  • How do you safely transfer money internationally? Kalie from ExpatsEverywhere sits down with Ben from Spartan FX to discuss how to do this. They talk about the problems that could arise and how you can avoid them. Josh and Kalie use Spartan FX personally which was really important for the purchase of the property they are renovating in Porto, Portugal. You can follow the progress on that full renovation on our other channel called Let's Get Building with Josh and Kalie.
    If you would like to be introduced to Spartan FX, you can email Kalie at info@expatseverywhere.com

    * ABOUT US *
    Josh and Kalie left the US for a life abroad in 2009 and haven't looked back. They have lived in Spain, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and are currently in Portugal. Yes, they realize they only moved to countries starting with the letter "S" until they spoiled that streak with their move to Portugal. Follow ExpatsEverywhere as we aim to get information to you through expat interviews, city breakdowns, expat life, travel, vlogs, and more.
    * VISAS FOR PORTUGAL *
    We have two courses to help DIY the D7 visa and the remote worker visa for Portugal. The courses include step-by-step videos, checklists, resources, recommendations, discounts, and more. They break down the timeline and when and how to do things, plus give action items to keep you on task but not be overwhelmed. Check them out here: D7: expatseverywhere.thinkific.com & Remote Worker: expatseverywhere.thinkific.co...

    This is great advice for anyone considering moving significant amounts of money to Portugal!
    Fun fact: When I sold my parents’ house to an American couple, they got into all sorts of transfer issues they weren’t expecting, and it scared the heck out of them! The culprit was (brace yourselves)… Wells Fargo! 😄

      Thank you, Paulo! And thank you for sharing that. Last March we were in the US and we closed our Wells Fargo account because we were having so many banking issues. - Josh & Kalie

    Great topic choice! It's always dreadful to have your money stuck midway a transfer, usually when the amount is high enough to scare us "to death" 😬
    Then we're attacked with tons of questions about how we got the resources, what we're using them for etc. Having to fly to unlock an account is also awful. I almost had to fly to Canada once, thankfully I managed to fix things but not without working for a month communicating with different people. One simple mistake when answering a tricky question over the phone might flag you to be required to show up in person at a branch to confirm you're "really yourself".

      Thank you very much. We hope more people get to see this kind of information because it can save a lot of hassle, headaches and heartaches when we know what's going on with our money.
      We completely understand your feelings. You're right.
      We had a friend in Singapore locked out of his US account for a year because he needed to fly back to the U.S. to deal with something in branch. - Josh & Kalie

    My questions are (1) does the deposit at SpartanFX accrue interest? (2) is SpartanFX insured? (Like in the U.S., the FDIC or NCUA insures the amount on deposit)

      Have you emailed Ben or reached out to Spartan FX? It's better if you speak with them. We don't represent them so it's better for the answers to come from them. We hope you understand. - Josh & Kalie

    A lot more advertisement content than quality content those days. Beware!

      Which days are you talking about? This isn't a paid video but this is the service we used when we transferred money from the US to Portugal to buy our house. We started to notice a pattern with money transfer problems and decided to sit down with Ben from Spartan FX to discuss it. - Josh & Kalie
