ROWVEMBER: Shifting Gears on a Rower??
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 чер 2024
- In this Rowvember workout, we're teaching you how to work on those gears! Yep, you heard me - rowing has gears! Well, kind of… we have that wonderful metric of how fast you can move up and down the monorail, and what better way to test your control of that than have you hit a solid 20 minutes of working through those SPMs with a good little push right at the end.

First time rower. I'm IN, with ya'All!
Cool caddy for the water bottle. Where could I find something like that?
Plugging away. At 63 yrs old. Obese. Diabetic. The Concept 2 model D is the perfect machine for me. Having some mild low back issues likely due to placement of my butt on my memory foam seat and trying to keep my back on a straight plan while using my hips as the sway point to avoid hunching over and pulling too far back. I put on only 4127m including the warm up and cool down. Been on the machine for almost a month and try to put in at least 5 out of 7 days a week. So far so great. Thanks for the impart of your vast knowledge.
2/8/2023 (I typed the wrong date yesterday, had to correct it🤓) Thank you Coach Shane!🎉 Even your music sounds like it is saying, "I'm on it, I'm on it!" The music helps so much - thanks for taking time to include it! 🎶🎺🎹🥁
Perfect!
4.570m…proud….many thanks Shane…..lets keep rowing!!!
New to rowing.. Did rowvember 2021 via email only; finally watching videos. 4034m on this workout today. Thank you for rowvember and your videos.
This was a good one. I think I would to expand that one. I wish I had long legs, lol. I am all of 5'03", so I really have to push these little legs. 4,020 meters 😀
3/16/2023 Struggling with my consistency this last week--we are about to sell our house so a lot is happening. Excited to discover my settings were too low today, though!!🎉 Thank you Coach Shane ☺️
4646m. Thank you Shane for pushing. Rowvember is off to a smashing start. Take care.
This is only my first month with a rowing machine, 12/15/2022, and this workout was fantastic! Thank you for the excellent coaching, and for describing your program's name "Dark Horse" which feels EXACTLY like where I am at in life! Thank you, too for explaining some of the actual rowing terms and telling of some of your experiences on an actual rowing team! How exciting! I am now 57 and have only discovered this sport within the last 5 or 6 years. Thank you again forEXCELLENT coaching!!🌟
I'm here with you! I've had a rower getting dusty for many years and I finally have a nice space to use it. Loving the dark horse videos and Shane. I go through them and add to my watch list. Going to do this one right now.
Keep up the good work!
This was fun! Doing all Rowvember, even tho I also take Pilates almost every day. Hell, I’m that 71 year old granny…gotta do it! Got to 3790 or so…and happy to do so. Shane, you make it fun for all of us…so glad you’re here!!
Just got back am the tower after having a cold and man, that got my lungs working again!❤️🔥
New to rowing, had my Concept 2 for about a month. Before signing up to Rowvember , I have was using your beginner tutorials, which have been fantastic. Loved that I could row along with you on this one, all I needed to think about was keeping good technique and keeping in time with you. Loving the daily workouts, thank you!
Welcome aboard Caroline! Glad to have you rowing with us.
Been sick past 2 weeks but Day 1 Rovember in the books! 3003m for me. Great workout! Thank you Shane!🙌🏻
Yes these make it easier to do the workout
I’m so in I rescheduled (elective) surgery so I wouldn’t have to miss a day! #ROWVEMBER !!!
What is the thing you use to hold your bottle?
Love Rowvember and loved this workout, if for nothing else than the rate changes. Had to write it out and tape it to the PM5. Glad I did, as the numbers started to jump around in my mind during the last build progression. When the numbers don’t make sense, you know you are doing it right! 😂
It’s Christmas Eve and I just completed this interval type workout! It was fantastic! I’m 67 years old and just got my rower. The beginner lessons were soooo great! Thank you….hopefully I will join the community.
Thanks! I've been rowing this pretty much every day, and my distance is improving at the same time that my technique is! I'll be signing up for the next Rowvember for sure!
Wow, this is really appreciated, Tim, thank you.
Day 8 in the books. Gotta tell ya, there's definitely lots of sweatin' 😓 going on this month. Thank you, Dark Horse. This my first Rowvember and I am LOVING IT!!!❤❤❤🚣🏾♀️🚣🏾♀️🚣🏾♀️
Love Rowvember! And the additional Monday videos…thanks and keep up the great work!
Started this journey with dark horse doing the beginner 10 minutes and could barely knock them out only a few short months ago. Cholesterol through the roof, 35 pounds over weight. Lost all of it, down to 185, normal cholesterol, doing the 30 minute work outs 4 days a week with the hour lo fi row once a week. Appreciate the hard work Shane, today’s workout 5193 meters. Signed up for rowvember as well.
Yessss. Going on Day 8! I don't think I've ever worked out 8 days in a row. This is gonna be epic! I see the difference in my body and mind. So grateful for this 🙏 🙌
Thank you, Shane! This is my first Rowvember, going on year 2 with The Crew. I love the discipline and attention to technique. Here’s to 14,000 Dark Horses who will hopefully complete this 2021 row your face off challenge. Keep on rowing, DHs!
Great flashback to Body for Life 20-minute aerobic solution! Thanks for helping me stay on track with my lifelong commitment wellness! Mondays are my reset day, no matter how the previous week went. My dark horse reason: to hold my future great grandchild in my arms: both of us alert, healthy and happy to be ALIVE!
Appreciate all that you do.
Shane, thanks for always helping me find more in the tank than I thought I had. Another great session ✨
Love ❤your energy, knowledge and workouts! 🙋♀️💪
I love being able to offer it to all of you!
So funny I was on my way home thinking of my upcoming rowing workout and which video to use and I started thinking about the name dark horse and why you’d chosen it. So when you started explaining it in this video I had to laugh out loud! Thanks for all the amazing content!
I’m new to rowing to get healthy for me. This workout was FANTASTIC! I think I only lost a few strokes and I feel amazing. Thank you so much. I want legs like that.
'Beautiful luscious legs'..ha. im still waiting for mine!😂 Nice one to start back from slight injury. Thanks Shane. Lift me out of the 'dark' last 2 years. Thanks. 1 May 23 🏖
I started racing Dragonboats competitively this past summer. I love that your workouts are easy to keep up with and keeps me in the mindset of watching my pacer. Only made 3770-ish meters, but it felt solid!
I enjoy this workout! That's a good step up and definitely gets me sweating gets me through my different heart zones! Thanks for posting these
Also… I completed my day 7 today and one thing that really helped me get a steady rate was using your breathing technique… matching my breathing to the stroke was a game changer!
Thank you, love your workout and style
Thank you, loved it!!
#Rowvember day 15 in the books. Mental preparation needed to work at the anaerobic threshold for two minutes. I know what free diving must feel like as they approach the surface after a record attempt. Feels so go after it’s done! Thanks Shane.
Shane, thanks for leading me through a quick Thanksgiving day workout between cooking tasks!! I am beyond grateful for you❤️.
Day 8 done, Many thanks👍
Loving Rowvember.
I really enjoyed this one!
I'm loving this challenge. I bought a concept about 2 months ago and have only used it about 5 times. with this challenge I've used it already 8 extra times loving it and I think it's going to be one of my new favorite workouts. thank you for this challenge and I would love if you could do a video explaining how to set these challenges up like the punchy challenge into our rower to figure out how to use it better
I am proud that I can match the catch and stroke rate some of the time. I’ll be working on the stroke rate timing more often than not. Good workout.
#1stRowvember 🙋♀️
❤❤❤❤InLove❤❤❤❤
Thank you!!!
4014 meters during the workout. I need to work on my stroke length obviously! I will only make it through three weeks of Rowvember due to a medical procedure lopping off the last week. I will save the workouts and finish when cleared. Thanks for the motivation Shane!
Late to the party but committed now!! Clocked 4735m on my first Rovember! Love it! Should we do it on days we work out weights??
great workout enjoy every day
Exhilarating; thank you :)
Know it’s not November but thanks for a quick, fun workout! 😀
My second time doing this one and I beat my original score with over 4600m (w cool down 5100)! When I did this day 8 of ROWVEMBER I barely got 4035m! Thanks Shane! This was a wild one.
4137m. Thanks again for a great workout!
William Bessey here!!
Made 4850 Meters at the end. 5323 total!
Love these workouts signed up as soon as I saw the promo video for it. My first time doing this and coming from someone that's never worked out a day in my 29 years. It is freaking awesome!! Thanks Shane and the darkhorse team!! I'm under 300lbs as of last week and I'm shooting for hitting 270lbs by December 1st!!
Great workout (even though I missed it in Rowvember). I really like the visual reminder at the catch as each rate changes. One note: The first time you get back to 20 (I think it's at 9:00), the graphic continues to say "Stroke Rate 26" for those two minutes.
I didn’t reset but saw 5330 before cool down (which includes 250-ish from the warmup) Very happy when a “sprinting” stroke rate stays below 28 SPM 😉
4965 meters. not bad! took me awhile to figure out why Shane would go so much farther at same pace. More power, sure. But also longer legs! Dark Horse has been a godsend to using my concept2 effectively and consistently.
How do I access previous workouts I want to catch up? I love the guided workouts. I started rowing at the gym where I only focussed on high stroke rate 30 plus. With your workouts you reinforce proper form and rhythm presenting a new challenge!
Started Day 8 here in Berlin with a 4k morning row. Rowvember mails arrive shortly after 10 am and as they usually are challenging, I prefer to take it easy in the morning. In the afternoon I went for a 6k run as a warmup followed by some of Your streching routine, wrote the 20spms down on a post-it and went for it. I actually extended to 25 minutes + 3 minutes cool down - I prefer to finish my sessions with a cool down until my heart rate drops down. to 110 or 100. So far I managed to follow all days and found most of the challenges more intimidating then they actually were. The only one I did not like was day 3 (20 spm with 30 spm bursts). I generally don't like the very high frequencies as I ALLWAYS row watching the force curve and with high spms I see that I tend to loose form. It's OK if I gradually raise the frequency, but with the jump from 20 to 30 for just 30 seconds I realized that I was not well prepared at the catch - it became just too hectical and I even slightly hurt my back due to bad posture. Everything was fine next morning but this one was not really satisfying. Due to a self set eager target of currently 11k / day I'm not sure If I'll be able to follow all days, but I'll surely do my best. I'm wondering, if we'll see days that are more of a rest type or if all of them will be challenging - either way, I love Rowvember! Thanks Shane! Regards Frank
CAn you start sharing your suggested damper settings? Or is that something that is personal pref?
Rowvember day 3 was awesome, day 6 nearly killed me!
4046 not bad as for a lightweight female:) loving the Rovember that far, I'm doing it with my partner who's done it last year, and it's pretty exciting to discuss (and often dread) the workout in the morning;D thank you:)!
Giving your 14 day free trial a shot as I just signed up! This ones a Greg’s workout as well requiring as much mental focus on stroke rate as it does physical exertion. Also, I just noticed your water bottle side kick there on your Concept2 which I don’t have. I couldn’t find it any of your links below to purchase so if can reply it that’d be awesome! Thanks Shane 🏇💪🏽👍🏽!
I enjoy that
Great row today! Made is 4300 meters.
5K (22min@2:13/26spm) warm up, 4757m on the workout (521m behind Shane), 2.3K (12min@2:37/22spm) cool down (aiming for around 10K+ every day).
Row Erg was a birthday present for myself back in June, it was delivered 1st August, I need to row another 60K for my first million metres (1 week to go)!
I am 53, 6'4" (1.93m), started in August at 17stone (240lbs/108Kg), already down to 15st 4lb (214lbs/97Kg), my spare tyre is deflating nicely.
I rowed in school (sculls, pairs, fours, eights - coxed/coxless) and tried to continue at University but the rest of the crew never showed up.
Slowly piled on the pounds due to sedentary lifestyle, failed with most diets - just put the weight back on afterwards and always felt hungry.
I had been thinking about a C2 Rower for several years, but never ready to bite the bullet, so glad I finally did (I love rowing).
After ordering and having multiple delays on delivery, I watched a large section of the DH back catalogue of videos for inspiration.
Almost collapsed doing a 2K at the start of August with a time of 9:28, at the start of November I was down to 7:45 and could certainly do better (this was the 2K part of Rowvember Day 5).
Started my training in August doing the 'Dog Days of Summer' C2 challenge as this is a slow ramp up and coincided with my new purchase.
I now do a mix of C2 WoDs, C2 challenges (484,666m for team DH in the Fall Team Challenge), DH workouts, I also try and mix in the Cross Team Challenge of the month (I arranged for DH to be added as a team and would love some company), the Indoor Rower monthly challenge and also keep track of my progress in the Nonathlon (still need to do a full marathon to earn the bonus points) and my own spreadsheet of distances/times for PBs. I usually aim to have 1 day off a week to recover (not happening during Rowvember).
Loving Rowvember, I usually add a low heart rate 5K 'fat burner' warm up at the start and a 12+min cool down. I signed up 2 days late (plus they arrive around 09:00, and I workout from 06:30), so I am a little behind, but this means I may avoid the current mailing issue affecting delivery of the daily Rowvember WoDs.
I missed Rowvember so I am doing FebROWary. 😄
Rowvember going strong! #LFG
Thank you for this!
Thanks for another great workout! Can I please check if joining the team means we get access to daily videos? I’m finding it’s harder to train alone following email program?
Hi Srinivasan, The Crew has lots of workouts and daily workouts with our coaching staff. There is not a new workout with Shane every day. But absolutely a community of people bonded together over rowing and able to support you in your rowing journey. Hope you join us! -Team Dark Horse
I know it's been a minute since you recorded this but why haven't you ever addressed resistance settings? Thanks, Sam
Week 1 started with too much intense volume too soon... 6,300m of "work" at 2k-5k intensity in the first 2 days was a warning sign to me, by day 3 I was already feeling it. Sorry, dropped out of your rowvember program and have kept going daily to complete a rowvember nonetheless. Still love your channel and your content though so good luck to everyone still going!
I am rehabbing from total knee replacement. I do not yet have clearance to return to rowing.
I am wondering the best way to begin again.
4860 meters for me. What drag factor are you using? Great rowvember so far!
Between 4 and 7.5. alcia12165
3800 meters!
4917, commin for ya!
I love the workouts and would like to participate to the rowvember 2022. Where can I find the link. Can you put it in the comments.
Check the community tab on my channel page
Here and hit 3850m! Taking notes because I know I can do better (4000m with day 7 workout).
Hit 4050m the second time around. Love this workout!
Why am I not getting the Rowvember workouts in my email any more? I received the first 8 days, but did not receive one yesterday (11/9) or today.
Wobbling legs for sure.
How can we sign up for Rowvember?
I signed up for the Rowvember and I get the email daily - but i dont get a link to a video to follow......should there be a video link to click? If so, where is it - how do i find it - and if no link, how do i find it on your channel? Thank you.
4324 meters during the 20 minutes of the workout itself.
Thank you for pushing me , 5363 m
The last email I got was on the 7th. Have you stopped sending out the workouts via email?
😤😤💪🏽💪🏽🥵🥵
Are all the rowvember workouts on you tube?
Shane only puts the Monday workouts up on UA-cam. The rest come via email if you sign up for the challenge.
Thanks ! I saw that after i posted the question.
