WW1 Christmas Truce

  • The year was 1914. The warring countries in WW1 had discussed a cease fire to celebrate Christmas, but no agreement was made. However, on the night of Christmas, an unofficial cease fire was declared. How did this happen? Well, many German and British soldiers sang Christmas carols to each other. Then, a few German soldiers approached the British trenches, completely unarmed. The British soldiers were afraid this could be a trick, but they trusted their gut. This then evolved into a shared celebration that included the exchange of gifts, singing, and even soccer. This peace lasted two days and a half.

It wasn't the soldiers that decided to go back and fight again. It was their horrified officers that ordered their troops to quit fraternizing with the enemy.

@Linux user no, what you are stating is purely propaganda, the germans did not rape the Belgians, mostly these sayings were made up by countries such as canada and the Uk, who also said that the germans crucified a soldier, it is not accurate and should not be acceptable by any means especially of modern standards, the german soldiers were not brutes, the only reason for that saying was to support the war, and for the outrage of the public which was to spark the movment of enlistment, many soldiers german or not were human and not monsters, these lies underline the justifications used to wage war against the germans, and should not be the image of the german soldier of ww1.

It's December 25th 1914, the Vichy regime led by Philippe Pétain is in power of France for 3 months now, Charles de Gaulle, the leader of Free France, is still exiled in London, the United States is still not in the war, and in the eastern front, the British and the Russians are fighting the Austro-Hungarians and the Germans, when suddenly, a truce is now made, where for one day, they would not fight, and that day is today, and you, a French living in the new regime, tune your radio to Radio Paris, and you hear that in the eastern front, war has stopped temporarily for one day, thinking that it was just propaganda, you then tune your radio to Radio Londres, and you hear the exact same thing, you then realized that what you've heard on Radio Paris wasn't propaganda, but real news, so you tell everyone that war has stopped in the eastern front for one day, not knowing that 3 years from now, the Americans, the British and the Free French will land in Normandy to then liberate France from the Vichy regime.
