- Pleasing kannada bhajan by panditji. Everyone that appreciates "bhagyada lakshmi baramma" will like this immensely. I found this video on you-tube, but the uploader didn't have the right tags. A gem of a song like this needs more hits...Go for it guys! I live in Seattle and hear this great rendition almost everyday. Note MS Subbalakshmi in the audience applauding a superlative performance. Meenakshi Seshadri the bollywood star of yesteryears and Sai Baba in the audience too.
I have tried to fix the original video quality which was pretty bad. It is a brighter and lot more pleasing now. Thankfully, original audio quality was superior. Enjoy!!

There are in the hymn many sanskrit words common to both Marathi and Kannada. This is one feature that keeps me lost in the abhangs. I cannot speak Marathi, but its devotional music is within my reach.
Pandit Bhimsen Joshi's first guru was a professional washer man Chennappa Kurthkoti, who was also a singer. Kurthkoti was paid a princely sum of Rs 5 per month to teach Joshi sing. He taught the young boy to sing Raag Bhairav and Bhimpalas. Source Times of India

Even when Pandit B J sung in Parliament on the occasion of 50 years of independence, he was accompanied by Upendra Bhat in vocal support and on Harmonium was Sudhir Nayak on Harmonium both hail from Karnataka.

Thanks for posting. This one of the best Hindustani rendition . Only Pandiji could do it with melody and ಟೆಂಕಾರ (vigor). Wish other Hindustani singers learn from this and show the power/vigor of Kannada compositions which is the foundation of Karnataka music and also influenced Hindustani music.

A masterpiece from my favourite Pt. Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi. What a rare moment to also see one Bharat Ratna(M S Subbalakshmi) applauding the other Bharat Ratna i.e. Panditji. One will forget all materialism when you hear and watch him sing. Such is the impact of his singing. Please Return If Possible Panditji.

This is falls into the category of greatest renderings in Indian classical music like MS's Jagadoddarana at UN concert. It is a pleasure to see Bharata Ratna listening to another Bharata Ratna. Wish India will see such artists again. Thanks a lot for posting.
BTW : It is said that Joshiji got his first training from a guru who was a washer-man (Dhobi or Agasa in Kannada) in profession. The unique style for Joshji might have originated from all parts of society.

Wonderful! Accompanying Panditji are, on tabla,Shri. Ravindra Yavagal, on harmonium, Shri. Ravindra Katoti, on tanpuras (next to harmonium) is Shri. Vinayaka Torvi and on the other tanpura is Shri. Govind Rotti. I am unaware of the names of the other two accompanying stage members.
On Taal it is Surmani Dr. Dattatreya Velankar ji, Bengaluru a renowned vocalist
