I predict that Venomoth will have the easier time at the elite 4 but Butterfree will have an easier time getting the 8 badges. Butterfree learns sleep powder super early but venomoths typing will screw with Lorelei and Lance's AI making those fights more consistent
Accuracy X breaks the move. In Gen 1 only, Accuracy X makes so that all moves bypass accuracy checks. That means that as long as you are faster than your opponent, you can OHKO any Pokémon first try.
@@rordongamsay8478 he doesn't use itens tho. Especially if an item makes a questionable run into arguably a better than average run since you sorta do a equivalent thing to swords dance into move but you always ohko. On the other hand, it is just rng
@@Dragostorm21 Yeah, I know he doesn't use items. I was just saying. A OHKO-move only run doesn't have to be only one pokémon tho. Even if it's luck-based, you may still use Pinsir, Rhydon and Kingler for example, taking Pinsir into Earthquakes, Rhydon into Normal-type attacks, and Kingler into Water-type attacks for example, to maximize the amount of hits you take before running out of HP. And PP wouldn't be a problem that way, or at least not that much.
@@rordongamsay8478 Still a pretty big RNG fest, but that is more manageable. Although Rhydon would kinda suck for that because of how slow it is, and in Gen 1, OHKO moves only work if you out speed the opponent. And if you're only using OHKO moves, then I would assume that also means no Thunder Wave or String Shot or anything.
Pinsir is one of my favorite gen 1 pokemon. When I played Let's Go Eevee for the nostalgia it gave me a shiny purple pinsir with a bad nature and IVs, and even so I took that thing to the elite four and wrecked everything in sight.
0:50 I wish I could talk to the developers of this game and ask them what the heck they were thinking making a bug type Pokémon that cannot learn a single bug move. It’s typing serves no offensive purpose all and it’s just so dumb
Despite lacking a Bug-type move or any way to harm Ghosts directly, Pinsir managed to stomp the game very effectively. Swords Dance is just very OP in Gen 1.
Bug type moves were mostly crap in gen 1, the strongest being twineedle and only breedrill can have it, not to mention that the only 3 ghost types in gen 1 were all dual typed ghost/poison, meaning bug type moves were practically useless back then.
@@Bruce_Fernandes Quick correction but Bug moves vs. Gengar/etc. would actually be okay in Gen 1. Poison, for whatever reason, took super-effective damage from Bug, so it would've been hitting neutral vs. Gengar.
@@mr.number9279 right. Anyway, gen 1 had very few offensive bug type moves and all of them quite weak in base power, not to mention also locked exclusively for certain pokemon that don't shine when it comes to their stats( with the exception of jolteon, that shines in speed and learns pin missile).
(11:45) Wow, that's about a 0.81% (1/123) chance to land Guillotine four times in a row! (12:40) LOL, Gen. 1 miss FTW. (28:24) "I think we've got this." But, I notice there's still 9 minutes left of the video, so... (29:58) Yep, I saw that coming. Darned critical hit at the worst time, as expected. I definitely have a jrose shaped hole in my heart, but I honestly expected this to end up happening, no sane person can play as much Pokémon as he does and not take a break every once in a while. It’s fine though I’ll just rewatch his old vids until he comes back
Hey Jrose just wanted to pass along the feedback that this was one of my favorite videos. Very good balance of timing and detailed analysis. Although imo, a bit underrated - other than Brock, Pinsor rolled throught the game. Keep up the great work, enjoy the gen 1 videos
the game doesn't know what to do when you're surfing along the coastline because coast tiles are not considered water or grass tiles so instead when you get an encounter on those tiles it loads the list of the most recent grass tile you've been to (in this case the grass patch south of pallet town) and pulls a random pokemon from it. this is often exploited to encounter and catch safari zone pokemon outside of the safari zone thanks to the fact you can use your pokemon in an encounter normally and not have to rely on safari balls/bait/rocks
as I watch these videos, I always wonder why you do things you do... but after watching so many. I start to understand why. because you explain things here and there. but not overly so, so I'm not berated with them. thanks for great content.
Even as horrible as it is in competitive, it still has pretty good bulk, and even with halved Attack for 5 turns, Regigigas has such high base Attack that for a solo playthrough, it shouldn't be _that_ big of a deal. Plus, for a longer battles, Slow Start will eventually wear off, after which Regigigas will be a monster.
16:44 sorry, but did you just encounter a tangela in the water? I'm guessing it's cos you're technically touching the "land" to the left, but I can't find any information about this or why it happened online. I'm really not sure what to look up for this, all I can find is people talking about tangela in the safari zone, or if I omit tangela in the search query, people just talking about surfing and fishing in general. How do I find information on this bug and how does it work? Thanks :D I'm sure it's not that interesting, especially compared to every other weird quirk in gen 1, but my fascination has been peaked
Everything good jrose? You’ve not put a video up in a while and was wondering if your doing okay in this shit world we live in? I’m hoping it’s because your struggling with an impossible run?
I think it would be nice to see the full tier list but just broken into two columns (kept in order, just the left side being the higher tiers and right side being lower tiers). That way, we can still see the overview more easily, and also it would show up on the video format and aspect ratio easily. To differentiate evolved and non evolving Pokemon from the first forms and such, you could maybe add icons or change the font or font color.
Pinsir will always be my favorite bug type, always felt like everyone gave scyther the love instead and I think the big beetle boi deserves more appreciation
The only time OHKO moves are worth it is if you can set their accuracy with a move like Mind Reader to make them not miss on the next turn. In reality this would be super prediction reliant, but in game, its pretty fun since the AI almost never switch. Only the Poliwrath line and Articuno are able to pull this off, which makes it fairly unique. I also like how Poliwrath can learn Hypnosis and Dynamic Punch, so you can go all in on the Mind Reader even if Focus Punch is probably the better option when its available
@@Seraphic_Radiance That is actually correct. Gen 1 is the only generation where the accuracy of OHKO moves can be buffed in the typical way. After gen 1, OHKO moves accuracy uses a formula based on the Pokemon's level that is entirely independent of accuracy boosts

I much prefer Scyther to Pinsir but in this gen it's clear which is the better mon. Things might have been different if Pokémon actually got decent movesets in gen I

Hey Jrose, loving that you're fully into the middle third of the dex now! As you start to run low on single form and first stage train wrecks are you planning to do any mid-gen pokemon? While if the first stage beats the game it's clear the second will, but it would be interesting to see if any middle stage pokemon can beat their final form or lose to their first stage due to levelup break points, levelup learnsets, or typing working against some evolutions.
Its entirely possible that evolved pokemon with all around better movesets and stats still lose to the first form pokemon simply because they need more exp to lv up. So yes, its absolutly worth doing evolved pokemon to find these surprising pokemon
@@alexanderlong.7234 Mons of the same evolutionary line all share the same exp group. Otherwise we would have weird instances of Pokemon losing levels upon evolution.

I predict that Venomoth will have the easier time at the elite 4 but Butterfree will have an easier time getting the 8 badges. Butterfree learns sleep powder super early but venomoths typing will screw with Lorelei and Lance's AI making those fights more consistent
Those guillotine hits were insane. makes me wonder what a gulliotine only run would look like
Accuracy X breaks the move.
You'd still need another move for ghost types, like fissure.
Btw, Accuracy X effect is the same in Gen II core games afaik.
Oh yeah, it's time to pinsir it up!
Pinsir is an underrated beast of gen1, let's see how it does!
Honestly you are the best part of my day when you upload, thanks for the awesome videos!!
How did Guillotine work so well against Koga's Pokémon when none of them have necks?
It squished the hell out of them instead.
Mate, I checked UA-cam every day since Sunday to check for this upload! Living in fear of you going into hibernation again. Loving this content.
The biggest takeaway from watching all this is that as a kid I was wrong for thinking non-damage moves were useless.
(11:45) Wow, that's about a 0.81% (1/123) chance to land Guillotine four times in a row!
(12:40) LOL, Gen. 1 miss FTW.
(12:57) Okay, relying on just one Guillotine hit instead of getting four in a row is fairer.
(17:00) Yep, this game is crazy. Odds of four consutive critical hits from Pinsir is about 0.0007596% (1/1316). (Although, to be fair, the attack that finished off the crippled Rapidash wasn't a crit.)
(28:24) "I think we've got this." But, I notice there's still 9 minutes left of the video, so...
(29:58) Yep, I saw that coming. Darned critical hit at the worst time, as expected.
(34:40) 1 HP and a dream!
(36:18) This time, no untimely crit on Charizard, and that's game!
(36:41) Yeah, it won't be long before we need a microscope to read the text, especially as you approach 151 entries.
(37:38) Except Caterpie, Metapod, and Magikarp, who absolutely cannot beat the game solo, because they have no way of hitting ghosts at all. (Also, Weedle and Kakuna are just so bad they surely won't be able to get past certain fights like Agatha without heavy item spam in battle.)
I gotta admit, when I saw your Red/Blue single pokemon runs I thought it was a waste of time and id never watch the whole 50 min video.... But I was wrong and ive been addicted to your videos ever sense lol. Just subbed and keep the videos coming :D. They are great!
Oho! Didn't expect this so soon! Let's see how the oversized nail cutter does.
This is the most unique palette yet, looks like an old movie.
This video gets the OG Bug Catcher’s stamp of approval! 👍
Awesome run Jrose, clutch victory at the end. I literally cheered at the end when you won!
Now THERE’S that monotone colour scheme we’ve been looking for! Nowhere else can you get such a revolting brown. Excellent stuff, and excellent video Jrose.
this is why Pinsir is Heracross's Rival instead of syther's
Jrose, you have the perfect upload schedule, I swear every time I feel like watching a solo Pokémon run, you're right there with an upload 👍
Has anyone else been anticipating a new Jrose video for the past week?
Uh oh. The guy has a history of disappearing for months at a time. Here's to hoping he doesn't.
NO WAY, i was in withdrawal so I was rewatching the gold/silver minimum battles and then this vid pops up lets gooo
Hey JRose, I hope you’re doing well. I look forward to your videos coming out and it has been over two weeks. I hope you’re taking extra time for creative ideas and such but if things aren’t well your audience is here for you!!!!! We love you and your content!!!
I definitely have a jrose shaped hole in my heart, but I honestly expected this to end up happening, no sane person can play as much Pokémon as he does and not take a break every once in a while. It’s fine though I’ll just rewatch his old vids until he comes back
Awesome video, Pinsir was surprising in this one. Can't wait for you to do another Hoenn run as those are my favorite!!
Come oooooon jrose I am going crazy checking this channel for a new video 😂😂😂
I have to travel for work, so I'm away from family and feeling kind of lonely. This helps more than you know. Thanks JRose
Hey Jrose, dunno if you see these, but hope you're doing ok! Long time no video! We're thinking of you!
Watching your videos I breezed through a Pokémon blue run at 20 levels lower then the elite four and champion. Love the videos
Bug and steel are my 2 favorite types, this one’s going to be good.
Hey Jrose just wanted to pass along the feedback that this was one of my favorite videos. Very good balance of timing and detailed analysis. Although imo, a bit underrated - other than Brock, Pinsor rolled throught the game. Keep up the great work, enjoy the gen 1 videos
16:44 how did you get a Tangela while surfing? Some Gen I jank?
the game doesn't know what to do when you're surfing along the coastline because coast tiles are not considered water or grass tiles so instead when you get an encounter on those tiles it loads the list of the most recent grass tile you've been to (in this case the grass patch south of pallet town) and pulls a random pokemon from it. this is often exploited to encounter and catch safari zone pokemon outside of the safari zone thanks to the fact you can use your pokemon in an encounter normally and not have to rely on safari balls/bait/rocks
Been watching these every night before bed can't get enough of these hope hunter is coming soon was my favorite as a kid
Jrose hiatus once again fbm 😔
as I watch these videos, I always wonder why you do things you do... but after watching so many. I start to understand why. because you explain things here and there. but not overly so, so I'm not berated with them. thanks for great content.
Jrose! Are you ok!? It's been so long and I'm worried Lt. Surge is getting promoted! I hope you and your pokemon are alright! ❤
These videos are total nostalgia from playing Pokémon games on my game boy on every road-trip as a child
Im curious how a regigigas run would go despite being a legendary it has an achilles heel ability.
Regigigas won't be hard but it would take time
16:44 sorry, but did you just encounter a tangela in the water? I'm guessing it's cos you're technically touching the "land" to the left, but I can't find any information about this or why it happened online. I'm really not sure what to look up for this, all I can find is people talking about tangela in the safari zone, or if I omit tangela in the search query, people just talking about surfing and fishing in general. How do I find information on this bug and how does it work? Thanks :D
I'm sure it's not that interesting, especially compared to every other weird quirk in gen 1, but my fascination has been peaked
Everything good jrose? You’ve not put a video up in a while and was wondering if your doing okay in this shit world we live in? I’m hoping it’s because your struggling with an impossible run?
Resets Koga on a 1 in 100 lucky streak... beats him with a lucky 1 in 256 miss... Love the content, keep it up! :D
Beedrill: IM ALWAYS BETTER
Butterfree: IM MORE POPULAR
Sycther: Stop the cap
Pinsir: Are you sure about that
Damn.. 3 weeks since this one came out? Been awhile since it has taken you this long. Hope everything is okay.
Made it a month now
I'm going through withdrawals
The disrespect to Swift 5 minutes in! It was your MVP attack on that run! 🤣
Wouldn't mind seeing a vulpix run. Always liked that one.
I also like how Poliwrath can learn Hypnosis and Dynamic Punch, so you can go all in on the Mind Reader even if Focus Punch is probably the better option when its available
i'm fairly certain early (maybe still?) speedruns of gen 1 used nidoking with horn drill and x accuracies. granted that is using items, but...
And Smeargle
@@Seraphic_Radiance you’re correct. It’s one of the easiest trainer ID based glitched encounters to get. Then x acc + horn drill is just a sweep.
I really want the catch em all videos to continue through gen 5, gen 6 etc. They are nice and educational and much appreciated!
Yeah great vid bro I thought the3rd and 7th gyms were incredibly interesting. Yes I watched this in 10x like I play my runs. And yes I have the advantage of being subscribed to Jrose 11
Based. I watch the full vid cause I have no life
Hope you're doing fine man, really love your videos and challenges with Pokemon! I'll see you when you come back!
Dying slowly of no Jrose11 post. Painful. Please help
Ikr, he must be busy
I don’t know why, but there’s something really satisfying about when you do one Pokémon from a group (exclusives, starters, etc) and then the next video is the other part of that pair
I much prefer Scyther to Pinsir but in this gen it's clear which is the better mon. Things might have been different if Pokémon actually got decent movesets in gen I
Had to stop the video to point out the encounter glitch where you got a Tangela while surfing. That's pretty cool!
i am running dry on jrose content
This run was pretty amazing to watch! Always a treat when a new JRose video drops
Jrose can we see a duotrio video. It has pretty good speed, drill peck, body slam reflect/mimic and agility. For Brock it has growl and furry attack 🤔 maybe it won't be so bad ?
Great video, I always loved Scyther more than Pinser, never realized how good he was back then but I have had a good time with Pinser in later games, nice to see how this went.
You guys know that pi trainer in DPP that has a goldeen with horn drill? Well once in Platinum, it hit 5 TIMES in a row and swept my whole team!
That trainer class is called the Gambler in Japan, and was localized to PI because the ESRB was very skittish about any mention of gambling. So it seems this Gambler won the lottery.
cant wait to see kabuto/kabutops. found the channel 2 weeks ago, im obsessed lol. for this channel alone i may start liking every video in hopes to see more content. ty for making the videos jrose.
How was that possible ? All of Koga's Pokemon were french nobility, so the Guillotine was 'SUPER EFFECTIVE'
