Stand up never has been my strongest side, so my game would revolve mostly on wrestling, clinch fighting and taking people to the ground. When I saw Vince grab Shane's wrists, my first instinct was to close in and pull overhooks so that maybe something to consider when trying to trap someone's hands. Someone might instinctively see you grabbing his wrists as a challenge of handfighting and will clinch up and maybe even instinctively make a double overhook throw or a monkey flip on you. It's not per se that I'm trying to say that hand trapping does not work, I just wanted to expand the discussion because your opponent might not react in a way you would expect. As always, enjoyed the video! Keep it up Shane!
I used to stiff jab upward using their wrist or hand which pushes their arms high. Then cross to the body. Do it again and Their reaction was to defy that upward motion which lowers their arms enough for a head opening. Then cross to the head. Sometimes i just look at the body and they anticipate a body shot. I motion a punch with a lower stance and spring up with an overhand. As long as you can create reaction, youre in control. Great video guys!
Glad you posted this shane, it's not always safe to assume you're safe because you're Shelled up in guard..which is a lesson i've been relearning recently 😁
Shane, could you do a video on how to deal with bad Muay Thai training sessions or post training depression generally. I know we have good days and bad days but sometimes I feel very very down after a bad session. Which then leads to me questioning my style or entire training. It makes me feel like I suck even though I don’t. Thanks!
Hey Shane. If Mayweather fought in the UFC what style would he have to change to have a chance and survive a round. And what do you see from him that he might be a little successful?
Mayweather's defensive shell is fine for 4 oz gives as the gloves aren't part of his defense. He uses his head movement, body movement, shoulders, parries and angles. His lowered arm could double as a block for kicks to the body and it's already there to aid in intercepting some take downs. It would be easy to sprawl from that position. With his movement, angles and speed he'd do fine so long as he works takedown defense and low level kick defense. No way we'll be a pro-level BJJ player in a year. Nobody in MMA will trade shots with him so they'll go for the take downs and despite preparation, they'll get him down. I doubt he fights any one other than Conor though. Actually I doubt at his age he changes sports at all.
hi shane.... I saw your vid about urbox, i think its very smart of you to train parkour too. Im a 16 years old kid who practice parkour/freerunning im expert in my team. I want to tell you to train your parkour roll and wallruns. these are the most used techniques to run away. im glad i can help you cause you helpt me to a lot.
Great tip Shane! I have been talking about hand traps on my channel. I feel like they are an amazing technique to throw off your opponent and create openings. They do on the other hand leave you open for a body shot on your lead side, so it’s good to do some variation as well.
Nice vid these are things my coach taught me and some i learned the hard way from the past years just love refreshing things, love the vids keep up the good work
Hey Shane, are you interrested in an Episode for disabled people? Me for example got a paralized arm and can almost box only with my left jab-hand, which is no problem, but the problem is that i'm open on the right head side all the time because i can't lift my right arm to my chin, neither temple. Is there any Tactics I can bait my opponents?
Raynin. cr just use a philly shell type thing even if you can’t lift your fore arm to your belly, it’s the best defense when one hand is down, also just get good footwork and head movement so you don’t have to block. The shell only works for boxing tho not mma
Raynin. cr I think you should learn how to kick. You can block punches to the right side of your head with your left forearm. And maybe try an orthodox stance.
Awesome, really find this useful! Could you do more videos regarding strategies on how to regain the pace of the fight/re-establishing control of the fight please? Thank you!
Would like to see some sparring footage implementing these techniques so we can see them in real time. Other than that another great video, thanks Shane!!
Shane I do karate 🥋 Teakwondo and judo because thare is no MMA gyms in Perth area of Scotland 🏴 and even though I do all of these I still get over powered by big guys and take it to the ground and mess me up I am without a doubt a stand up fighter and kick a little to much than what I should in a fight and need proper boxing 🥊 Training I want that clean transition between these martial arts and how to transfer them and put them together
Hi Shane love the fightTIPS I will like to see some more combination with lead Side kick (orthodox) stands head, body and head please thanks keep up the great work 👍🏼
Train the forearm muscles. While you havent train them really well, consider using handwraps. Handwraps take strain off your wrist, so you train it less. If you have problems from wrists overtraining on martial arts, consider using them for a while, train your forearms, and leave the handwraps gradually as your wrists get stronger. The muscles that move the wrist are on the forearm, that's why you want to train it for a stroger wrist.
Hey Shane, I am currently a brown belt in japanese jiu jitsu and don't feel like people know it it as well as other martial arts. So I was wondering what your opinion about the sport is and if you could cover it in a video.
Question?.......idk if I ask this here or on someone else's account below 1x, anyway;..... When sparring with traditional gloves will it work to trap hands when there up like that? (not talking about trapping jab hand) just others shown in video, haven't seen some of those technique's yet. I noticed those unique gloves with fingers and thumbs exposed? that's why I asked this question, cause team doesn't train with those. Basically every hand trap technique shown except for the jab, with regular boxing gloves?
Hey Shane just wondering if you could do more videos on boxing, nothing specific but that would be cool because I'm getting in to boxing and they might be useful thanks
Yo its me from singapore idk if u still rmb me but wtv.Today,I literally just came back from my school's first muay thai trial class and they were teaching us this...🤔🤤
As others have commented, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on wing chin and jkd. In recent ufc fight rogan said that Anthony Ferguson did a lot of training on the wing chun wooden dummy...it can be said that wing chun obsesses about hand trapping and at the level it goes to it's mostly appropriate against other wing chun practitioners who have drilled such specific trapping. It hasn't made much prominence in ufc but perhaps it could or elements of it could be developed, like in this video...
hello brother ... I've seen your videos about shin conditioning & all the shin stuffs but can you make a video on how to know if my shin is not enough conditioned or weak or at the opposite side its enough conditioned so I can get a little bit confident to throw some kicks in fights . thanks alot
Great advice, great video, as always. Question … do you have any tips for countering an opponent who likes to bum rush? For smaller guys who fight bigger guys who often blitz attack, what's the best way to either counter or get out of the way?
I was speaking with my brother today and I got him in a choke hold and I put my leg behind his and slammed him down and got top mount and one it felt great I want to learn more takedowns and defense when on the ground
Hey shane can u pls make a detailed video on mma rules and regulations and pls answer my question, is it legal in mma to crush ur opponent with the elbow point for submission? Pls answer my question.
I'm no expert, but it seems like the trapping techniques that actually work are ones implemented offensively against a defending opponent, and/or where you're predicting your opponent's movements. I see a ton of martial artists that try to do trapping techniques as a spontaneous reaction to someone's attack, and those are the ones that never seem to work. Does anyone else see this or is it just me?
I spar with a guy who is super agresive do you have a video on how to slow this guy down or maybe stifle his movements.. he's taller and has longer reach
Trapping isn't really a thing in Wing Chun. It's more efficient and effective to just hit them. Trapping hands is "chasing hands" which go against principles in wing chun. Only way a "trap" could take place is from the opponent having to stick to an attack due to overwhelming pressure.
when i first saw ur gloves i wasnt really a fan. and tbh i wasnt really a fan till like half way thru the video. they are actually a pretty good idea. its a good option for people wanting to spar hard in mma without having to use 16 oz gloves. that way you can actually grapple
Hey guys, I'm 12 and have recently become super interested in boxing. I am with a boxing gym but have Only had one lesson. I have gloves, wraps, punching bag, 2 700 gram dumbells and an exercise bike. Any tips on how to reach peak body shape and also speed, stamina and power with the equipment I own.
Different push up variations, planks, v ups, high intensity interval training ( maybe sprint a short distance , do 5 pushups, sprint again and do 5 jump squats, then repeat) and shadowboxing. When you use the punching bag to train, don't go all out and do power in every punch, use technique and maybe on the last punch use power. A relaxed punch is faster than a tense punch, so use this relaxed jab to setup for your uppercut / cross / hook or whatever is the last punch in your combo. Hope it helps, train hard!
Love how Vince manages to use EVERY single thing allowed on MMA to his advantage 8D
Gotta use all the tools!
Stand up never has been my strongest side, so my game would revolve mostly on wrestling, clinch fighting and taking people to the ground. Shane you are the man! I was just hoping for a video on how to create openings. Thanks brother!
Panantukan, Filipino dirty boxing, is big on hand trapping.
Great video as always, Shane!
One dislike from renan barao

I have been trying to buy your mma striker gloves for 3 months but I still enjoy your fighttip

Hey dude you still training? Advice to you, get different sparring partners. Sparring should be fun and effective, not a competition.
Omg Shane such a good video been doing mma 5 years this will help a lot thanks
Hey Shane. If Mayweather fought in the UFC what style would he have to change to have a chance and survive a round. And what do you see from him that he might be a little successful?
Our Pastured Farm First off he has to lose that wide stance. The wide stance is SO vulnerable to leg kicks and takedowns.
His best bet is moving from all strikes and tagging him
He would have to change his guard because of the 4oz gloves and learn how to check kicks and defend take downs
Reiss DugZ Thats right! Without those big bulky gloves he has to change the guard!
Mayweather's defensive shell is fine for 4 oz gives as the gloves aren't part of his defense. He uses his head movement, body movement, shoulders, parries and angles. A new addition to my arsenal
Bring this guy at your gym more often!

Raynin. cr footwork drills, drills to teach you to see punches ( catching punches first , then parrying , then slipping )
Can you shoulder roll?
Yes i can, i also tried but it definetly need some more experience to do it successfully
Raynin. cr just use a philly shell type thing even if you can’t lift your fore arm to your belly, it’s the best defense when one hand is down, also just get good footwork and head movement so you don’t have to block. The shell only works for boxing tho not mma

Thanks man 💪💪
*Can you make a video how I can make my wrist more resistant?*
