The A340-300 doesn’t use more runway than others. It all matters how much power is reduced on takeoff. It seem the pilot didn’t reduce as much as they could’ve.
I was surprised that this aircraft took off from Boston's Runway 22R which is 7800' long. It seems like a rather short runway for an A340 on a transatlantic flight.
The 340-300 has roughly the same total power installed as a A330-300 and the OEW of the 340 is only marginally higher. Therefore, the takeoff roll of the 340 won't be much longer. The observed shallow climb out of many 340-300s is due to the fact that it can load about 40t more than the A330-300, which is needed for the longest missions.

Really enjoyed this takeoff over Boston, felt like I was on the trip. It's been said that this plane is underpowered, I really don't think so. Powerful take off gorgeous engine sound! Thank you!
Thank you watching! This takeoff is more powerful than I thought, only used half of the runway. The climb was quite slow though. But no matter it’s underpowered or not A340 is always my favorite

@@MqLei all 4 (or 3) engines airplanes climb slower than a jet with 2 engines. The total power of all engines combined can be significantly less for a 4 engine airplane. " Weirdly, this was an overnight flight, and the flight attendants insisted that all of the window shades be pulled down thru ought the entire plane." The engine ist the most expensive part on an aircraft. By installing a a320 engine they saved a lot on planing/construction costs. Also spare parts for a320 engines are available in almost every airport in case something happens. Also it served the ETOPS requirements from back in the days. Further, why don’t take the a320 motor?
