill. One guy said to me last saturday after I dropped him: "It's not fun to cycle with you"
I know it's not good to do this for others, it's important for yourself... but shutting people down or receive these kind of comments remembers me how hard training is paying off.
Leonard, you're a hero! Keep up the good work, cycle if you want... it's your life and you must be happy. F*ck them.

I like cooking and food and wine but I recognized that we eat a lot out of habit, boredom or just without thinking. I have been eating only once a day for about 3 years and I am not suffering, at all. The body and mind get completely used to it. And the stomach shrinks naturally so you feel full very quickly. I use vitamin pills as a supplement. Just my 2 cents.

You having a desire to ride your bike is plenty of reason to do so! That was even funnier than just saying "Fat Bastard"! To be perfectly honest about our use of insults in America, we didn't say that one nearly as much until Austin Powers came out. So I guess you can blame that Canadian! That's lasting a good couple of minutes actually! You're right about the Lycra. I never wear the stuff, at least for the tights I don't. I personally hate that look, and it's very easy for me to remind myself that there was cycling before it. For a big film example with a road bike, you can think of Warren Beatty before hitting the tunnel in "Heaven Can Wait". If Warren Beatty didn't need it, then I don't. One of my favorite all time British TV shows was "All Creatures Great and Small", which was rural but not strictly a comedy.

Although 'fat haters' are completely pathetic and go about it in the completely wrong way, it is important to remember that being overweight shouldn't be praised and glamourised just because you happen to be doing exercise. Being obese puts a huge strain on the body and is incredibly unhealthy so something is needed to be done to prevent this despite the fact that 'fat haters' certainly don't help at all and are completely unnecessary.

Haters suck. But that's all they are, people filled with such hate for themselves that they take it out on others. I'm not fat but I am a woman and get bullied by other men almost every second day on the bike. For example today a man rode straight through the 2 massive give way signs in front of him and almost rode straight into me and when i pointed out the signs he just said "whatever" and i thought "I very much doubt he would have said that to a man because he likely would be afraid of being punched in the head."I rode off and thought to myself" keep your whatever because the next time you ride through there and don't give way, a car will likely drive straight over you." I don't know why people feel the need to scream about at others. They lack maturity and empathy, that's for sure. The best thing to do is laugh and say" bugger off."

Happened to me on the first ride after I got a new bike after years of not riding. I thought to myself, "Yeah, but I'm doing something about it." There are some people that detest seeing others exercise and some are just hateful mouthy moody alcoholics and drug addicts... I am in great shape for any age group... I had a friend tell me lately that riding a bike was a waste of time... Of coarse I'm in better shape and healthier than he is ... And one evening after night fall I heard someone say out of the darkness... Why don't you act your age... His comment didn't make any sense to me... Regardless of our age we all should be riding bikes either indoors or outside...

Ive a couple of smartass stock responses and Im hoping they dont get it straight away because they will normally think about it and it will occur to them later exactly what I meant and it will really screw their day - Im a bus driver as well so accustomed to letting more than the odd abusive comment go to the keeper.... but thanks Leonard :) enjoy the content you create :)

Nothing but respect from me for fat people on bikes. They take matters into their own hands knowing full well how exposed they look on their bikes. Most fat people just stay on the couch, eat chips and feel sorry for themselves.

People with Tourettes can't help it that the difference and ut usuallu 2 words per in insult. Your out there doing it and no doubt fitter. Sumo wrestlers have low visceral fat and are quite fit albeit terribly overweight. Hell with the haters just remember we're a universal group of people that love our hobby and transport. For 1 hater theres a thousand supporters

Sadly, many people look down on all cyclists. To them we are an inconvenience, riding on a road we have no right to be on. We are in their way and slowing them down from reaching whatever destination they are always so urgently needing to arrive at. However, as you said, anyone who verbally insults you while riding is truly only expressing some insecurity they have about themselves and trying to make themselves feel better.

Lot of jealous people in this world, i have always enjoyed doing things and have good motivation, i feel most of my friends laugh and try to ridicule at times, i actually enjoy it now i understand why they do it, pricks.

We have not run into any problems but we try to stick to mostly gravel and tough trails. They're friendlier and very few vehicles. Last week we did a " road' which was MTB territory. Took 2 hours to do 11K. It was steep and treacherous in places. We ran into 2 jeeps and an excavator who we have met several times as he is working up there. We stopped and had a pleasant chat. Our legs were like jello at the end of it but it was a really fun afternoon. It was a challenging ride but not an overwhelming one.

Its a shame you didn't get him on film with sound of course so his unacceptable behaviour could be shown for what it is.I've had a small minority shout abuse at me when I'm on my bike,it can spoil my day and never sure what to do about it.

I think a psychologist would suggest that people who behave like this have a whole bunch of anger and negativity, mostly aimed at themselves. I think it makes them feel temporarily powerful by shouting out ugly, hateful words. In order to compensate for their own lack of self esteem. It's good to see that you can see that these people have low value characters. If I get some hate or nonsense from people, I sometimes watch this. It's just a movie but the words reflect the reality of life. Stay Strong!

Being a 57 year old man at 5foot 9inches and 244pounds I can relate directly with this video. I know I more likely resemble a chubby hobbit but I don't care what any hater thinks I'm riding the bike because I enjoy it and it's helping improve my health. I have heard that opinions are like a certain body part...everybody's got one. The haters just use theirs more often 😂😆
