Honestly the guitar going out at 4:10 felt perfectly serendipitous and fitting for this already incredible song--amazing performance and congratulations!
Quinn, I just heard your story on NPR, and I immediately had to hear this whole song. As a trans person myself, it moved me deeply and made my day. Thank you for sharing this with the world. With art like this, we will not be erased.
Love the set, the music, the vocals, the intensity, the emotion, the intention, the equipment malfunction, the movement, the giggles, the comradery. A mini MASTERPIECE. ----------------------------------------Like Duchamp's The Large Glass, it wasn't finished until it broke.-----------------------Many thanks to Quinn and Nick and all the creators on this gem
One of the very many things I wasn't prepared for when I transitioned was how infuriating it is to be treated fairly when I wouldn't have been before, and how utterly exhausting it is every time. Thank you for this music.
I heard this on the radio while driving and was dumbfounded with the rawness of emotion...and I only heard a snip-it of it as it was featured in a piece on NPR. A few days passed and this song kept haunting me; it was powerful and kept coming back into my thoughts. It seemed, for the first time, I could actually feel what my transgender friends feel, not just simply understand it; but I mean REALLY feel the frustration, the anger, the vulnerability; even just for a glimmer. lt just brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing this. I really needed the experience. I love it. I am just blown away.
... that is the definition of FLOWING...no matter what happens to accept it and make the best of it, taking unexpected things in such a funny way. I love this group since I saw them in Tiny Desk! I love his sensibility... All the best to you. Namaste.
CONGRATULATIONS!! Holy mother of crap, what a powerful song, and a killer performance. I'm so happy you kept that take. Your voice is so damn expressive. Thank you for bringing your music and experience to us all... and thanks to NPR for letting me (and now a bazillion others) discover you. Best of luck on what's about to be a crazy-ass journey! 💗👍🎵
Because people don't like seeing women so unhappy that they try to erase themselves. And as a white man, I can tell you that the "privilege" described here is a joke. If I mouth off to a cop and am shot and killed, nobody cares. That's privilege. No white man has ever won NPR's contest because we are the most hated group in America. Also, the song sucks.
I keep referencing this video daily for inspiration, comfort and the multidimensional range of an artist wearing many hats. He manages to evoke many affects from his words, range, and turbulence of emotionality. I’m really appreciating the representation of an indigenous individual in a relatively isolated part of the world. This phenomena of talent mixed with tenacity is something to look forward to with any new musical discovery. Thanks for giving yourself to a local and global community!! It’s raw and real, the thing we long for as humans- you’re delivering !!
Quinn is a beautiful combination of the look and feel of Tyler Joseph, the sound of Kurt Vile, the emotional expressiveness of Sam Herring, and a giant heap of sheerly unique awesomeness. 💜 Kudos also to Nick, who accompanies with love in his eyes and magic in his hands..
I am a professional musician and fighter for peace and true equality..... this is the type of art and living that makes me proud to be a human. I love you...I love this.
For some reason, this song comes on every time one of my music videos is done playing … and I rarely, if ever, press skip. So grateful this thing was made! As a fellow artist, Quinn, I can identify a transcendent performance when I see one. You outdid yourself, my friend ✨ I can’t imagine how it feels to be you, but I feel like we have this thing in common because of something you made and had the spectacular gumption to put out in such dramatic fashion. I would recommend anyone who hasn’t seen this to see it … ASAP 🤩🙌🏼
Sadly, truthfully, bitterly, there are some universal truths expressed in this powerful song. I've lived it. We all have. No matter who, or what, we are, though some definitely get shorter sticks. What people do to us...But they're wounded too. More than most. What we do to ourselves too...But if you can get through to the other side, there is truth, clarity, peace, and love. (It still sucks sometimes. Life.) Congratulations Quinn and Nick on your Tiny Desk win! Absolutely deserved. Way to do "the show must go on!"
Congratulations on your win. This song hit me like 30 tons of bricks, especially the way you delivered it. Maybe it was 40 tons, I din't quite weigh it
I've watched this about 20 times today and it kills me every time. Thank you for sharing your incredible voice and vulnerability. What a gift to us all.
so beautiful and moving. thank you quinn and nick for your music and your voices, i love everything about this. please put this version on spotify and other platforms!!
Awesome!! I I discovered your track while listening to the "knightcrawler," the radio DJ of CHRW 94.9 FM, [Fridays, 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.] when he presented it as a double offering from the Tiny Desk performances. Congratulations, Peace and much Love from London, Ontario, Canada!!
As an avid music lover, I have to say this is quite possibly thee best song ever written. Your voice moves me to tears and I can’t stop watching and listening! Please never stop creating, it’s absolutely beautiful. ♥️
Incredible poetry, spoken and visual. This video is so beautiful, and the recognition it’s received is well deserved. Congratulations to you both! 🤘🏼🌙🌀

I was very much hoping that you would win. Love the honesty, love the lyrics, love the profound simplicity of it all. Thanks and please don't be silent....there IS someone listening. Thanks again!
Like both videos of your song. Congrats on your TDC win Quinn. I entered also and thought, if it's not me who wins.......hope it's this kid. Watched this original more than a few times. Great stuff !!
Such an inspiring story and a wonderful example of artistry! Everything down to wardrobe, set choice, and the vulnerable storytelling were wonderful, and I can speak for all of the Tiny Desk entrants when I saw we're so happy you get to share your story around the country. Congrats!
What a performance! I love the emotion, and movement, and pain, and laughter. I had no idea of the backstory-- I just watched it straight in. Then, read the story, and watched it again, twice. Incredible. Thank you for this.
Congrats, Quinn. First, on writing and performing such an incredible piece. Not halfway through and I'm struggling not to cry. And second, on your selection for Tiny Desk!!!

OH WOW! Chills. Great job and so many, many congratulations to you. The song is so amazing but you did such a great job with the visual presentation as well. The video was essential for me. I dig the way you move when you sing-it totally pulled me in!
Coming back to this video 4 years later, I was surprised to recognize the guitar player as Medium Build! Very cool

He is so cool! Now that he is a man no one disses him. He has power and a voice and no one interrupts him. No one tries to erase him now. Love you man
Quinn, I just heard your story on NPR, and I immediately had to hear this whole song. As a trans person myself, it moved me deeply and made my day. Thank you for sharing this with the world. With art like this, we will not be erased.

Fuck these negative troll ass comments. You are all beautiful and strong. Please don’t ever doubt that.
@PIZZA ive never thought im gonna say this but fuck you pizza
Amazing song. I love how the guitarist didn't stop playing. It saved the take. Stayed in rhythm, finished the song. Don't ever give up.
Love the set, the music, the vocals, the intensity, the emotion, the intention, the equipment malfunction, the movement, the giggles, the comradery. A mini MASTERPIECE.

These guys understand what is music.
Listened to this song for the first time. A beautiful reflection of undue, emotional poverty and disparity.
I'm sorry, but why doesn't this video have 10 mil views yet? Quinn's music deserves to be heard EVERYWHERE! Everyone share!

Also, the song sucks.
Bravo! Truly magnificent and thank you👍
Incredible. I cried. So simple. So honest. So raw. You are a true artist. The world is lucky to have you. Thank you for tugging on my heart strings.
Everytime I come back to this song my hair stands on its end. Such an incredible song and performance.
I stopped eating and teared up, and I don't know even when. Thank you.
