Hi Neil, Thanks for the great in depth video. I am considering one of these, and this helped me decide. Funny how you always get one TROLL, who delights in rubbishing good videos that people have taken the time to film for the benefit of others. They are often people who do not have the practical ability to adapt and get the most out of what is a classic trailer tent. Good work.
I had a very early dandy destiny with glass windows , and a strange canopy type awning . We made do with a powered cool box , and 2 ring cooker and grill . No heating. Porta potty in an outside toilet tent , no fun in the rain . But we had some wonderful holidays in Devon Dorset and Cornwall , over 5 years . Happy days .
I really enjoyed your vid. Looks cosy and camping is always fun especially for youngsters. Would love to have a Dandy one day. You can travel anywhere with one.
I know this is an old video, but I'm hoping someone might be able to offer some guidance. Is it possible for a Dandy Destiny like this to be put up alone, assuming that the person doing so is reasonably strong and fit?
I had 3 different models of Dandy over the years, the last a 2004 Riva. I gave up on them in the end. OK you can pack them away wet but in contrast to that MUCH harder to put up than the Conway, Pennines and Trigano, no real problem packing these away wet, when home open them out! Still raining? Leave them until it stops, the same as you would leave it open on a site for a fortnight of rain! Also with built in blown air heating on the others, drying canvas out from the inside is easy, when the rains stops. Flush toilets, hot and cold water, sorry these are way behind the times and over priced. And yours is desperate for at least a wash!
If you found put up a Dandy hard, you must have been doing something wrong! Oh, and our Dandy has hot blown air heating... And You can get a Dandy with Flush toilet etc.. Yup it could do with a scrub up.. and you know why? Because were too busy out camping!!
I never said it was hard to put up, I said it was harder than the Conways, Pennines and Triganos, which it is. If you think different try one of those. A Trigano sails up in comparison to the heave you have to give the door side of the Dandy, to get it even started to go up. The top of the range Dandy is the Dimension and they don't have a flush toilet the same as they don't have hot water!
And if your Dandy has blown air heating, it wont be factory installed. Only heating they fitted was floor mounted now discontinued because it doesn't meet regs. Nor can you buy awnings for them so yes, I think they're a bit behind the times to say the least!
edward charles Sorry your very wrong once again. The Blow air system in our Dandy (Propex) was indeed factory fitted, and of course you can buy awnings that will fit the Dandy.
Yes Neil you can buy awnings but I think you missed the point! You CAN'T but DANDY awnings! Nor can you buy RIVA awnings. And - wait for it - guess who makes PROPEX heaters? Dandy? NO Propex!!! You are claiming points for what you can ADD to a Dandy through independent makers, as you can with any trailer, camper or caravan. I'm stating you CANNOT buy them as made by the trailer maker for your particular trailer. If I'm wrong phone Riva and try and order a awning for yours.
I really think UK should take a leaf out of USA and their folding campers. Much easier to put up, Just two things to do on them and you are out of the weather.
George Lee - do you mean trailer tents as I haven't seen any folding campers - including US ones here on YT - that are much different to the Dandys in terms of putting up? I'd love some names of makes/models - never know someone might be importing them and selling in Europe.
Tanya Fabian Not at all, once you have the hang of it, you pitch up, and are set up in 15 minutes. Agree it takes longer to put up the awning! But to set up the Dandy from start to finish is as easy as 123, abc
Tanya Fabian the beauty of these is everything is off the ground, you can set it up in a gravel car park if you want. no canvas to rot, you can put it away wet, the smaller model weighs next to nothing, fabulous fuel economy, they dont make them any more but they are still commanding high second hand prices because they have such a good reputation. i wish i could get plans i would build one myself : ) i think the onl;y downside is the horrendous colour schemes on earlier models.
Neil Sandra Wow that was Amazing how quick you Put your Dandy up , Thanks for sharing 👍👍
Hi Neil,

That's the great thing about the Dandy Heritage, we have all had some wonderful holidays and memories in them.

Nice camper design, looks like good quality.
interesting unit, I've never seen a design like that before. nice vid, I like the different types of campers y'all have in Europe.
Thanks Neil, very helpful.
Great video thanks for posting.

Yes you can. Getting gas struts fitted will also help
How did you fit your awning rail ?
Got an external one, attached with self tappers.
@@NeilTaylor Thankyou I got the same awning as that one you had .
By the way, the Pennines, Conway and Trigano all come with full awning, unlike Dandy, no longer made hence the make do and mend slap on tent.
Wrong! Dandy/Riva Did make full size awnings. Its just that I prefer the Drive-aways...
DID make but no longer. Stopped making them years ago!
So you don't have a choice really - drive away or none at all!
Or, you can use a fixed frame awning that Dandy Made ;)
If you can find one!

15 minutes..........
Wow. that looks a lot more complicated than putting up an American style pop-up (tent) camper trailer.
