Ive been hoping for this video...a friend of my Dad always said "You ride a 2stroke on the back tire, and a 4stroke on the front tire" I always thought it was a good way of thinking of it. I feel like you have an advantage coming from racing the 2stroke at a high level, they are more difficult to ride and less forgiving to mistakes. Stoked for you man! Keep havin fun its where the speed is.

Well said. I just do bush riding and I can say out of 3 bikes( 16 yz 250, 23 te 300i and 24 CRF 450) I own the yz 250 was the wild one but a lot of fun. Te 300 is fun too and has a few mods. 450 is just too easy to ride especially in sand. It's like cheating lol.

Hey matty B awesome video as usual you are a animal on that bike. I just came from a yz250 2 smoker to a 24’ yz450f as well and I can relate to this video. I am a different rider on this new 450 it’s insane. I went from D class to C or maybe even B I feel like in 2-3 hours of ride time. Keep the awesome content up and if it makes you feel any better I heard MOST of the rod issues were mainly on the 2023 models from heat treat issues. 24’s we may be safe ! Either way at your skill level don’t blame you for upgrading. Have a great day Matty B hope to see you at Nelson Valley MX in science hill Kentucky some day maybe!

Hey Matt thanks for taking the time to put this together your insight means a lot. As a fellow blue crew brother I appreciate it. The last yz450 I had was a 2018. And as a vet rider I had a few scary moments lol. I went back to a 250 lol to stay healthy and I felt like the bike pushed so hard in the corner I couldn’t stay in a rut. So as of today I have two in the garage a 2024 yz250. 2 smoker. And a 2022 yz250 f. I do like them both for different reasons. But have wondered if going back to a 450 would be good at this point

Rods have been letting go to my understanding because of some messed up heat treating on the rods. Piston/rod combo is a must for durability I think at this point with how many people who ride hard that have had issues. I could be wrong about why but that’s the info I recieved from the machine shop.
As long as you don’t overfill the bike it won’t be an issue. I overfilled mine once 😂😂😂😂 it was comical.
Put triple clamps on it and leave the engine mounts. My clamps made a massive difference and I’m running 22mm offset still. Luxon. Way more front end forgiveness at the limit of traction.
Pumped your lovin it. I got some small issues too but they are nit picking issues for sure. Congrats dude. 🎉

4-stroke reliability. Can’t over emphasize that. Cleaning the air filter every ride and new oil every other ride go a long ways in keeping a bike fresh. Couldn’t imagine taking a bike out with a dirty air filter.

So you've done suspension, inner hinson clutch hub (need fibers/plates), a GET ecu and a chain&sprocket.
Not bad for 20 hours honestly.
My opinion is that Rotella is bad on clutches, doesnt hold up with the heat. I reccomend a better oil. As bougie as it is, been running moterex in my 23 ktm 450 and im a decent 25+A guy, stock clutch is strong at 50 hours still.

I recently bought the FCP engine mounts for my 24. Was a little skeptical on them and how much of a difference they would make, but my first ride with them I definitely felt they did everything they advertised. The bike felt more planted, much better lean angle traction coming into corners (especially on the front), as well as felt more plush over braking/acceleration bumps. Would definitely recommend.

My bursitis in my shoulder can concur with you. I run the standard map. I feel it runs best that way for me but that’s because I’m an engine guy and it just doesn’t sound right on the other tuning options the stock ecu provides. The stock tune wears me out though without a doubt which is unacceptable to me from a racing standpoint. I can’t get the tune I want out of it with the stock ecu. I need a vortex. So I can get aggressive with my right hand again. Your right it’s a 3rd gear everywhere if your on stock map. Hearing helps some but it’s fucking animalistic stock.
I am running an fmf slip on which has helped the aggressive hit and gearing but you need a get/vortex…. somethin.
