- Michael Petherick from @Doing It Ourselves opens the last of his huge haul of gifts at the Chateau de Lalande before returning to the Chateau de la Basmaignee to continue work on his cottage...
In 'Cadeaux at the Chateau', all of the inhabitants of the Chateau de Lalande gather together to open beautiful gifts that people have sent from all over the world. All of the monetisation from these videos will be donated to a different charity each month. UA-cam earnings fluctuate wildly each month, as ad revenue changes throughout the year. Here are the charities that we've donated to so far:
July 2020:
British Heart Foundation UK (in memory of my father) €634
August 2020:
Alzheimer's Research UK (in memory of all of the residents of my parents' nursing homes) €350
September 2020:
Prostate Cancer Foundation (in memory of Selmar's father) €1255
October 2020:
Medecins sans Frontieres (chosen by my mother to support vaccinations in Africa) €942 (equivalent to 426 cholera vaccinations)
November & December 2020 & Jan & Feb 2021:
A Lalande Fashion Scholarship for a student at the Villioti Fashion Institute in South Africa €5500
March 2021:

I used to show the gifts as part of 'The Chateau Diaries' episodes, but you're all so very generous that we have many gifts, and if we spent the episodes opening them, we wouldn't be able to show you other aspects of chateau life! So, for those of you who enjoy watching presents being opened, and as a way to thank those of you who were kind enough to send them, I've made this new channel. Every week we will film your beautiful gifts whilst enjoying afternoon tea or aperitif together.
It is very important to me that you know that we in no way expect anyone to send us gifts. I would like to go further than that and add that, if doing so will put you in any financial difficulty whatsoever, please, please do not send us anything. Knowing that you join us by watching 'The Chateau Diaries' gives us all an enormous boost. But for those of you who have sent these incredibly thoughtful gifts, I hope that seeing us open them gives you a fraction of the joy that you've given us, and that by monetising this channel for charity we can pass on that joy to others 💖💖💖

Receiving those moccasin made by a First Nations Person is a great honour.
One of my dearest friends was from Ohsweken - he often told me about making his moccasins. Sadly he passed away before I had a chance to get him to teach me his skills. Isabel will find them very comfy to wear. Lovely gift.

Hello Michael! I have to tell you that at 81 y/o, old age is like a tape recorder....the closer you get to the end, the faster the tape reel goes....hahahahaha Enjoy you time here, it is wonderful and fast moving!

Philip is so talented at mending broken porcelain. It takes a good eye, a steady hand, and an amazing amount of patience.
Philip, would you do a video about how you repair broken things? My mother had beautiful china from Europe growing up. She was heartbroken when a piece broke. I glued several pieces back together again, it was before super glue, so I would truly love to learn how to do this! My glueing at 8 & 10 years old was not very good! Michelle
All of the gifts were so beautiful as usual, but Mummy really hit the jackpot with those gorgeous moccasins! Now that is real craftsman and something to be very proud of and we all know that Isabelle will wear them with pride, love and respect! I hope that this craft is continuing to be taught.
In our family many younger people are being taught to make them and the craft is going to carry on.

I’m proud to have spent the last 10 years operating Attractions at Disneyland, “The Happiest Place on Earth” and “Walt Disney’s Original Magic Kingdom” in Anaheim, California. Walt Disney World in Florida is a far larger place- it’s a massive resort, but there’s nothing like the magic of the original park, which changed the history of all Southern California and defined the theme park industry. We pack a huge amount of attractions and entertainment into a small space here in Anaheim, and there’s so many hidden corners and special details throughout. Yes Anna, nothing like the original Disneyland, my first visit was in 1980, have been back many times and even though other parks are bigger you can't beat it... I remember the smell of the pine trees and how beautiful it is very early in the morning as you soak up the atmosphere before lots of people arrive for a day of fun! Best wishes from Australia 🦘
Great to see Philip saved the day, it's always a worry sending china. You may like to know, you can buy small bottles of ceramic glaze - I have mended pieces that have later been through the dishwasher without problems.. Great vlog as always! 🦘

Just a little tips to people sending breakable things, so they hopefully arrive intact. Wrap each piece in several layers of boblewrap (about 3-5 layers). If it has a stem or small things sticking out ie. ears, wrap that extra well. Make sure nothing is touching each other and that there is atleast 2 inches/5 cm clearing on all sides. And fill the box with packing materials like newspapers so there isn't any room to move, but not pack it so tight that it won't cushion.

Folks if you are sending breakable things from America, you need to pack a box within a box both well cushioned. The USPS is VERY rough on packages...if you cant throw it across a room and then jump on it with confidence....then DON'T SEND IT!! Im speaking from vast shipping experience.

There is China weld glue that doesn’t yellow over time. I love the music boxes, I have the full set of books in collector boxes. 🥰 I love the idea of the silky type tea bags but.....they make little particles of plastic in your tea. I cried when I found that out because I had a nice big tin of yummy tea and had to chuck them out. 😳

Oh I do SO agree!! I love the tiles, the ARE beautiful but I cringed when I heard that the floor in the China room would have tile flooring. It really is a recipe for heartache. Please do follow this advice it could make all the difference!!
