  • "Maggie's Guitar" plus special guests, The Maxwell Brothers, Mike DiBenedetto and the Villanova Spires paid tribute to the late Jim Croce with a concert at Upper Darby Performing Arts Center, adjacent to Upper Darby High School that Jim Croce attended. The concert raised $9,000 for a music scholarship in Jim's name.
Charles Fox, writer of the song "I Got A Name" was unable to attend but sent this video talking about how he met Jim, and why he wanted Jim to perform the song for the movie "Last American Hero".

I was only 11 years old when I heard about Jim Croce on the radio I was old enough to understand the impact that he made on music and the impression he made on me as a little boy I never played an instrument I'm just a fan but for all these years I have carried the thought of him his wife and very younge son he was more than just an artist he was husband and father I often think of him his friend that was such a wonderful guitar player and the other people who died that tragic day to all of you god bless your families RIP TO JIM I will have to say I love you in public!

Makes me smile 40 years later. This was the class song for our graduating high school class. It still means something. Thank you sir for the story.

When Jim died I was only five years old. One of my older brothers was playing the You Don’t Mess Around With Jim Album on a very long Zenith console stereo in the living room. When I walked in the room he told me who Jim was and that he had recently died. Then he gave me the album because I liked it so much. I eventually got Life and Times, I Got A Name, many compilation albums that came out after his death, and still searching for Facets and Croce. Lol

Great song. Glad so many filmmakers have used it in their soundtracks. By the way, the writers Fox & Gimbel, that very same year, won the Grammy for "Killing Me Softly With His Song".

Thank you for writing this song and Jim Croce is still making this song come alive. Only his voice could keep the song alive

I never knew that Jim Croce didn't write this. It's always been my favorite of his records.

It's about the only one of Croce's well-known songs that he didn't write.

So real … amazing to hear the story and to see you perform the song as originally written. I was probably 8 years old when I bought the album (remember those?!) and my Mom and I practically wore it out! Thanks for a great video, story, and some history!

I wonder if you folks won't do another show for 45 years, this year. I was blown away 4 years ago.

Thank you so much for your support, Zac. We'd be willing to do another show this year. The money we raised for the Jim Croce scholarship runs out this year, so the timing would be good. We were hoping that we could get Jim's son, A.J to perform this year, and we'd be the supporting act. Not up to us though, but would be great if we could pull it off.

was at the UDHS tribute. was really well done...getting AJ would be great...is he interested? That dynamic is confusing to those of us from afar.
