- It's time for Part 2 of our Winter Gift Special!!! We finally admit that Christmas is over and move away from the Christmas Tree. Nati has put aside many winter-themed gifts to keep us warm and snug in the cold! There were so many that we've had to split this video into two parts, the first was seen last week.
Today we open gifts in the Chambre Bonne Maman, which used to be the bedroom of the marquise, as part of our series of showing you different corners of the chateau...
In 'Cadeaux at the Chateau', all of the inhabitants of the Chateau de Lalande gather together to open beautiful gifts that people have sent from all over the world. All of the monetisation from these videos will be donated to a different charity each month. UA-cam earnings fluctuate wildly each month, as ad revenue changes throughout the year. Here are the charities that we've donated to so far:
July 2020:
British Heart Foundation UK (in memory of my father) €634
August 2020:
Alzheimer's Research UK (in memory of all of the residents of my parents' nursing homes) €350
September 2020:
Prostate Cancer Foundation (in memory of Selmar's father) €1255
October 2020:
Medecins sans Frontieres (chosen by my mother to support vaccinations in Africa) €942 (equivalent to 426 cholera vaccinations)
November & December 2020:
A Lalande Fashion Scholarship for a student at the Villioti Fashion Institute in South Africa €5500 (€4087 raised so far, the rest will be raised in January and February, and I will make up the difference myself if we fail to hit that target)
I used to show the gifts as part of 'The Chateau Diaries' episodes, but you're all so very generous that we have many gifts, and if we spent the episodes opening them, we wouldn't be able to show you other aspects of chateau life! So, for those of you who enjoy watching presents being opened, and as a way to thank those of you who were kind enough to send them, I've made this new channel. Every week we will film your beautiful gifts whilst enjoying afternoon tea or aperitif together.
It is very important to me that you know that we in no way expect anyone to send us gifts. I would like to go further than that and add that, if doing so will put you in any financial difficulty whatsoever, please, please do not send us anything. Knowing that you join us by watching 'The Chateau Diaries' gives us all an enormous boost. But for those of you who have sent these incredibly thoughtful gifts, I hope that seeing us open them gives you a fraction of the joy that you've given us, and that by monetising this channel for charity we can pass on that joy to others 💖💖💖

Stephanie us so diplomatic-if she observes someone who hasn’t had the chance to pick something she will always ask or include them after others have chosen their object😊 Point in reference asking Mandy or Salmar to choose something! This is what makes Stephanie such a unique person so super thoughtful and definitely not selfish. Stephanie is awesome at sharing the gifts. I have noticed that Philip is always ready to grab out of the packages what he likes, then suggest what the others should like. He took two of the neck warmers without a question to anyone else.
I agree with Mary about the growing of the channel organically. We appreciate the fact that you are not always saying “like” and “ subscribe” etc... every gift today was so thoughtful! Love the cutlery!!!!

Echidna is our version of a hedgehog, it is pronounced E-kid-na. They are a spiney anteaters and lay eggs. They are amazing wee creatures. Love from Melbourne, Australia xxx Doreen
I loved Phillip’s pronunciation of ‘Echidna’. I forget that what’s s so common for us here in Oz, is foreign to the rest of the world. Much like me trying to pronounce French words, even though I did three years of it in high school, many, many years ago lol.

I love how every single gift is viewed with utmost care and throughness! Flipping through the months of the year in a calendar was so nice ! Also Stephanie remembers every single gift and who sent it and when!

Beautiful handmade gifts ( Mandy's sweater with the perfect colors, looks great ) and all those socks knitted for everyone so thoughtful.
I love the scarves 💚 The bib/point at the front is a great idea because the little gap between a conventional scarf and the top button of your coat can let in a chill. This is a simple yet ingenious solution 👏

Oh My God! Phillip you have made my night - never heard an Echidna pronounced as a tasty snack before LOL They are amazing critters. If you love Hedgehogs you will go mad for these spiny critters! I recently stopped all the traffic on a busy road to let one cross. All the drivers stopped and waved as it sailed off to find a mate - they travel far to mate. What fun for me tonight to see TAS on the show - great calendar!! Fun!

My father, while stationed in Thailand, bought a set like this, made of brass. We did use them but not often as we had to clean it before we used it and after we used it. To much work for us kids. My sister took the set home after we used it one last time this past Thanksgiving🤠❤️
First thing I did was look to see how long it was & was so glad to see it was almost an hour! Enjoyed every minute & am looking forward to seeing you all again. It’s wonderful to see people sending gifts of warmth ❤️

Many years ago when I was a manufacturing goldsmith, we used a rolling steel shot tumbler to polish silver. It has about a gallon and a half tank which rolls on a platform with the stainless steel shot and a detergent and water slurry inside. Place your utensils inside, close lid (tightly), and let it roll. You can change the solution when you need to clean it. But then-shiny, clean, utensils! You can probably find one with jewelry tool supply house. Good luck!
