you will be disappointed when you see the public transport is lacking, that the food court has the same junk food as everywhere else (1 maccas, 1 kfc, 1 overpriced cafe), and the boarding room looks like an ikea showroom
The current design doesn’t provide a “wow” factor that would resonate with international travelers or showcase Australia’s rich culture, indigenous heritage, or cutting-edge modernity. The Western Sydney Airport seems uninspired, resembling a utilitarian draftsman’s blueprint rather than a sophisticated architectural masterpiece.
Very few airports have a wow factor from the outside - and for good reason, why would it need to when passengers don't actually see it beyond pulling up at the terminal before they leave? What matters is the interior, and if you've actually done the research to see the internal spaces of this airport (which you clearly haven't), you'd be proven very wrong
Thank you, yes I think it's looking pretty good inside too. I just think we need to see the completed build and we'll hopefully have a nice looking exterior too.
It’s such a shame we didn’t build any beauty into the functionality of this new airport. There are new airports being built around the world which are absolutely stunning works of art. This is just a glorified concrete bunker. Such a lost opportunity.
100% agree. Looks very plain to say the least.A good example of a new airport that looks pleasant is Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok. The Thai’s did a proper job when they built it 18 years ago.
Have you ever seen something build in Australia by Australians that is a thing of beauty? I wonder how many corners were cut on this build. I hope it was signed off by David Chandler. Otherwise I fear the cladding will fall off.😉
As a usual buildings in Australia, blocks or boxes of concrete, there's no single touch of beauty or art. Same as Australian embassy in Jakarta it put shame on Australia, a few blocks of concrete stocked together 😂😂😂
Firstly, I think it's great that Sydney has finally received a second airport, and one that has future capacity for growth and development. However, I'm a little underwhelmed by the design. I think we had a chance to make a real statement and gateway to Australia with the new terminal. Asian and Middle Eastern countries in particular have done this well. In reality, the design is a sheet metal and glass box, and whilst it's fresh and clean, it's nothing special. The much lauded interior timber ceiling is almost a straight steal from the Madrid airport terminal.
If you need to go to the centre, then fly into the KSA. The Western Sydney Airport is convenient for people living in western Sydney (plus 24 hour freight)
hope there’s a railway line going all the way to the main entrance to the terminal, and it’s a public railway not a private lease railway like they’re having Brisbane ,which charges an arm on the leg to go from the city to the airport, so the workers that work at the airport can use public transport to get to work.😮
I'm afraid this airport will be extremely underulilized when it's completed. We have seen this before. An old example would be Montreal. They have built a massive new airport "Mirabel" in a not so convenient location and now barely anyone uses it except for some cargo operators. The original idea was that it was going to be the main airport, that was some 30 years ago. How many people know Mexico city has a brand new airport? Far outside the city. AFAIK no international carriers use it, only gets used by a few low cost carriers operating inside the country. Everyone else uses the old run down airport near the city center. Sydney's current airport is convenient as it is very close to the CBD and the Eastern and Southern suburbs. Imagine the nightmare getting to this new airport on a weekday afternoon from the CBD. But we will see. Added: Almost forgot about Dubai. About 10 years ago they completed their "new main airport" DWC or Dubai World City outside the city. Well apart from a few cargo operators and low cost carriers almost nobody flies there and continues using the old airport near everything.
In all fairness, Mirabel was out in the middle of nowhere and had very poor road connections and no transit at all. At least they are building a transit connection to this airport
@HAL9000_AU I live under a flight path into Perth .planes at all hours. There's 3 approaches into Perth. Sometimes they are landing over me and other times they are climbing ..they mix it up according to the wind direction..but they still operate 24 hrs and I live in Cannington which is only 10 kms from the city
Yeah not much beauty to it but I do like the layout of having international arrival heading up to 2nd floor walk to passport and head down 2 floors to baggage (eg like Narita T1). I like that layout where domestic is right on air bridge level and arrival is up the top
High tech 24 hour runway, terminal with gates that can switch between domestic and international, driverless metro and then a carpark and drop off area that looks like a 1980’s shopping centre.
1 initially with a 2nd runway and 3 more terminals to come. Keep in mind it’s one of the world’s most advanced runways with no on-site air control tower (it’s all digital) and tech that can keep it running 24 hours in all weather conditions.
@pixelpotato4874 You used the best airport in the US as an example. There are 100s of others there which are comparable to hospitals from the 1970s era
@@denkoxh8610 I used it because it's the most recently built in your country, and Western Sydney International is the most recently, sorry nearly completed Airport in my country,it isn't going to be outstanding, considering it's the first stop for most people entering the Country

terrible terminal design making people walk so far just to get inside most airports have an upper and lower road right at the terminal for quick entry and exit
Couldn't agree more, it looks like it was designed by an accountant. It's small, boring and why only one runway? On the plus side I'm sure it will come in on budget.
@@ZKJDB72People who comment about the airport having only 1 runway and calling it too small to be an international airport need to do research, this is only phase 1.
pretty ordinary sort of design, nothing in comparison to newer airports in Asia and the Middle East, nor does it look to compare with the big upgrades in the US. An ugly shed-what a disappointment.
The lives of millions will be destroyed forever with this airport, many houses weren’t built to withstand loud airplanes sounds and those houses sits right or near by 5 to 6 km near an airplane pathway, this will be 24/7, many people will die with chronic diseases, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, stress, heart attack, and so many more diseases related to this sudden change that will impact the lives of millions, this is the biggest betrayal to everyone living in the west of Sydney, and i predict a sudden rise in violence and domestic violence when this airport is fully operated. The little low paid jobs that will create does not justify anything. The roots of this pathway cuts through the whole of the west of Sydney almost everyone will be affected of one way or another. Let’s not talk about how they acquired the land, the corruption on this project started with the purchase of the land. I feel for the people of the west of Sydney, their lives will be changed forever and not in a good way, and they won’t benefit from anything about this new airport. 💔👎🏽
Why this Airport has all flat roofs , looked more or less like a Shopping Centre...there is a bit boring to look at..... Why couldn't it be having modern design....there is NO, " WELL ' factor there....."NOT SO STUNNING " 🤔
I am actually really hyped for this airport to open
You live in western Sydney ?

Excellent clear close ups to which show this terminal may be a lot bigger then some critics think. Seeing the inside will be the icing on the cake.

How do you know it won’t inside?
Much like all the houses in the area 😂😂😂😂

Yes, it has the feel of a glorified Bunnings: an oversized aluminium shed surrounded by carparking.

Nice to get a little peak inside. The escalator's were running. They will be out of warranty before the airport opens
Really? How long have those Kingsford Smith Airports escalators been running??? 12 months?
it looks good and will be a great airport, so sad they muddled it up with the Metro extension, should have been a non stop high speed rail to centre

Looks like a fancy toilet block.
Just paint a Bunnings logo on the side to complete it.
Am I wrong or can it only take 14 planes . The terminal doesn’t look much bigger than Coolangatta airport

Typical eastern suburbs mentality
