Most of the taxes in SA are paid by 4 million workers in the upper income brackets of which a sizeable number are foreigners. There is no way we would have ANC iff everyone who voted paid tax as painfully as, for instance, I do. Just no way.

What I don't get about Marxist-Leninist governments is that it is a system without any means of self-correction. It openly and unashamedly discourages freedom of speech, often with deadly force. But who then will be able to tell a government where and how it is making mistakes? When the entire citizenry is incentivised only to comply with the government instead of being curious and asking questions, how does a government improve itself? There seems to be no intrinsic mechanism for this in Socialism so one can only assume that such a government will inevitably stagnate and die due to it's own weakness and inability to adapt. This then begs the question why anyone in today's modern era (I'm looking at you, Cyril) would still consider it to be a viable system.
