Yes!! This makes me very happy! As for songs, I'd reeeeeally love a Roll Northumbria video. I miss it from Andy's chill streams, it's so beautiful in his voice.
It’s slightly surreal to see the infamous lampshade on the lamp, and not on Andy’s head, but I’m adequately happy to be getting a stand-alone recording of yet another livestream favorite
That lamp will forever be remembered as one half of Lampdy. Its life will never be the same. Let's just hope the fame doesn't go to its head. (Or Andy's, I guess, in case they share feelings when they are joined.. Ok, now my brain is just being weird)
I'm out of the loop. 😄 I've seen the lamp in several of the music videos that were recorded in this room but I didn't see when it was on Andy's head lol. Was this during a live stream?
@@ProfesoraNut I replied but then I guess edited my reply too much and it glitched and vanished? 😂 I’ll try again. Had to look it up, but yes, in the “streamship troopers” live stream (9 months ago) starting around the one hour fifteen mark, Andy puts the lampshade on his head, then ends up singing with it on. I believe the lamp had been moved off its usual table for some reason, and it kept falling over, and Andy got fed up with it and got his revenge by wearing it. (He frequently puts things on his head/face, it’s one of the livestream bingo squares) One of the folks on the discord even made a drawing of it, and someone made a “Lampdy” emoji for the discord. Splendid TLJ lore😂
I hope The Decemberists let this version stay up, as any other version of this song was struck down for copyright reasons, even a TLJ cover from a stream way back in 2020
@@fandyus4125 They're not wrong. I probably started with songs like Chimbley Sweep, Mariner's Revenge, Annan Water, etc. But even the albums they've released the last few years have had amazing songs on them.
This was absolutely spectacular to listen to. As for more songs, I absolutely love Rocky Road to Dublin, and a studio version would be awesome Edit: For everyone who doesn't know, and I'm updating this a bit late, but they released both a studio recording (on C-Sides) and music video for Rocky Road to Dublin
Definitely a melancholy song. Surmising here… Since selling coal and marigolds can’t make him much he’s very sad. His girlfriend died and he couldn’t afford a nice robe to bury her in. His grief then was so overwhelming that he drowned himself, and he now “haunts” the area still pushing his wheelbarrow.
What a beautiful cover!! I'd love to hear a studio recording of Corncrake, I still listen to the kitchen table version because it's one of my favorites!
my happiness at hearing you cover this is utterly inappropriate for the sadness of the song but god i am genuinely just sitting here grinning at the screen. this is perfect
a cover of 'Over the Hills' form sharpe and 'Cornwall My Home' from the fishermans friends would be amazing. and a colab of you and Colm Mcguinness would awsome

Anything by the Decemberists would be amazing to hear covered by y’all, but if I had to request specifics I would give it to either The Mariner’s Revenge or From My Own True Love (Lost At Sea)
Thank you for doing a stand alone cover of this song I have had it stuck in my head all week. As for future videos "Oh Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie" would be a great American folk song to cover or "The Downeaster Alexa" by Billy Joel.
I'm once more coming before you to humbly request a cover of White Squall. You guys do Excellent with Stan Rogers older songs, and this is my personal favorite of his.
Absolutely beautiful boys, one of my favourites of yours, so nice to have a proper recording. Any chance of Chemical Workers/Mining for Gold in the future?
Can't stop listening! Your music always reminds me of my college days, when we used to sing together around the campfire. This is a great ghost song, and would have been much loved. I Ride an Old Paint is a nice old cowboy song that would go great with Andy's banjo. 🤗
All of these have been so good. Would love a studio cover of Shenandoah sometime, you did it on one of the streams with Lucy and the harmonies were just incredible
Yeah, this one - like many of your best - is really strengthened by ya'll taking advantage of your split harmonies. Every time I'm sure I'm able to hear all 4 of ya, I love it most. Good choice for a cover, plays to the lead's strengths and the 3 instruments well, too.
This is beautiful. I'm still hoping for covers of Vin Garbutt's Blue Sunset or G. Lightfoot's Big Blue🐳, but this one has made me think of Whiskey on a Sunday, which I first heard by Max Boyce, but decades later, I turned a corner in Whitby to see a busker perform it, complete with the two dancing dolls on planks. Silly grin and tears all at once!
I almost made it all the way through without crying. But now I can't stop.. So beautiful, so sad, such lovely voices and harmonies. Such a sad song, but love JD singing this one.

Lyrics:
Eli, the barrow boy
Of the old town
Sells coal and marigolds
And he cries out
All down the day
Below the tamaracks
She is crying
Corn cobs and candle wax for the buying
All down the day
Would I could afford to buy my love a fine robe
Made of gold and silk Arabian thread
She is dead and gone and lying in a pine grove
Still I push my barrow all the day
Still I push my barrow all the day
Eli, the barrow boy
When they found him
Dressed all in corduroy
He had drowned in
The river down the way
They laid his body down in a church yard
But still when the moon is out
With his push cart
He calls down the day
Would I could afford to buy my love a fine gown
Made of gold and silk Arabian thread
But, I am dead and gone and lying in a church ground
And still I push my barrow all the day
Still I push my barrow all the day
I must push my barrow all the day
I must push my barrow all the day
Thanks for this!
